as with other freedoms, when health care (freedom) is rationed by the government and not questioned , sheeple get/accept what they are doled out by big brother, having options for a BETTER treatment, longer life, better quality of life, one with fewer side effects, less interactions, etc. is not weird. Its like food -you can eat gruel-or something that is better-both go in your body. Knowledge is power. Let me break it down so that at least half will understand--its like women's makeup/perfume. Black Friday is not named for the violence, which is often exaggerated by the media in order to get ratings. Black Friday is named as such because on the day after Thanksgiving, people are looking for deals for Christmas gifts, stores offer those deals knowing their customers are going to be out in full force doing some major shopping, and by sheer volume of sales on that day, they make so much money that their sales put them "in the black" financially. This means that they make enough on this day to offset the cost of doing business (rent, taxes, inventory, wages, etc.) and put them in a positive income for the remainder of the year.

An English friend visited me once, and he had never seen a crockpot. I put a roast in my crockpot one morning about 11, and he said it wouldn't be ready in time for lunch. When I told him it was for dinner, he had a fit! "It will be shoe leather by then!" he said. I told him that a crockpot cooks low and slow, so the meat comes out really tender. I also used beer instead of water, and beer is a natural meat tenderizer. It adds flavor, too. My friend didn't believe a word of it. He complained all day that I was ruining that beautiful roast, that it smelled wonderful but we wouldn't be able to eat it, on and on for hours. Then dinner time arrived, and I went to the kitchen to dip up dinner. My friend came to watch. (I think he wanted to criticize my cooking some more.) I stuck a fork in the roast, started to lift it, and the roast broke in half. I tried to pick up a half, and that broke, too. My friend said, "I've never seen a roast do that!" I pulled a piece of meat off with my fingers and gave it to him. He ate it and said, "If this were any more tender, I could suck it through a straw!" Americans love crockpots. You can put a chicken, roast or whatever you want in your crockpot in the morning, and when you get home from work, dinner's ready.

The story of the Red Solo Cup is fascinating. It’s a very unusual company, led by a great character who treated the employees with kindness and respect, paid for college educations and listened to their suggestions for ways to improve the company. One employee always wanted to be an engineer, the company paid for him to get his engineering degree, and he went on yom invent the process that makes the red solo cup unique: it’s actually two layers of plastic, with white on the inside. But it isn’t made of two cups one inside the other. The two layers are formed simultaneously, providing a stronger cup that is light but very durable. Some people wash them and use them over and over. After they’re no longer used for drinking they’re still good for starting seeds before planting.

@bradhayworth2926
@bradhayworth2926 2 года назад
Others may have said this, but maybe I can consolidate. Historically, ledger books in America used black ink to signify a positive cash flow, and red ink meant a negative cash flow. Black Friday was so named because it signified the day businesses finally were "in the black", meaning they finally reached a positive cash flow after 11 months of being in the "red". Thus, the Friday following Thanksgiving (always a Thursday in November and always a big shopping day) is known as Black Friday.
@cthulhusmom
@cthulhusmom 2 года назад
I'm really confused why they would even have Black Friday in other countries... they don't have Thanksgiving, so why Black Friday? The tradition of shopping on Black Friday started because people are off on Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas season is officially started, and lots of people are with their family and go together. I'm assuming other countries that celebrate Christmas don't all put up their lights and start their shopping on the same day, do they?

This video was wrong about the reason for the name "Black Friday." It is black because stores get out of the "red ink" into the black (meaning making a profit) in the last month of the year! Crazy but true. The profit for retail is mostly from Thanksgiving to Christmas, starting with sales on Black Friday that are considered "hooks" to get people into stores to shop.

@lookoutforchris
@lookoutforchris Год назад
That is not American cheese, and in fact is not even cheese. American cheese has been made since the 1700s. All cheese is processed. American cheese is a blend of Cheddar and Colby with anatto added for color and taste. It is yellow/orange, mild, and melts well. You can buy it at any good grocer or deli. What you’re referring to is a Kraft single, and it is not legally cheese and is sold as a “cheese product.” Don’t buy or eat that trash and try some actual American cheese some time. America makes many other types of domestic cheese, including world award winners, that are not the traditional yellow/orange American cheese. Just like the Swiss have other cheeses besides “Swiss Cheese.”

