Texas is not necessarily an easy state to visit because of the distances involved but if you don't want to rent a car then it's possible to fly from major city to city and UBER or LYFT. Texas also can really be a great travel value if you choose accommodations carefully and ask pretty much any of us locals about where to eat, what live music joints to go to, etc. And forget about the stereotypes!! We're not all only Cowboys, Mexicans, yahoos etc!! Also note that this isn't the kind of trip that's a long weekend unless you were to just pick one city. And honestly at your age I would recommend either Austin or San Antonio for a shorter type of trip because of their sights but also because they have the best tourist infrastructure of any of the major cities here in Texas.

Being from Illinois, something that is a must to try is a very local regional favorite Horseshoe! It consists of toast covered with a meat of your choice, pile on the French fries over the meat, and then smothered in a cheese sauce! They are delicious and probably a little bit artery clogging! The smaller version is called a Ponyshoe and most restaurants have their own version of huge ones that become a challenge to finish within a set time and earn a prize, get if for free along with your picture going on a “wall of fame” if you finish it. Go online and check out Darcy’s Pint in Springfield IL for a picture and description of Horseshoes.

A piping hot bowl of clam chowder on a cold winter day is the best, especially if you had been working in the cold. Also, rocky mountain oysters are not bad, they are one of the best "drunk foods". Have a basket or two after pounding back beer, tequila, whiskey, or whatever alcohol you prefer. When you are drunk enough, you won't care what you eat. Us Americans need all the sweet foods to balance out all the savory dishes we have, so after your meals have a dessert.

Remember that these food choices are sponspored and don't accurately reflect each state. Yes, Pepe and Sally and cousin Bimonte have wood fired pizza. They did not invent it, nor is it the best pizza in CT. That is highly subjective. Personallly, I like Rossini's but there are hundreds of great pizza places in CT. New Haven is home of the first actual ground beef hamburger, so technically hamburger should be the non sponsored choice for this video.

The secret to finding great BBQ in Texas is asking a local person where they eat. Hopefully they will send to a shabby little place where you are served by an owner or family member. 😋 Avocado is a peculiar color but has creamy mild taste. It is wonderful as guacamole, on sandwiches, cheeseburgers with swiss cheese, and surprisingly eggs.

It depends. There are black/dark purple varieties and green varieties. The smaller black varieties are native to Mexico while the larger green ones are native to Central America and the West indies. Green varieties are lower in fat while dark ones make the best guac. Fun Fact: When the Aztecs discovered the avocado in 500 BC, they named it āhuacatl, which translates to "testicle."

I live in NH and I live about 10 minutes away from apple crest farm. Every September/October my family and friends go and pick our own apples at the farm. They serve warm apple cider donuts (which is really a more of a plain donut with cinnamon topping). We then bake fresh apple pies during the fall season. It’s a fun activity. Also I can assure you that New England clam chowder and Maine lobster rolls are delicious. We practically live on those two staples most of the summer while dining in Portsmouth at the docks. They have an entire clam chowder/seafood festival every September @ Hampton Beach. You should come and I could show you around the all the local spots. Our region and cuisine is amazing. Minnesota is also known for fresh water fish, in particular sunfish, battered and fried (absolutely delicious if never frozen or was alive less than an hour ago), and Nebraska has two other foods to mention. The Runza, a eastern Europe immigrant food of a small loaf of bread with fried beef and onions in the middle, and then Omaha Steaks. Beef is king in Nebraska with lots of beef ranches all over the middle of the state that eat all the corn this state can grow.

Michigan is more than Mackinac Island Fudge, although it is my personal fave when combined with vanilla or fudge swirl ice cream. Michigan also has pasties, which are basically very large hot pockets and can be a variety of fillings. My personal fave pasty is a venison and bacon pasty my aunt used to make when we'd go out deer hunting. It's a nice way to warm up when it's below freezing outside and you're sitting in a deer blind for hours. Michigan also is home to Detroit Style Deep Dish Pizza. It is sort of a hybrid of Chicago Deep Dish and New York Style. Just get a large square pan, put in the dough, put in the sauce and toppings, and layer the hell out of it with cheese. Some places have it cut in strips, some cut it up into squares, but it is so gooood! We also have a lot of apple orchards, and yeah, they use apple cider to make and flavor donuts. We also are a major producer of cherries and mint in the world, so there is that bit of info.

