FINALLY GETTING TO VISIT THE BEST SUPERMARKET EVER, TRADER JOES!!!!!! And a cheeky little taste test and food haul at the end :) Instagram: gracebooth97
If I ever get the pleasure of going back to NY and going to trader joes, what good should I have tried!? AND where should I visit next in the world????
OMG you must try the movie theatre popcorn, the microwaveable soup dumplings, the cookie ice cream sammies, and the BROOKIES. There’s soooo much amazing stuff. I go there once a week and still haven’t tried all the fun stuff!
The Philippines 🇵🇭 will welcome 🤗 you with open arms as you know their way of cooking. Take your family with you now that it is finally open to foreigners and visit the one of many islands.
Very surprised you didn't get any "everything but the bagel seasoning"!! My friend went to the states for thanksgiving and brought me back some & it's amazing!
I find this so funny because I literally shop at Trader Joe's every week... but I know if I'm in England I will absolutely lose my mind in an M&S or Sainsbury's or Tesco 😂 Also those plantain chips are AMAZING. If my childhood was a snack, it would be those.
The last time I was at my local ALDI here in Germany they had the gummy turtles. So maybe you could get them in the UK, too? And whenever there is an "American week" at ALDI they have quite a few Trader Joe's products. Since TJ's is part of the ALDI group I could imagine them doing this in other countries as well.
@@lururu they do!I haven't seen an American week yet but I know they've done a greek week and an Italian week, so maybe there will be an American one :) pretty sure its Italian week this week (maybe)
Could tell Grace was VERY excited to be at Trader Joe’s…..I was getting whiplash from the “frantic” back and forth filming!😂 so happy for you Grace, that you finally made to this iconic store…..
omg the maple cookies are NEXT level, you're gonna love them! as an american who grew up on TJs this was so heartwarming to watch!! this was exactly how i felt the first time i visited a tesco lol. i'm so happy for you grace :') i hope you had a blast!!
Your mum at the end reaching out to the CEO of trader joe's is cracking me up. I can't believe you didn't love the almond butter pretzels! They are hands down my fave at TJs. Every time I get a parcel sent to Australia of TJs snacks, it's got to have those. Also missed opportunity to get yourself a cool reusable shopping bag, they have the best ones!!!
Girl I moved from the US to Europe 4 years ago and I still think about those maple cookies at least once a week. I can eat a whole box in one sitting. Congratulations on having the experience of eating those in your future.
Steel cut oats are in fact cut with steel. But it means that the bits of oats are like small, three dimensional pieces, kind of similar in texture (dried) to cornmeal, rather than rolled oats that are flat. The shape means that it retains more texture, so most people prefer them for cooked oatmeal (or porridge) but don't prefer them for overnight oats (although I don't mind). I wouldn't expect you to care much as you don't prefer oatmeal generally.
Over time adapted from the English term for the size of the oats, pin [sized] (the size of a pin head). Referring to the 3 general types (now), Steel cut or coarse/Irish oatmeal, rolled (whole oats steamed then pressed into small oval shaped discs) and modern "instant" (pre cooked, dried out, then rolled thinner than rolled oats).
I am an American living in London and the thing I miss most, second to my family, is 100% Trader Joes. The snacky bits are fun but the frozen foods/prepared dips etc. are the best bits - shame you couldn't try! Fun fact - they are the OGs for the Everything But the Bagel Seasoning
Grocery shopping in other countries is my favorite! I still remember every shop I went to in Valladolid, Spain when I was there more than 10 years ago. Btw, our city got a Trader Joe’s about 8 years ago and I still get excited every time I go there. The salads and dehydrated fruits are some of my favorite items there.
shopping in a supermarket in a foreign country is everything i want to do ever but it would give me major anxiety too so i would not be able to go in and just walk up and down in front of the entrance like a stray cat
I have a TJs about 20mins from my house and go about once a month. Great place to try unusual foods & love the frozen & bakery sections. Also go there to find friend gifts during the holidays. The pineapple salsa is good if one likes to dip their nibbles into something more sweet than hot. I always buy MILD salsa as I don't like to burn my tongue off LOL. Glad you enjoyed! 🇺🇸🇬🇧
Currently watching this video while I’m on my break at Trader Joe’s. It’s so funny watching you get so excited over products I put on the shelves every day hahaha I love it!! The maple leaf cookies are one of my faves ❤️❤️
If I visit America and go to Trader Joes I have to get the trail mix, honestly there is nothing like it in the uk, and the ‘cookies’ in the big tubs that we dunk in tea, they are delish I think they might be white chocolate and cranberry. Long time since I’ve been though
I live in America and like save my Trader Joe’s trips as a monthly treat! I get so excited for all the seasonal treats that come in! I can only imagine how fun this was for you as a visitor 😁
Yerba Mate is a South American plant/infusion which is commonly brewed in a special cup (also called mate) and drank through a straw with a filter called a bombilla. You can also find in sachets much like you would tea, we call that mate cocido. It is very popular here in Argentina. What Trader Joe's had doesn't seem to be the tradional preparation (although it could be a versión of tereré, a cold brewed drink made with the plant) but more of an iced tea made with the yerba.
