LT was ferocious. One thing I respect about him is when he broke Theismann's leg. There were three or four guys on top of him during that sack and he was the first one out of the pile and was the first one to call for Washington's trainers to come over.
@@howaboutsomesoyfood he wasn't exactly clean, but he wasn't a dirty player. Maybe he used some loopholes to his advantage, got away with a few bigger penalties, but he wasn't malicious in his play, just very confident that he was the best.
Breaking Joe Theisman leg not LT most "famous" play ! What is this? I was watching the game live and Taylor knew immediately it was bad and he waved for medical help . One the worst injury I saw live. Nobody wants that.
This guy used to be my neighbor on my condo building floor in Miami Beach. He's a giant but was a really nice man. Funny story: He went to college at UNC and I went to NC State. There would be times that I'd see him in the corridor while I was wearing NC State gear and we'd share quick smile about it.
I remember him well. He was the best player on my favorite team! I remember the video highlights from an early year where they said the other team chose to simply take a knee rather than face Lawrence Taylor. The narrator said, "But now you've done it...you've made Lawrence Taylor angry."
When I saw LT turn Theisman's leg into a pretzel, it still makes me shudder to see that play, I remember thinking that it was certainly a career ending injury for Theisman. I also prayed the surgeons could put it back together and not have to take it off.
Lawrence Taylor was a dominant defensive Linebacker from his first ever game to retirement in 1993. Being named Rookie of The Year in 1981 was something else, but being named MVP in 1986 against all the great QBs and wide receivers and running backs was unheard off. As a Giants since 70s, he is one of there greatest ever players. In a video of ' Top 10 NFL Defences of all time' , New York Giants of 1986 was ranked around 3/4 and won NFC East and Superbowl. They had a great defense known as 'Big Blue Wrecking Crew' which dominated opposing offences and had greats like Jim Burt, Gary Reasons, Carl Banks, Leonard Marshall and others who reigned for years.
People that don't know a lot about American Football don't understand how ferocious Lawrence Taylor (LT) was!! He was a LION hunting prey with no regard for its body. As a Giants fan, I rooted for him, but I also felt bad for the NFC East quarterbacks. He was unrelenting his his pursuit of sacking the QBs.
LT surely had his demons but he was a monster on the field. A lot of his tackles probably would be penalized today with so many new regulations to protect players / QB’s. Btw, Joe Theisman never took another snap. His career ended that day with that injury. I was actually watching that game when it happened and it was chilling.
KTO makes great videos. I strongly recommend his video on the 2007 college football year if you haven't seen it. Really highlights some of the insanity that college football can create in any given year.
He was coked out of his mind most of the time on the field which, honestly, makes his aggression more understandable. Albert Belle is the MLB version of LT
Crack/Cocaine's effects are very short. It's why people who use them, especially crack, have to keep getting high. LT didn't get high during games. And if he did, the effects would be short term.
Not an individual but a very intimidating defense scheme was the 1985 Chicago Bears 4-6 devised by Buddy Ryan. Worth a quick look if you're in an NFL mood. Definitely not a biased Chicago native.
You should check out Brian Dawkins, or Weapon X. He was an absolute monster on the football field. Had the biggest heart for the game, city, and team. My favorite Philadelphia Eagle 🦅 so much fun to watch growing up. From the massive hits, to him coming out of the tunnels pregame, his speeches. Still a huge part of Philly and even does hype videos for the fans!!
As a Cowboys fan I can not agree more! He is a great dude with a big heart but man I did not enjoy sundays playing against Weapon X! Along with his big heart came A LOT of big hits!
@@richardkinley8872 much respect for your comment! Huge coming from a cowboys fan/rival team lol. His energy was and still is electric!! I wouldn’t wanna be playing against him 😂
I was watching the game where LT broke Thiemann's leg. It was very sickening to see. I was a huge Giants fan back then because the Quarterback for them was Phil Simms who went to my undergraduate Alma Mater (Morehead State University, Morehead, Kentucky). I was sure glad LT was on our side!
