Bought one of these for when I did Killimanjaro a couple of years ago. It performed really well and I still use it now! What I really like is that it has a flat bottom to it so it not a strict mummy type shape and allows you loads of room for your feet and to sleep more naturally. Love it.
That looks like a real cozy, well designed nest. What a generous length 👍 Love that the outer is not stitched. Army always sturdy zips, makes such a difference. Thanks for sharing 😘
I went for this based on your review on this and the old artic one. I'm also a side sleeper. I saw someone else suggest putting your whole head outside the bag to stop condensation and also allows more movement
Yes it all comes down to temperature. Head out and the heat is trapped inside around your body. Cold and windy, keep your head in. I don't find condensation a problem with my head inside though. How are you finding the bag in general?
Slept in my tent in my medium (long) bag in snow last year... started off wearing thermal top+bottoms, socks, hat, neck scarf etc... wasn't long before I was taking off most of those layers, slept in thermal top+boxers inside the bag. Totally recommend these!!
@@jim-bob-outdoors totally agree!! Problem is whilst it was great in my Dutch sabre backpack 100litres + 2x10l pouches..(clearly overloaded!), I've just got myself a karrimor sabre 45... and I'm trying to work out what to leave behind 🤣 to try and pack small...
🤣👍 longest sleeping bag I ever saw🙀. It must be a struggle for you tall buggers!! Good bag for the money, just better designed than the arctic bag- that's a reflection of a decade passing & designs moving on. Pertex outer is nice👍, love the zips on the H.M. Forces bags😍. Good review JB.
Gota love the army surplus,i have the Dutch army cold weather bag and a jungle bag, never used the two together yet,and im in north east scotland.good video Alan.looking forward to your camps using it man.cheers for sharing.all the best.👍
These are brilliant bags especially with the jungle or light bag I washed my medium bag what a big mistake it ended up being a bag full of water as the outer shell keeps the water in so I highly recommend do not wash the medium weight bag
Looks like a decent bag! I've had a few issues with my artic bag when I used it last, just couldn't get comfortable in it 🙃 Something like this could be a good alternative 👍
Looks very similar uncompressed size to the softie 9, weight is similar as I also use a liner and the expander panel. I hardly ever ever wash my bags, just wait for a bright Sunny windy day hang it out and let mother nature deal with it. Liners do of course get washed. Also a big fan of synthetic and no stitch thru pertex outer. We're very much on the same page. You've convinced me, I might see if I can find a supergrade. 👍🏼
@@jim-bob-outdoors I did post another comment containing a link to one I had found for you too just cast an eye over to see if it was the right one, but it appears the RU-vid Gods have sent that comment into the abyss
@@AggyGoesOutdoors I know, its a pain. I get the notification but the comment dont show. It happens to about one in ten comments. Hope people dont think I am ignoring them. 😒
@@jim-bob-outdoors well I took the plunge £25 from "forces uniform and kit" RU-vid can be a bit of a backwards place, they want maximum user engagement on all these videos but only if we pretend there's nothing else on the internet outside of RU-vid 🤦🏻♂️
I've just bought one of these (despite owning a Carinthia Survival One) as they are such good value. I paid £50 for a brand new one with tags and £30 for a brand new jungle bag with a bug net. I'm looking forward to winter camping with these bags instead of the down bag I used last year - especially as I'm getting more into tarp woodland camping. I also purchased a supergrade Dutch Army M80 bivi recently which has a central zip. Should work well together either on the ground or in a hammock. The Dutch Army M90 is another central zip bivi too.
May I ask from where you were able to get a brand new one? Im looking to buy one, but I can only find them on surplus sites and I have some worries about their condition and the amount of times they've been washed.
I used the jungle bag all the summer months, plenty of room and comfortable, the built in bug net is a real bonus up here in Scotland, keeps the midges out. Cheers
You can get a brand new in the pack un issued with liner around £65 delivered I think from flea bay. My buffalo belay jacked is like an unstitched pertex and that's way too toasty with the additional pile liner.
I'm no expert but I think that the Light Weight Bag (part of the modular system alongside the Medium Weight Bag and the Liner) is different from the Jungle Bag? I think the Jungle Bag is even lighter than the Light Weight Bag and is not part of the modular system but is just a stand alone item. Anyone know for sure?
Nice review, Being the sensible practical chap that you are; do you think down bags (or jackets) have a place anywhere? I'm fully on team synthetic to be honest, bags and jackets, I'm kind of baffled (no pun intended) why down bags are even still a thing when they are essentially useless once damp, the kind of damp that you get in a tent or bivi 🤦🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️😂 Approaching chocolate tea pot levels of usefulness
I think down has its place. Better insulation in the right conditions and for weight and pack size takes some beating. For most UK conditions, I would use synthetic to be honest. Only thing with down I have is my Eurohike summer bag. I really like it, but would not use it if the is a chance of it being a bit damp out. 👍
@@jim-bob-outdoors Agreed, down is better insulation, but in a much narrower range of environments.. And once compromised a real struggle to dry out. I think the thing I can't get my head around is the price disparity, between down and synthetic... one is cheap and works in all conditions... one is expensive and works in limited conditions. 🙄👍
Hi Jim Bob. I used mine up on Dartmoor a couple of weeks ago. Great bag. Just wondering if it’s the same insulation in it,as the Carinthia Defence. 4/6? Stay well
@@jim-bob-outdoors Yeah. I like mine too. Was wondering about the difference between a brand new one,and one that’s been washed 20 times. New one has to be better?
Thanks for the review. I just bought one of these on its own, without the inner lightweight bag, for 3 season use in the UK. But, looking at the label, it says: "the lightweight bag MUST be placed inside the medium weight bag to ensure the free flow of condensation away from the body" Have you ever had any problems with condensation using the medium weight bag alone?
The medium is designed to be used on its own for most of the year. You only add the lightweight (jungle bag) in mid winter. I have used the medium on its own down just below zero and its fine. Its one of my favourite bags. When they say it must be used inside the medium bag, that's just to stop people from putting it on the outside. Hope that makes sense.
You would be ok with the medium but it depends on how much room you like. I am 6' and about 85kg. I like the large because it has a bit of extra shoulder room as well as being longer. Also if its really cold I can wriggle down inside it. 😁
@@jim-bob-outdoors many thanks mate. I was wondering weather to get the Arctic bag but I think the complete system would be about the same in temperating. Let's see what transpires. Fab video many thanks Jim-Bob. Fab video x
Greetings. My son has just bought me this sleeping system for wild camping. I was using a pattern 58 before,it was quite bulky, but really warm. Is this system lighter? I too am in the SW of England. Your right,it dosnt get down to the temps that the system is made for,but you never know… Regards
Hello, i bought one a brend new, from warehouse storage they sayd, but it's not even a little cold in Caucasus now, so i interested, did you tested it in cold weather? What is the limit of comfortable temperature for this bag in your experience
Well i have good "self inflating" sleeping mat for winter, and if it freezed around, i'm going to use a regular summer mat under it. And a US polartec uderwear "ecwcs level 2"
@@jim-bob-outdoors Just interested does it coast a 130$ that i payed. Here we have a little bit different prices than you. Does it work as well in mountains in -10°C or -15°C? And what better to use it in tent or in hammock Thank u for quick answers and 🖐🏻 from North Caucasus highlander
@@adamandy384 They are dirt cheap here in the UK. £25-£45. The army rates it as -15C limit. That is with army gear on though. If its colder they add the light Jungle bag inside it to take it down to -20C. All depends on the gear you are using. In my location it is very rare to get below -5C. Have used it on the ground and in a hammock (with a underblanket) without a problem.