Ok guys, as a person from ND/MN area. I'll give you the fast recipe for Tater Tot Hotdish, all ingredients scale up since most ingredients are canned or frozen. This -is- a winter based comfort food. I'm gonna translate a few terms for better understanding.... 1 can condensed Cream of Celery soup 1 can condensed Cream of Mushroom soup Veggies (Carrots, peas, green beans, corn) make your choices by personal preference here 1 lb (500 grams) hamburger (beef mince - unseasoned - your choice to season) 1 frozen bag of potato crunchies Large baking pan or pot (or 2) Large metal mixing bowl My prep - you can make your own choices here.... Preheat oven to 425 (220 C) Fry the beef mince with 2-3 splashes of Worcestershire or Soy sauce until completely cooked - DO NOT DRAIN OR STRAIN THE JUICES OUT. DO NOT REDUCE LIQUID! You need it!!! While the meat is cooking - cook and heat the Veggies to boiling. Place cream soups into mixing bowl Drain Veggies and add to bowl Pour in meat mixture and stir when completely mixed, place mixture into baking dishes leaving at least 2-3 cm space on the top. top and completely cover with potato crunchies Add cheese if you want on top of that.... Place in the oven for 30-45 minutes - keep an eye on the dish to avoid a spillage - the filling can boil over if not enough space was left from the top of the baking dish. Give it a go :D

Apple cider donuts are to die for if you get them fresh and microwave them for like 5-10 sec. Also we have a couple different gravys, you can get classic brown but we have pork and turkey as well as white. The white is really good on chix fried steak or for breakfast with biscuits and gravy!

Storytime- In 98' me and a female work colleague had to travel to Denver from Atlanta on a business trip to meet clients. (Large fiber-optic networking firm) The weather got really bad and we sat on the tarmac for 2 1/2 hours. This turned a 3 1/2 hour trip into 6 hours flight time plus getting our luggage and we were absolutely STARVING. The clients met us to buy our dinner at a steakhouse I can't remember the name of. They already had a double-order of calf-fries on the table when we arrived. We both dug in and started scarfing these things down bc we were so hungry. They were nothing special, I just figured they cut the potatoes in little disc's, deep fried and served with a yummy sweet and sour dipping sauce. Eventually we settled in and one of the clients said: "You guys are really enjoying those calf fries, have you had them before?" Puzzled we were like...."Have we ever had french-fries before?" Client: "These are a little different, they're deep-fried bull testicles." Now something I thought I could never eat was calamari(squid) bc I used to deep-sea fish with it. It's absolutely disgusting, stinky, slimy and it's very difficult to get the funk off your hands. The kinda stuff you have to WEAR OFF instead of washing off. If you fry anything to a crunchy texture and serve it with a good sauce, it's edible. So I shrugged it off. My colleague......Not so much....I cannot even describe the look of horror there was on this woman's face. She excused herself to the washroom and began violently throwing up. As professional gentlemen, we really, really tried not to laugh at her. We all cracked to the point that some of us were in tears. I went to the restroom entrance to ask if she was okay. She came out red-faced, by that time our orders started arriving and she was pissed for about 10 minutes and then she calmed down and had a laugh about it. Girls a trooper.

We have both brown and white gravy. Both are delicious. You will hear the term "chicken fried" and "country fried" in the south. Both represent a breaded and deepfried meat (chicken and steak usually but sometimes pork chops as well). "Country fried" is usually topped with brown gravy while "chicken fried" is usually topped with white. Honestly though, white pepper gravy with sausage poured over southen style buttermilk biscuits is amazing too! Come to think of it, you should visit Arkansas and find a place that serves chocolate gravy while you're at it 😉

The "Cuban Sandwich" originated in Tampa when vendors would sell the "mixto" sandwiches to workers from the cigar factories. In a nod to the many Italian immigrants, the "Tampa Cuban" includes Genoa Salami in addition to ham, "lechon asado" (slow roasted pork marinated in sour citrus juice), swiss cheese, dill pickle, and mustard on Cuban bread. It dates from the late 19th century and remains a favorite of the Tampa area. The "Miami" Cuban is more well known and does not include salami. It's history dates back to the influx of Cubans after F. Castro took power in the 1950's. Both styles are usually served hot "pressed" in a panninni press.

