Video about NORAD and no information about how they track Santa Claus on Christmas eve from the North Pole to every neighborhood in the US? My kids used to follow the bleep on the screen showing the route of the reindeers.

Look up a video about The Greenbriar Resort in White Sulpher Springs, West Virginia that held a secret bunker beneath the resort that could house all 535 mbrs of Congress. The bunker was a secret until revealed in an article by the Washington Post in 1992, It's since been decommissioned (directly after its existence was revealed) but can be visited now by the public. It was renovated and is currently used by the public sector as an information storage facility.

I was at Cheyenne Mountains with my Royal Canadian Air Cadets squadron when I was a 15 year old teenager way back in 1974 (I think!) some 50 years ago. It was a gas! We went down to Colorado by air force bus from Regina, Saskatchewan and it was 1 1/2 days of straight driving during Easter holidays through blizzards in North Dakota and Wyoming and finally Colorado.. It was still winter in Saskatchewan but when we got to Colorado Springs it was much warmer, around 70 F. Leaves were coming out on the trees, which they didn't even think about doing in Regina, LOL! The Americans treated us very well, no complaints there! We ate at Peterson Air Force base and there was more good food than you could shake a stick at. All the cooks and mess hall staff were black. Then we got a tour of the Air Force Academy and that is also a _very_ impressive facility. The Vietnam war was still going in 1974 and the Canadian dollar was actually worth more than the American dollar, one of those rare moments! I remember us driving into the mountain in a bus and seeing all kinds of netting attached to the walls of the tunnel to catch any rocks that fell loose. I well recall those giant coil springs all the buildings were sprung from, and the giant blast doors. Then we got to see the James Bond type central command centre with its giant electronic maps on the wall showing everything from every conceivable direction all the way up to the Arctic, which is likely where any Soviet attack would come from. All in all I was one impressed 15 year old and I recommend a tour of the place if anyone ever gets the opportunity. We stopped at Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills of South Dakota on the way back. The Black Hills are a place where you half expect a dinosaur to be around every bend in the road, it is so primitive looking, wow! 😎👌💖

There's a little known, smaller sister NORAD facility at CFB North Bay (Ontario, Canada) - my hometown. It's much smaller and the operations have largely been moved above ground. During the cold war, it was a much bigger base with the NORAD "Hole" to monitor for Russian bombers coming over the North Pole; Fighter/interceptor squadron(s); and Bomarc intercontinental nuclear missiles (1961-1972). I've been down in the "hole" 2 times; my Boy Scout leader was the 2nd in command at the base. It has the biggest blast doors you've ever seen and all the underground buildings are built on the biggest springs you will ever see. Fascinating place.

When I was growing up in the 60s & 70s, just to the ESE of the Minuteman intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) bases in North Dakota (over 1,000 ICBMs were in siloes in ND, MT & WY), our high school history teacher pointed out that the radioactive fallout from a nuclear war would likely take out our whole area, as the weather normally moved the winds from "hundreds of bulls-eyes" to the west, directly at us. At the time, the state of North Dakota would have been the 3rd largest nuclear power in the world behind the USSR and the rest of the USA - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGM-30_Minuteman

back in the eighties there was a film called war games about a teenage hacker who breaks into NORAD's computers and almost causes a nuclear war. It was mostly nonsense of course but when president ronald reagan saw it he took it seriously and ordered a new government program to stop that scenario from ever happening. Don't know if some kind of early alzeimer's disease was already affecting him then.⚛
@Lynn-kh5rs
@Lynn-kh5rs 14 дней назад
Let's be fair; granted it wasn't possible in the 80's but look at all the cyber crimes/hacks we see today which are continuously more sophisticated than the last. In some ways 'War Games' was like several sci-fi/science fantasy stories unknowingly coming up with future possibilities. Examples: Jules Verne's '20k Leagues Under the Sea' (nuclear subs) & Star Trek's hand-held medical devices to name two.

Very interesting. Thanks Amanda. Another great suggestion. I've always been a bit curious as to why anyone would build something like that for protection against nuclear attacks. I would suspect there would be multiple attacks on strategic locations and each one could potentially be thousands of times more powerful than the ones dropped on Japan. So When the smoke clears, do the survivors crawl out into a barren world void of living animals, plant life and other humans? Not exactly the best environment to hunt or find other natural food supplies. Or would they stay in the the bunker and wait on the predicted half life of the radioactive fall out to drop hazards to a survivable level, bring out some seeds and plant a garden? Seems they did a great job of planning on how to survive the attack, but I've never heard what their plan was once the attack was over.😁 Thanks again, Amanda. And thanks guys for another eye opening reaction.- Hawk

"Joan Jett & The Blackhearts - I Love Rock 'N Roll (Official Music Video)" (by the channel: Joan Jett & The Blackhearts) --This song is from their second studio album called "I Love Rock 'N Roll" released in 1981, the song is actually cover. The original was done by "The Arrows" in 1976. I've read, Jett saw the Arrows perform this song on tv and fell in love with the song, it was a song she sang regularly at all of her venues prior to recording it on this album. Jett is considered the "Godmother of Punk" the "Original Riott Girrl." And as always, I enjoy rocking with you guys. Thanks for sharing. peace out~