The term Black Friday was coined for stores moving from operating in the red(at a loss) to the black as the day after Thanksgiving traditionally starts the holiday shopping season. I'm not sure how much worse ground up potato or carrot skins and onion peels is than a #2. It all goes down the same pipe. Not to be gross but corn kernels through a garbage disposal are going to be more processed than going through your digestive system.
@Anon54387

One of the things I've noticed when visiting Scotland, England, France, and Italy was the general lack of handrails on staircases. It ultimately became a running joke with us, "Watch out on the stairs, there are no American lawyers over here." In fact, when renting a home in Tuscany, the staircases between the floors were half the width of the American standard and had no railings. Spray cheese scares many of us, as well. "American" cheese just means a blend of cheddar with other cheeses. Black Friday: For retail corporations, it's supposedly the day when they finally turn a profit. For workers, it's the day they dread above all others, even though the tales of violence are vastly exaggerated; it tends to be full of frustrated, impatient, angry customers. Free refills are a thing because sodas are incredibly inexpensive to produce; the most expensive element of the drink is the cup itself. It also helps to make the restaurant look "generous." You'd have to have at least half a dozen refills in the same cup for them to lose money, though this may vary by venue.

American cheese has an extreme amount of oil added to it. That's what makes it so soft and melt the way it does. They have taken an unhealthy unnecessary food and made it even worse. It is between 80 and 90% free oil that has been extracted with solvents and Heat. It is a Class 1 carcinogenic. It is not just a mixture of coagulated cows milk created by putting the stomach enzymes of their babies that should have been drinking it. It's been made into a food product. A disgusting thing to start and then made into a more disgusting thing.

When I visited Florida, it was blazing hot, and I found it wonderful that soft drinks and iced tea not only had free refills during your meal, the cup sizes were huge. This is encouraged by the state government because the heat dehydrates you ridiculously quickly. So they encourage you to drink a lot of non alcoholic beverages to stay hydrated. Beats me how they reconcile that tea and some soft drinks contain caffeine, a diuretic. Drink even more, I guess. While I was installing a computer system for a soft drink bottler, they told me about the profit of the stuff they made. Especially restaurants that use what's called premix soda. It comes in fairly large kegs, and it's the complete drink. Just refrigerate the keg, pressurize it, and soda comes out. You don't supply the water. That runs out very quickly, which makes it staggeringly profitable. Postmix is nearly as profitable, because they don't have to collect, wash, and sanitize the kegs. Instead, the dispenser mixes the CO2 and the water at that end, so the drink is delivered as a concentrated syrup in a large, tough plastic bag inside a box, that gives it a fixed shape and makes it easier to carry and put in the dispenser. Since they don't have to collect and process kegs, that's cheaper, but it levels off because the restaurant doesn't have to order product as often.
@EricTheKei
@EricTheKei 2 года назад
@@JennyEverywhere I used to work in a small restaurant (~20 years ago) that got their sodas via the "Bag-in-box" system -- i.e., a sturdy plastic bag full of soda "syrup" inside a thick cardboard box; hence, no keg to wash. All of the CO2 and water mixing was done at the restaurant. Our net cost per ~20oz glass of soda was approximately 6 cents each. This included the fountain machine lease, CO2, water, ice, labor cost of washing the glass, the server's pay, etc. -- everything. They charged $1.50 for a glass of Coke (with free refills).

One of the people involved in developing it had a lifetime supply on demand for decades and actually complained to the company about the "new amd improved" recipe that is mostly fillers now. The spray cheese from the 70's to early 2000's was apparently delicious as it was 90%+ cheese and the rest were emulsifiers but now? Actually, there are two countries where direct-to-consumer prescription medication advertisements are legal, not just the USA. The other is New Zealand. Just thought I'd share. I wish they'd change that in both countries, though. Pharmaceuticals shouldn't be such a capitalistic, money making business - it should be about helping people when medication is needed, and that decision should be between you and your medical team, not based on what an ad told you to ask for. Also, please do not put bones down a garbage disposal haha. It uses blades, not an incinerator, and anything as hard as bones will absolutely break your disposal. Also garbage disposals, while convenient, they're dangerous, especially if they something gets stuck - like a piece of silverware - and someone sticks their hand down it to unclog it. Considering the sharp blades, injuries do occur.

In the USA, watchdogs say that advertising accounts for SEVENTY PERCENT of the price for prescription drugs. Of course, pharma companies have often 'advertised' to physicians through free samples, 'rubber chicken' luncheons, traveling sales-persons, etc. The TV ads only add to the cost.

