Refreshing to have reviews that are relevant to the vast majority of us... rather than another lounge heavy flat bed moan that the wine is too warm.. 😮😅 / thanks for posting

Thanks for that, and thanks for watching. We try to be objective and realistic in our reviews and comments. Like we say at the start, we are just two ordinary people and we look at everything from that point of view. And of course it's all paid for by us, no freebies where we are pressured to give a glowing review in return...

Always fly BA, sometimes Code share with JAL .. JAL is better service, overall when it comes to economy seats they are all pretty much the same. I will be flying London- Tokyo in July Premium Economy so lets see what that's like!

I've flown a lot of airlines in my time (Not JAL unfortunately) and they all have their little pro's and cons, but BA doesn't do a bad job as far as I'm concerned. I just wish they would dump a couple of their older planes and keep the standards up. Safe travels.

Sitting upright for hours may be okay for some people but not all. For people with back or other issues, being able to recline is a necessity. I don’t understand why people think that what works for them, works for everyone. It’s the airline’s fault if the seat is in your face. Complain to the airlines or fly a different one. I can’t sit in a seat that does not recline unless its a very short flight. Please think about this before being annoyed at others for reclining their seats.

Or maybe don't fly long haul? I have back issues, and Sue has serious mobility issues and needs that extra space in front of her in order just to be able to move around, but I guess everyone's own needs comes before others right? You don't think of checking or asking if its going to cause an issue to the person behind you because your needs overrides everyone elses right? I agree the airline is at fault. But you know, flying a different one in the same class isnt the solution, the seat pitch is just the same. I fly premium when i can afford it to avoid the problem. Maybe you could be more considerate of others and fly business and get a lay down bed to help your back out, instead of cramping up the person behind you? Hmmm it works both ways i'm afraid. But I do agree, I like the airlines that have locked their seats in the upright position, everyone then gets the space that they actually paid for.

@@robandsue Hi, I know I sounded a bit snappy and should not have. So here it is without the snark: Some airlines think that jamming sets closer and closer together and charging for early boarding is a good idea. It’s not on long-haul and large capacity planes. I don’t have business class pockets, and even premium economy is a splurge. If my seat reclines, I will recline it when I need to and I honestly don’t think that I must ask permission of the person behind me. However, if the person behind me needed me to keep my seat upright for a short while, and asked me to do so, I would accommodate them for a short while. The person behind me may feel that I am responsible for their comfort, but I am not. They must do what they must do for themselves. That may mean flying on planes without reclining seats or paying extra or asking the airlines for the first row. I need a reclining seat and I know that I do so I ask the airlines to make sure that the seat they put me in reclines. A few times I have been given seats that don’t recline and I’ve been very unhappy about it. I know that you think I should check to see if reclining my seat is going to cause a problem for the person behind me but if it does cause them a problem, yet causes me a problem to not recline, who should prevail? I obtained the seat that I needed (one that reclines, hopefully) because I am responsible to take care of my needs. If I am feeling up for it, I could try to work out a compromise but I strongly feel that people who feel that others are at fault for reclining and that airplanes should have seats that don’t recline, are trying to make others responsible for their needs, without regards to the needs of others. I think what I most object to is people feeling that people who recline without permission are simply being selfish and indulging in a luxury. For many, it’s a necessity. The best solution is for airlines to give people enough space so that anyone can recline without it being a problem for the person behind them. That would keep everyone happy. 😊

