laser sights suck. They're always only accurate out to the yards you make them accurate because the path of the laser sight hypotenuse has to intersect with the line formed by the path of the bullet at precisely where the target is located or else the laser sight will be inaccurate. Training with tritium night sights is always best. I also think optics are not tactically advantageous in comparison to good old fashioned tritium or iron sights and what this illustrates is that all the flashy gizmos and cosmetics of so-called "assault rifles" amount to very little. In a real-life self-defense situation, basics are best.

@@marksmith4892 Couldnt be more wrong. I dont know anyone who would put a visible laser on their gun today but the same logic applies to optics and iron sights. You zero for one range and if its closer or farther you have to adjust your aim point to compensate or dial it into the optic. Optics, night vision, IR, or thermal offer such a huge advantage that if you were trying to fight in a modern war and only had irons you would be dead pretty quick.

@@Nick-sx6jm There is a concept known as point blank range where you zero the sights (or optics) at a distance that will cover a longer range of distance. In the Army the M16 is zeroed at 25 meters, and that point of aim is good out to 300 meters. The bullet's flight path will rise and fall within that distance, but all your shots will fall within a hit box the size of a dinner plate. You're not shooting at a pin point or bulls eye. You're shooting at a larger hit zone. Same applies with a visible laser on a handgun. At the distance you are going to aim that laser, an impact slightly higher or lower is well within the hit zone. A set of irons sights can hit a man-sized target out to 500 meters. With a 25-300 meter zero you place the front sight post on the head of the target, and the shot will impact around the midriff. Optics make aiming easier because you don't have to align two points to be on target. A red dot or crosshair can be set at a "point blank" range to hit a target by merely pointing at it.

Never understood why gun owners use the "AR-15 fires a tiny bullet" as some form of reasoning as to why it's not "scary." The 5.56mm has considerable jules behind it due to velocity, sures it's a 22 caliber round, but that round is going almost 3K feet per second. It's more than adequate in its ability to kill humans, as I've personally done in Iraq and Afghanistan during my 10 year long military career as a Naval EOD tech. Regardless, I would absolutely in a pinch feel confident in it's ability to take down most game in America up to black bears with a decent 75gr soft point ammunition. I also believe it should ALWAYS remain plentiful in supply, and weapons that use it be easily and legally obtained without restrictions.

@@CollinKillian Because in America we can own a whole host of guns, thus we know that the AR15 does fire a tiny bullet - I own a .22 WMR and it fires 50 grain, so yeah, 55 grain .223 is tiny. Yes, the bullet does have a lot of power when you combine weight and velocity, but the problem is that most of that power is lost as it lasers through a target as we saw in Somalia during CQC. That's why the military adopted the 1911 in .45 - because a slower, heavier bullet which stayed in the target and transferred ALL of its energy was superior. Yes, .223 can kill humans - so can .22 long, .22 short and a ten stroke .177 pellet gun, in fact, for the longest time the .22 long fired almost entirely from revolvers (so-called Saturday night specials with 2-3 inch barrels) was responsible for more murders than all other calibers put together, as such, killing a human isn't all that high a bar for the .223 to clear. Kudos for knowing that there's more than just 55 grain ball and 62 grain green tip, but you're failing to mention that in order for a 75 grain round to be effective that it needs a 1:7 twist and ideally, an 18 or 20 inch barrel. Most ARs are cheap ones with 16 inch barrels and 1:9, never mind the low speed, high drag types who buy the AR pistols with 10 inch and shorter barrels, slap on a brace and then wonder why their "SBR" is keyholing past 50 yards and has a muzzle flash the size of a soccer ball - while those guns can fire the heavier grain bullets, they won't impart enough spin to achieve the accuracy/velocity necessary for them to be effective. So while my father and other men from his generation - all born in the 30s/40s - regularly talked about harvesting deer with .22 long and WMR, that no more makes those not-small rounds than the military adopting the .223 makes it anything but a varmint round. And to answer the question as to why the military adopted the AR platform in .223, it's because at the time the philosophy was quantity over quality of fire - get a low recoil rifle which had good range and shot straight and had light ammo so you could just give the soldiers lots of ammo and let them rock and roll as it was Vietnam and they had conscripts whom they didn't have time to teach how to properly shoot. With the concept of a draft appearing to be long gone, the military is abandoning the 5.56 for 6.8 and adding good optics to every rifle so as to do away with spray and pray and go back to accuracy of fire. So while I definitely wouldn't want to be shot by an AR, given the choice between that and a .308, 30-30 or 30-06, I'll take my chances with the AR.