One thing about the free refills is our drinks are the drinks are priced high but typically cost pennies. Drinks are a big money maker for restaurants. Don't remember what I paid in Germany, but in Russia a soda was the equivalent of $1 without refills while a drink here in the US will run you $3 typically and come with free refills. There are some restaurants (typically smaller hipster/fusion/ethnic places) that sell soda by the can/bottle and still charge $2-3/each. That's where it can get really expensive to drink.

The comment that food disposals are ‘banned’ throughout parts of the world because it’s ‘bad’ is ridiculous. The scraps are liquified. Where do people think the ‘stuff’ that is flushed down toilets go? In sewer systems just like water that goes down the sink, of course.
@mef2101

In most US cities, the municipal waste water treatment plants effectively clean and treat sewage before it is returning to waterways. The water discharged from a sewage plant is often cleaner than the water initially drawn in. So garbage disposers add no more strain on the environment than anything else. Now if other countries' waste water treatment is poor or non existent, then adding food scraps to raw untreated sewage might be a problem.

Up until about ten years ago, I never realized how frequently I saw the American flag on a day-to-day basis until a foreign RU-vidr remarked about how the flag is flown EVERYWHERE. The entrances to schools and government buildings will be marked with an American flag flying, and it is always a welcomed symbol pretty much anywhere else, including the back of fire engines, in front of houses, or in a park. Sometimes when I'm driving around, I'll count how many flags I see, just as a way to keep my mind occupied. What many Americans don't realize is that there are laws governing (but not really enforced) about how to display the flag: it's not supposed to be tattered if on display, the stars and stripes aren't supposed to be worn, and it should never touch the ground. Also, I have a personal, kind of funny, story about the flag: My father was a military veteran and was married to my mother for 42 years before he died. For their 30th wedding anniversary, my sisters and I sent them on a trip to our nation's capitol. It wasn't until my mother died in 2018 that we found a giant US flag in her belongings. It is was giant, as in at least twice the size of the front door to your house. There was a note with the flag that it had flown on September 23, 1999, at the Capitol Building [which houses our federal legislature], and that our state representative had dedicated the flag to be flown that day as a favor to my dad. When we found the flag and the note, it seemed random, but when we pieced together that this was the flag that was flown at the Capitol Building while my parents were there for their anniversary, it brought a special meaning. Coincidentally, the date it was flown also happened to be one of my sister's birthdays (my parent's anniversary was 9/20), and at the time, she was living in Washington, D.C., so for a day or two before we actually figured out the meaning, we were puzzled about what my sister had done to prompt my dad to request that the flag be flown on her birthday. 😄

There is a full time congressional program to fly flags over the capitol to be given to constituents. There is a team of people who raise a flag, salute it, lower and repack it. Then they repeat this for up to several hours until there are enough to fill the orders for the week. The extras are kept in storage until requested by a Congress person. This is not meant to diminish the good feeling of receiving an actual flag flown over the Capitol. It really demonstrates the honor and reverence felt by Americans for our flag that this had become such an important ritual to be shared with the many people who connect with this powerful symbol of freedom.

Red solo cups are used at cookouts and picnics but they’re most well known for being used at college keg parties. The hosts, such as roommates in a fraternity house will buy a keg or kegs of beer then charge partygoers a fee for a red cup to drink it from to make their money back on purchasing the beer. This is why the red solo cup is associated with binge drinking and drinking games.

The costliest thing in a soda drink is the cup, followed far behind by the ice and lastly the drink. So as long the refill is in the same cup, it costs almost nothing to the restaurant. The cost of the soda drink to the restaurant is probably 15 cents total. Cup, straw, ice and soda. They charge $1.99 for the whole thing. The soda itself probably 5 cents. American cheese is a type of "cheese". It also is faux cheese. That is sold in squares, to go on sandwiches. Just to be clear, I am not downgrading spray cheese or American cheese. There are just a lot of food products in America, that are not natural. Another cheese product, velveta. For drinks for decades if not a century there have been drinks mimiking juice. Tang, Kool Aid, etc. Now there are drinks that have nothing natural in them. Artificial flavors and sweetners are quite common. They are made in chemical labratories not farms. In the U.S., water usually goes to a sewage plant for processing instead of being dumped in a river, so chopping up food products that would normally get sucked down into the sink actually helps make sure the pipes don't get plugged. And most people dump their food waste into the trash can or "bin" instead of down the sink. The only thing that goes into the garbage disposal are the small bits of food that are still on the dishes when you wash them in the sink. Some places actually require garbage disposals so you don't clog up the pipes or sewage plant.
