I got just got a large 5-topping pizza from Dominos last week for $9.99 and they gave me a coupon for $3 off if I order another large this week. So $16.98 for two large 5-topping pizzas. Just gotta keep your eye out for deals/coupons because the "normal" prices are kind of insane now.

Laurence has a new puppy. This strange baby voice comes out of Laurence's formerly British mouth when he's addressing the puppy, and it's hilarious. 😄 BTW: in terms of THIS video, it's typically down to economy of scale. When you have a bigger customer base, like the US does compared to the UK, you buy ingredients in larger quantities and thus pay less per unit. Of course you can also manipulate the system to make a bigger profit if your customers don't rebel against it. Ergo, Shake Shake gets away with charging an outrageous amount for their quantity of fries... because a captive audience there mainly for the burgers lets them get away with it.

@tweter2

Even in the US, I think price varies by region and ownership. For instance, some companies (say Dairy Queen and McDonalds) owns some restaurants while franchising others out. Prices in LA and NYC may be higher than Minneapolis. Thoughts?
@christianoliver3572
@christianoliver3572 Год назад
I was in NYC for a couple of weeks in the late 90s and I had Mikky D's in Times Square. It was a complete ripoff as everything else is there. $7.50 for a Quarter Pounder while at the same time in Texas it was about $3.50. But New York prices are always going to be ridiculous which is why it's not my favorite place in the world. I'd rather spend that kind of money in London or Bordeaux.
@thomasmacdiarmid8251
@thomasmacdiarmid8251 Год назад
@@christianoliver3572 I really doubt that it is fair to call it a 'ripoff'. To stay in business, the restaurant has to cover its costs. Many costs are much higher in NY city and state. The taxes are quite high, real estate is very high whether you purchase or rent, getting supplies in is more expensive, getting trash out is more expensive, and labor costs are considerably higher. Some of that is government action and some of that is the natural limitations of doing business on perhaps the most developed island in North America. Ripoff has the connotation that McD's is just abusing the limited availability, but to the extent that it just reflects the costs, that is not fair. And besides, people are free to eat elsewhere, and there are lots of eating choices, so if someone chooses McD's, that's their choice. The few times I was there it seemed the local joints had much better prices than the chains for whatever reason and provided good foods with unique character, so I would recommend being a little more adventuresome.

We grow most of what we eat and the U.K. imports most of what they eat. Importing makes everything more expensive and leaves you vulnerable to the vagaries of markets. You guys really need to do something about that before something worse than the pandemic supply shortages and Brexit hits. Everyone needs to start growing more of their own food supplies. The U.K. has V.A.T. The U.S. has sales tax. I don't know how much V.A.T. is but it's probably more than any individual sales tax, which is usually less than 9%. Sales tax does not apply to stock moved within the same corporate structure. Sales tax only applies to the sale price. Wholesale taxes are lower than retail taxes. Because Europeans are just trained to think that way. But as a British American, it's all lies. Americans EAT smaller portions. The difference is American food in restaurants typically only comes in one course, or appetizer and main course. Most people share the appetizer and only eat half their meal. Versus Europe, their individual courses are smaller portions but they're only meant for one and then they'll typically have at least 4 courses, like soup/salad, appetizer, side, main, etc and eat 100% of that and then also order dessert. It's absolutely insane how much Europeans and Asians can eat!