Hi - I like compromise. I can live with someone reclining their seat for part of the trip. But the people I referred to in the video did it from seat belts off to seat belts on for the whole 10 hours. They even grumbled when the meals were served and I asked the attendant to get them to put their seats up so i could get my tray table down and eat my meal - ive even had to forego my meal where they seat in front refused to sit up. Sometimes its medical needs, but sometimes its just plain indifference. I appreciate that some may have medical needs that require them to recline, like yourself, but I dont believe it is the majority and many just want a comfortable sleep which of course is their right. And the argument always is, well you can recline yours too. But actually I get back ache from sitting in a reclined position and sue struggles to get back up from a reclined position. And she definitely can't extracate herself from her seat when the front seat is reclined. It traps her in the seat. Not great when you suddenly need the bathroom and you have to call an attendant to have the guy in front woken up so he can let you out. I once even asked the attendant if we could move because of it. But you hit the nail on the head when you said, who prevails. Exactly. It's a personal choice. The whole point of the video was, I personally can't stand the seat down reclined because im clostrophobic and you relieving yourself of your ailment automatically increases my discomfort. So to counter this we aim for the front row seats and part of my video explained how we do this - so yes, we do actually take steps to secure our own comfort. And like you said, you can withstand it for short spells, so maybe you could consider popping it back up every now and again. dont forget, if the person behind is reclined too, there's really no issue is ther?. Does the person in front of you always recline? If not, maybe there could be a seat swap if you have someone behind who cant recline for some reason. There's lots of ways to compromise, but people often don't ask, they just do. As is their right. And I accept that and endure it often. But it doesn't mean I have to be happy about it. All i'm doing is asking people to be a little considerate at times. As for the airlines making more room? You and I both know that will never happen. So I will just continue to use my methods to get bulkhead seats or upgrade to premium whenever my own pockets allow. Which was the whole point of the video. I guess we may never agree because we have polar opposite medical needs, and we both want to be comfortable for the duration of the flight. Such is life. Thanks for watching the video anyway, I hope it wasnt ALL annoying :). Best wishes and safe travels.

@@robandsue Thanks for the reply. Yes, I did enjoy your video and I feel it was also good to have this discussion. Yes, I have been on a few flights with the TV screen nearly smashed in my face, so I know how that feels but didn’t realize that some people could be trapped. It only happens with some airlines configurations. I am not sure that “it will never happen” that airlines will not change things in the future. With more angry passengers, behaving in terrible and dangerous ways, things may eventually change. I think we need to keep raising the issue. Keep asking corporate to make a change and ask for a few more inches to keep everyone happy. Angry and dangerous passengers are costly. Thanks for making the video. I am normally an economy-class flier, who until recently, never paid extra for seats but if I find it affordable on long haul, I now will do so. When I can’t, I try to sit in the back. I have flown Delta Comfort Plus once when an intermittent problem flared up (partner also has a problem) and the airlines gave us the seats. It was very comfortable. Air France comfort plus was for me, as good as first class. I have only ever been bumped up to first class one time, on a very short flight so I have never experienced real first class. The bump up was due to my partner and I being the last to board. We were in no hurry to rush on with crowd and were enjoying a few more moments of standing. Well as we were about to board, we were told that they ran out of seats and would seat us in first class instead. No bed type seats but amazing food and and service and all the space we needed for two hours. I have a BA flight coming up and I am not expecting it to match the AirFrance experience. I hope that the service is good. Not all flight attendants seem to understand that sometimes the bell rings due to a medical emergency, which has happened to me before. I have been on flights where no one ever answered my bell ring. Some airlines do service well and others don’t. I have been avoiding BA for the past several years (the Heathrow experience in particular, as I can’t remember the service) but this time was lured back due to special circumstances. I plan to bring food and entertainment (even on comfort plus) because on my last economy long-haul flights, the food situation was terrible and the entertainment hadn’t changed in two years. At least with my backup food, and entertainment, I can make sure that those needs are met so I will pack a sandwich that I can save for arrival if not needed, along with a few snacks that I like. Happy flying Rob.

Most of my trips are on Virgin between Miami (home) and LHR (old home) in Premium. For me, the extra cost is worth it for a long flight. The crew have always been friendly and professional. I generally try and get the last row (window seat) so that nobody is behind me. I don’t have to worry about upsetting anyone when I recline the seat.
@robandsue
@robandsue 8 месяцев назад
That's interesting. Many of the airlines say the back rows don't recline. Doesn't solve my problem, I'm the opposite. Never recline so i prefer the front row with no one in front of me. Thanks for your comments. And for watching.

I absolutely agree about paying the upgrade by the way - if you can afford it, always go premium economy.

Thanks for the informative video. Can I ask, what was the aircraft where you ad the disappointing service? (small screens and food)
@robandsue
@robandsue Год назад
It was a 777-200, but clearly one of their early additions and definitely showing a lot of wear and an antiquated ICE. The newer plane was just labelled 777. But that doesn't account for the food quality - that was directly down to the catering out of Vegas. Shockingly poor.

@@robandsue Looked like one of the older aircraft and seat structures. The food is another thing. It should be up to a standard. One thing I personally find, with all airlines, the food offerings on the return from the US are not the greatest.

@@irltdgraphics yeah i agree, i used to fly to the USA frequently years ago (in the days of TWA and PanAm) and the food was always better outbound.