I've been to the Bacchanal Buffet in Vegas and it was a 3 hour wait to get in but it was amazing. They also gave us mimosas as we waited for them to make food requests for us and the king crab legs were to die for. Would I do it again? No.. but it was worth doing once.

As far as pallate changing...I'm not a picky eater and always try and give something I don't like a go every few years to see if I like it...but I'm 30 years old and one of the few things I didn't like was canned beets (I think you call it beet root?) and mushrooms. Last winter I was pregnant and had a really strong craving for them. They are frequently on the salad bar at my work and I started eating them almost daily...had my baby in February and still like them. I literally tried for YEARS to like them and had given up. Just shows that your taste can change even when you are "old" like me :)

I know Brits get confused with our gravy. We do both White and Brown gravy. White gravy is made with cream, sometimes has a smoky taste, and we'll mainly put it on our breakfast foods, we'll also put it on Mashed Potatoes. For dinner meats we'll use regular brown gravy.

I live in Grand Rapids Michigan and Chicago is about 170 miles away. I have been known to get in my car and drive to Chicago Saturday morning for an early evening deep dish Chicago style pizza. Nothing like them. And Mackinac is about a day away from Grand Rapids so we used to go and get fudge in my younger days also. So rich, so good. We would drive non-stop. THe nice thing about any state in the USA is you can experience about 75% of all those foods. People move and bring there menu with them to different states. So in Michigan I can get a take out of BBQ ribs and Brisket and go to the beach on Lake Michigan for the day at Mears state park and enjoy a day eating and drinking on the Lake.

I'll tell you, one of those that you can't appreciate until you have gone down the road of eating a lot of it, is Green Hatch Chili from New Mexico. Many surrounding states like Oklahoma, Texas, and Arizona have been attempting to appropriate it and the Hatch designation as though they originated it or as if Hatch could be any place except where it really is which is New Mexico. The flavor is tremendous when properly grown and used in cooking.

All these foods, except a few, are amazing! I think you might like clam chowder, every restaurant has its own recipe, so if you do like it, you just have to hunt around until you find the one you like. A must is the chicken fried steak; surprisingly, the white gravy is very good. Cracker Barrel has my favorite. These foods are all incredible, but if you ate them regularly, you would be busting your britches in no time at all. If we go on vacation and indulge in the local foods, we have go on a diet when we get back. Have fun trying it all🤗!

Ore-Ida, a potato-based frozen food company, invented tater tots as a way to use up all the potato trimmings from their frozen French Fries. They're chopped up bits of potatoes, with flour, and seasonings. Formed into a cylinder and fried. Since they're from Ore-Ida, they're then frozen and reheated before serving.

While I don’t disagree that there’s a lot of coffee culture in Washington, we should have been known for our teriyaki, because the style of it is unique to this part of the US.
@tarmaque

Yeah, I think Washington should have had something to do with fried razor clams, dungeoness crabs, or apples. Possibly something to do with strawberries as well, although the strawberry industry has mostly died since they developed decent everbearing strawberries you can grow in California. Talking about Vermont and apples is a disrespect for Washington, which grows more apples than the rest of the US combined. As well as fruits from cherries to pears. One could also mention Chinook salmon, Kokanee salmon, or Steelhead Trout. (I basically grew up on various wild fish, along with venison, elk, ducks, and geese. My Mom is a dungeoness crab addict, and we grew up digging razor clams. There's also a big oyster industry here, as well as cranberries.) Marionberry pie for Oregon is also a bit ridiculous. Clearly the state food of Oregon is microbrew beer, because arguably microbrew culture in North America started in Portland. You could also mention that Maraschino cherries were developed in Oregon, as well as the common "Hood" variety of cherries.