I knew it was Lawrence Taylor as soon as I saw the title. If Millie tried to play in an NFL game, the players would pick her up and use her as a football.
Football back in the day Ray Nitschke , Dick Butkus , Mike Ditka , Deacon Jones , Jack Lambert , those were some tough , intimidating players . Story about Butkus biting an officials finger , Lambert telling quarterbacks they needed to start wearing skirts cause they were pussies fun times.
I was almost 18 when we (I'm a life long Giants fan who lives near Giants stadium) drafted LT and saw every minute of every game he played (live at the stadium or local tv) and to this day am an a rabid football fan....and although admittedly partial, I've never seen anyone play with the ferocity that LT did. He would routinely tip the QB pass up in the air (trust me, they rushed their throws when he was coming for them), catch it himself, and score a TD. Saw him do this a few times. He was undeniably amazing. Our whole defense was legendary in the 80s and it culminated in our historic 1986 super bowl victory, which en route, crushed a fantastic Joe Montana led Forty Niners team, 49-3 in the NFC championship game. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Love you guys. PS....that year, 1986, also was the year the NY Mets won the World series against the Boston Red Sox on the back of the historical game 6, 2 out comeback facilitated by one of the greatest (worst?) errors possibly ever committed. Would be great to see you react to those highlights somtime!
LT was great, pure Hall Of Fame!! But most intimidating. No only for young people. That never knew Ray Nietzsche, Dick Butkis, Joe Green, or many more great old timers before they woosified football. Modern day JJ Watt had teams doing the same scheming for him.
Drunk athletes were pretty common back in the day. My Dad was the trainer for the Houston Rockets and I was a ballboy. Rudy Tomjanovich the center drank beer and smoked cigarettes while sitting on the bench. I wont say the players name but he snorted Coke on a regular basis during a game. I remember finding a Coke spoon in his locker and taking it to my Dad and him telling me to never ever mention what I found. I didnt really know what it was at the time since I was ten but I obviously figured it out a few years later as I got older.
He didn't drink the Scope Mouth Wash.. He just used the whole bottle. While driving into practice. Then during watching films. He would go too sleep under the table...
Patriots coach (best coach) Bill Belichick said that the best player he ever had/coached was Lawrence Taylor. And not sure if it was true but Joe Theismann (the terrible leg injury) had his legs insured by Lloyd's of London. He never played again. They don't like to even show it.
and to think what they said at beginning of video, New Orleans Saints had first pick and chose not to pick Lawrence Taylor, their pick of George Rogers isn't a hall of famer, or did much for them than #2 pick by the Giants LT
As soon as I saw the thumbnail of the video I was like is that LT? lol I'm from NJ so Giants are my team. They should be NJ Giants since they play IN NJ!
Before important home games LT would find out what hotel rooms certain key players were staying in, and hire them prostitutes to keep them awake and tire them out the night before the game.
He lived near by and used to stop by my local diner. His friend owned the place and he would sit and chat with the owner who he played golf with. He also would stop by and sit with me, my dad and mom. Once offering me extra giants tickets fir free but I could not go. This was after he retired.
I'm a Giants fan and bleed blue. LT was the greatest defensive player of all-time and there's no argument in my opinion. They mentioned a point in the video where the opponent changed their play to get a cheap shot on him, but it only made him more angry. Lawrence Taylor actually changed how offenses blocked/formations they used. A single player caused teams to revolutionize how they play because he was so dominant. Although I must say that as much as I loved him as a player -- off the field involved many issues. Besides the drug use he also had an incident with an underage girl (paying her $$ for uh...services) and has had many issues of drinking and driving and getting into accidents. Long story short, he's had many issues, but in terms of what he did on the field he probably had the biggest overall impact on the defensive side of the ball in history.
