Membership in the US is around $60 annually, but I got a coupon for a $40 annual membership. Costco doesn’t have monthly membership at least not in the US.

You should not be paying membership every month! Even if it's 15gbp , that's £180 per year? That would be 3X the US membership ($60 per year ). I hope that's incorrect or that would be a rip-off ! 😮

Basic membership is $60 a year, so $5 a month for 1 card. Upgraded membership is $120 a month, so $10 a month for 2 cards (me and my parents) and at the end of the year you get 2% back from all purchases you made that year (which usually is enough to pay for my membership fee for the next year, so we don't usually end up paying anything for our membership.)

I wish you two would take us to restaurants and stores that your have there on the island. Show us your favorites (and least favorites). It would be a great way to help your local economy and we would get to see how things are there. It might seem boring to you to visit places you have already been, but many people enjoy watching travel blogs-- the best are usually when the traveler has a local along to show them where to go and how things work.

Keep in mind that everything Costco sells is sold for exactly what they paid for it. The only way Costco makes money is off memberships. Costco buys from vendors in bulk and sells those items at that same bulk price making them break even on merchandise.

The US Costco membership for the basic is about $60/year. I go once every 4-6 weeks to stock up on laundry supplies (detergent/fabric softener), toilet paper, paper towels and medication refills from the pharmacy. Seasonally I also buy produce, holiday items, baked goods (I tend to keep some out and freeze some...things like muffins, dinner rolls, croissants and such) as well as bulk sized items like shampoo/conditioner/mouthwash/coffee/tea.

I'm still mad that Costco replaced their giant salted pretzels with churros. Dipping those pretzels in some spicy mustard was delicious.

Here in central Iowa, it is fairly evenly matched. I know where 3 Sam's clubs are and 2 Costcos. The third Sam's is 45 minutes away.

Cosco is very cost efficient. It is truly a discount store if you are a high volume consumer. This is where you go if you have to buy for a lot of people.

As a single person I find it very hard to use Costco. If I just need a say can of beans, I can't make good use of an industrial size flat of them. For families I'm sure it is the best.

The is a $40/yr membership. My Costco membership is $60/year, and you can have 2 people on the membership. There are perks with the executive membership ($120/yr) like credit kickbacks and discounts on travel. It really pays for itself when you shop often for food. They also have a great return policy.

Costco is only a one time fee a year. You pay $60 to renew it each year. It's not the cheapest place, you will probably end up spending $200 a visit, but you get things in bulk. Need corn dogs? Well, they have 40 of them for $15. That type of thing.

It isn't the best place if you are shopping for the day/week. It is the best place if you are shopping for the month. Visit the smaller grocer for fresh produce and meat, costco for boxed items, paper supply and snacks.

In Ohio in the USA, I think the standard membership is about $60 USD and the premium membership, executive level is $120 USD. Sometimes you can take advantage of promos to get a discount off of the initial membership. The only difference between the two levels is That with premium you get 3% cashback on purchases.

Generally from stores like this in the USA they refund ~3 percent of whatever you spend, so an average family of 4 gets refunded the membership just on toilet paper.

The first time I went into a bulk buy store(Sam's Club) I was the most shocked by one thing. Vending machines, not small little thing, the usual huge behemoths, for sale, for like $5000 iirc. Just blew my mind.

Costco, like other some other wholesale retail places, uses what's called a "loss leader strategy" to purposefully keep their food court items at a low price. Meaning they lose money on the sales of a hot dog or pizza, in hopes that you'll spend the money on other things while you're already in there.

This isn't true. They artificially kept the price down by *buying* the company that was manufacturing the hotdogs. As such, they at least break even if not make a small profit off the hotdogs... at least in ~2020

@@franksmith4730 There’s no way they’re making a profit on the hot dogs, especially now. Loss leader is one of the oldest retailer tricks, I know BJ’s Wholesale Club also takes a loss by never raising the price on their rotisserie chickens for the same reason.

Costco and Sam’s club are both membership bulk stores. Depending on your membership it’s 40-80 a year I think. My Sam’s club membership is more expensive but mine comes with free shipping so I can order most items online and have it shipped to my house (except cold items). My cousin lives close to one so he goes there to eat lunch all the time because it’s so cheap

For the record you do not need a membership to eat in the food court in the US. We have a membership because Costco has a gas station and its cheaper then anywhere else.

I have a membership to Sam's Club (same company owns Wal-Mart). Membership is $45/year for 2 people. Sam's club is very much like Costco. I live in Southeast Missouri and Sam's is much closer for me than Costco. I love Sam's club. I've been a member for over 10 years. I love the selection. At the Sam's club food court, they have Nathan's hot dogs. I LOVE Nathan's all beef hot dogs, they are so good! They are a step up from a traditional hot dog.

Costco pizza is so good. Best bang for your buck. And you don't have to be a member to order them. We we have family get togethers, We will usually order 5 or 6 larger pizzas with different toppings. And its way cheaper then say. Dominos or Pizza but. Sorry, Pizza Hut.

I have a Costco membership. The membership starts at $60 (£47.11) per year for a gold/ basic membership. Executive membership is $120 (£94.20) per year. You get a 2% rebate back at the end of year if you’re an executive member.

They sell their hotdogs and rotisserie chickens at a loss just because they bring so many people in the doors. One time, when approached by an exec about increasing the hotdog price, the CEO responded with "If you raise the fucking hot dog, I will kill you. Figure it out."

Yearly membership is $60/year generally, you can get deals for $20 off... but even at $60 - that's $5/month.... if you go every month (I typically went every other month - so...$10/visit... Still, I saved so much more.... each visit... it's worth it... Sam's Club? Not so much...

the fast food is cheap because it is a loss leader. Meaning they lose money on the food because it gets people to come to the store and THEN they buy stuff that is more profitable.

Costco is overrated and pointless. Sam's Club is the same. After the craze in the late eighties for sam's, it was not worth it to go there unless you're having a party or something. Needing a card just to get in is stupid! Freedom to get food and not needing a membership is the best. The dollar store and the dollar tree stores are just as good to get products and groceries. The main chain grocery stores are way better than anything.

Go to your Auto zone, NAPA, O'Reilly or Advance auto stores or Ashley furniture or other locally owned store's dumb dumb !!! My goodness!! They're many locally owned jewelry mom and pop shops selling also. Where are you living?!! Are you cut off from an array of stores to choose from?!!