@@seanfoltz7645 Dude, I spent 10 years in Afghanistan with my Naval EOD team, I'm American, own many ARs, and can assure you from personal experience that the 5.56mm isn't underpowered. The 5.56mm under 300yrds will almost universally fragment when it penetrates soft tissue, it causes ridiculous wounds and has excellent lethal effects on target. They chose the .45 based on boomer assumptions that heavy mass outperforms velocity, the US military went with the 9mm because frankly it was just as effective. If you think a 5.56mm just lasers through a target you've unfortunately never seen the effects on target, it doesn't it fragments and leaves far more than just a hole..

@@seanfoltz7645 Also they're not adopting the new 6.8 outside some use as a DMR round, they're still going to keep the 5.56mm as the standard round for the foreseeable future, as the standard ammunition for riflemen.

For future reference, if you're going to pretend to have spent a decade in Afghanistan, you need to remember that someone who would do such a thing is old and worldly enough to respect the wisdom and experience of their elders, so while they will affectionately refer to them as old timers, or call them OG with a friendly smile, they would never use the millennial derogatory term "boomer." You would also know that the reason 9mm mags in full size pistols are all 15+ is because the 9mm didn't have the stopping power until the 90s when high performance ammo started being produced for it. Problem is that the military isn't permitted to use that high performance self-defense ammo, meaning 9mm ball today is no better than it was back when .45 ball was the way to go if you were stuck using either straight lead or FMJ. If you spent that long in Afghanistan, you would also know that a number of special forces guys still carry .45, in fact, there was what's effectively a 1911 racegun which was designed exclusively with them in mind and a number of them carry it. Being in the military that long, you also would have known about the problems in Somalia. And of course there's the rifling discussion, something you definitely would have engaged me in if the many ARs you own weren't all in video games and/or airsofts. So sorry kid, but you blew it on multiple fronts and levels.

Only the military should have guns really. They should be allowed to carry a firearm even when they come back home to there families. No one is willing to say that though.

The US has the Second Amendment because many of its Citizens were exiled here from the UK during and After the English Civil War. British soldiers were quartered in American Homes. Colonists on the frontier were in constant warfare with Native Americans. The British couldn’t protect the Settlements. Colonial Governments couldn’t either. The American Revolution was bloody and some of the British Soldiers committed atrocities and the Indians committed atrocities. So it was natural that owning weapons was incorporated into the Bill of Rights.

I think there's a solid counter argument, and mind you I'm not anti gun at all. But the reality is why a civilian would need armor piercing rounds and guns that could take down elephants...kinda makes me wonder. It's a power statement above all others.

Why do people have to quantify the AR-15 as not being as "powerful" as a hunting rifle? It's just as deadly, that non scary 22 caliber 5.56mm is just as deadly in practical effect on target as a 7.62mm at 300yrds and below. I know I've personally killed people with it during my time in Afghanistan. Not saying this as a justification for bans as I think both the weapon systems and ammunition should remain legal and freely available. Just find it a ridiculous point people always make on these videos..

For example: this clause from the US Constitution was written BECAUSE of English law: "The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted." Only thing I have to say is everything is right. Except the Automatic gun part. You can actually get some fully autos as a civilian but you need an insane freakin permit. An each gun is like 10k+ lol so really only rich folk can enjoy the full 2nd amendment currently.

False information, you can own a wide variety of fully automatic weapons as a civilian in the USA. They're more expensive though and require more thorough background checks. Also, muskets are referred to as "single-shot" weapons, not "semi-auto".

First, not thankfully. Every American should exercise their rights. Even if you don't use it. Guns will fall into the possession of anyone who wants one. There are MANY illegal firearms out there. They have been shipped over borders forever and definitely as of late. America has always had guns. Even when you were growing up. Depending on WHEN you grew up, more likely than not, every household had a gun. We dont have a gun issue. We don't even have a "mental health" issue. What we DO have is an entitlement issue. What we DO have is a feelings over facts issue. What we DO have is issues with people not being able to handle NO or you are wrong. What we do have is people who can't handle even being told their shirt/shoes/hair/etc needs some attention. The issue is EVERYTHING is taken as bullying. The issue is EVERYONE takes everything as a personal attack. The issue is people think THEIR feelings trump ANYTHING else. The issue is NOONE uses the phrase sticks and stones anymore. We live in a participation award time. No one was taught to lose. No one was taught No. No one was taught VALUES, MORALS, INTEGRITY, and CONSEQUENCES. Guns and mental health are not to blame. Lack of instilling and implementing VALUABLE lessons is to blame.