I don't know who this guy was who decided that LT was the most feared player in history, because actually the stats and consensus is that 3 players rank higher. He must be a Giants fan, but he ignores facts. 3rd most feared would be the Raven's Ray Lewis, 2nd would be the Ram's Deacon Jones, and the absolute most feared player ever in NFL history bar none was Dick Butkus. Hey Millie, their is a women's league called the Powder Puff league.
6:25 Lawrence Taylor would take down the quarterback *and* the back that was guarding for him at the same time with very little effort. He changed the game single-handedly -- the left tackle on the offensive line guarding the QB's blindside was no longer "just-a-guy" contract after his play. Sacks became an official statistic because of him alone. The only player who should have on NFL MVP was JJ Watt back in 2014, but that's a story for a different day.
You should check out a few more on Lawrence Taylor "L.T.". Maybe other legends of professional sports like... NBA- Wilt Chamberlain, Magic, Shaq + Dwyane Wade/Shaq & Kobe MLB- Aaron Judge, Alex Rodriguez, Barry Bonds NFL- Deion Sanders, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice NHL- Wayne Gretzky,Mark Messier WBA- Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali. Roy Jones I just wasted 10 minutes looking at random sports stars. lol
Well his portrayal certainly scared the _______ out of me. I love your bravado Millie. "I want to play him." Then, a few seconds later you hear his tone of voice. "No, I don't want to play him." You are very wise. I'll join you on the side-lines.
Millie should check out the Women's Football Association or if she's feeling exhibitionistic, the Legends Football League. Although, I don't think Mr. Beesley would appreciate the uniform of the latter league.
No...go watch about Lyle Alzedo, Dick Buttkus, Mean Joe Green, there were so many players in NFL history that played when they actually played football. Watch the old NFL films or the 10 most feared tacklers in NFL history.
Millie…🤣🤣🤣 I 💜 you. He played against my team. Just to be clear, it wasn’t ok here to play under the influence either. And as for showing up drunk to practice, well… I definitely don’t doubt the veracity of that claim. At that point, though, it’s up to your team coaches and management if they will let you practice. I’m sure the blind eye was turned due to his immense talent and his team’s need for him to be there in order to win games.
I wrote to George young to ask why he took so long to draft Taylor He wrote back that he simply couldn’t believe his eyes when the saints picked rogers He had to double check that he was t seeing things he said
Theisman's broken leg was the most horrible thing I ever saw in a football game. Even much worse to see than Damar Hamlin. They kept playing it in slow motion over and over and over. I still cringe when I see it. The only comparable thing is Rhonda Rousey snapping people's elbows out of joint.
All those plays are clean as well, no cheap shots there. Nothing wrong with you guys saying either pitch or field. It just doesn't sould right if an American says pitch, instead of field.
he was a football savant, he changed he game like jordan changed the NBA, no one was doing the strip sack thing as a thing before LT... if he could not sack the QB he would swat the QBs arm, that is now standard in the NFL... people may try to diminish his performances due to the crack/coke, that is fine, it should be mentioned but he was not the player he was because of the cocaine... Parcells knows players as does Bellicheck, so I trust those guys as evaluators.
Mouthwash contains a little alcohol but not much. It’s a bad habit of alcoholics to swallow mouthwash to get themselves any alcohol they can to keep themselves decent. Some people actually take blue cursao and add food coloring to make it lighter color to get past airport security as a bottle of mouthwash. It’s not a good option now due to the liquid restrictions and honestly why would you. Mouthwash now comes in alcohol free versions meaning it doesn’t burn your mouth. The best of which is the crest one, sorry Milly it’s like that now.
LT! If they still made football players like him and Lou Alzado, the NFL would be the highest paid sport on the planet! He was a BEAST! (Just ask Joe Theisman!) No, nothing in this video is exaggerated. LT was a human machine.
I honestly think I would be more afraid of alzado because getting injured is one thing, but getting my head torn off and punted into the stands is something significantly worse.