An honest question, do supermarkets like this come with a lot of waste? So many products (often with limited shelf life), so much choice? It's hard for me to imagine even half of all that stuff gets bought. (Again, honest question, I only have experience with supermarkets in my own country.)
We don't have Trader Joe's in Canada (obvi) but I feel like the southern Ontario region (or maybe in all of Ontario) has a similar store called Farm Boy. The food is fresh and they carry their own products. I'm currently eating their torilla chips which are truly the best on the market.
visiting a supermarket is always my top priority when I’m abroad! It’s always sooo intriguing to see what different products other countries have. 🥰 but I do have to say, that seeing this mass of packaging kinda hurts...
I'm with you Grace, love Trader Joe's. It is still funky and cool. Staff seem happy. They carry items that surprise and delight. Always have flowers and plants that are pretty and affordable. The frozen foods are also really good. So glad you and your mom had fun!
TJs return/ refund policy is amazing. If you don't like something; you can bring it back and they'll give you a refund. Also, if you want to try something; they will open up whatever it is and let you try it💚🌟Glad you had fun at TJs💚🌟🎊
Getting whiplash in the first 3 minutes of this video from Grace excitedly spinning the camera around? Erm yes?! We love to see it?!!! Seriously tho, well jealous and I'm glad you're living your best life :D
Love this! I'm just imagining the americans that stood beside you and heard "omg that's FUN!!" with a british accent 😂 But I must say I almost felt like this when I went to England and visited a Lidl, we do not have any one those in Norway 👀
As an American, I’m so excited for you. I feel the same when I’m abroad and visit other grocery stores. But let’s be real, TJ’s is a league of its own. And don’t feel that badly about the big cereal- I’m always let down by tj cereal.
@@annefresia2102 honestly, same. I think it’s a requirement that the Trader Joe’s parking lots must be absolute garbage. I try to go at 8pm and hope for the best.
I love the universal experience of traveling and looking for crazy, different things in gas stations or grocery stores like this! I found one of my favorite treats in a French gas station 😂
That Salsa Especial is delicious but for me, it hits the sweet spot when I buy the mild and the medium and then mix them together. Mild is too mild, medium is too hot - together, they're perfect!
Your mum mildly roasting you and then calling you hun 😂 so funny! I am with you on the trader joes bandwagon, it is life and I wish we had it in London! 💕
First of all, I had an impossible dream that you would come to wine country in California and I could guide you through your Trader Joe's visit. You kind of need a guide for Trader Joe's. There are so many gems that are the most delicious, fun things you could ever imagine, but there are a lot of misses too. Something they have two almost identical products, one great, one terrible. The video was epic for me, but I wanted to jump into the video so badly and guide you to the best bits!! You and mom (and dad) (and of course bro and sis and cat) are adorable! P.S. The dark russet potato chips are bomb!
We are lucky to have Trader Joe's here. I have my specific things I buy every time - most of it is the frozen stuff. Easy-peasy meals!!! One of my staples is the frozen cubes of garlic (but they have them at Whole Foods, too). Some of the seasonal Christmas items are to die for and you have to load up early before they disappear. They have the BEST gingerbread mix, but only at Christmas. And those PB&J snacks . . . I'm looking at three boxes in my son's snack bin, right now. Such a hit!!
I head to NYC next week and my gosh! Trader Joe's is getting a visit!!! My mouth is WATERING thinking of those tangy turtles! I need to hunt down the array of hummus too. I can feel a Netflix & Trader Joe Night coming on! 😆 x
I walk to our Trader Joe’s every week for our regular shop. In honesty, their prepared meals with the exception of the frozen pizza are just meh. Their excellent quality produce, dairy and bakery items is where they really shine. We even served TJ’s hors d'oeuvres at our wedding reception. They were a big hit!
Yes! I feel the same way about Trader Joe’s and I’m American lol. But I had a bit of a chuckle over the oats comments. Similar comments from myself in England. 💕💕💕
Trader Joe’s is the BEST!! Now I’ll watch the video 😂 Ok now I’m back after watching…I’m so glad you loved it like I do! There’s just something special about that store and every time I shop there it’s hard to limit myself, I just want to try everything! So go on their website, there’s a place where you can put in a request for them to open a store. I did it in my city in Florida along with many others and now we have a store around the corner! So exciting! So who knows, put in your request and maybe they will go international! Glad you’re having fun in NYC! Stay safe and happy 😘
So excited to watch this! I've never been either but I know you've been wanting to go for literal ages! So I hope it was everything you wanted and more! 😍✨
Trader Joe's is actually owned by Aldi! In germany there are 2 different Aldi's - Aldi Nord and Aldi Sud. Aldi Sud is essentially the Aldi we have here in the UK. Aldi Nord expanded to America and created the brand - Trader Joe's
Actually Aldi nord owns Trader Joe’s and Aldi sud owns Aldi in the states. They have separate ownership here and have no ties with each other here. Only thing they have in common is they sprung up from the same family way back in the day.
I'm so jealous that your Mum got excited in the supermarket too 😂! I LOVE visiting supermarkets, but my family all hate it. I need someone who can embrace the whole supermarket / trying new food experience with me!
Hi Grace. I hope you do love Trader Joe’s. It’s always so busy in my old city. Did you know that one of the NYU dormitories is in the same building to one of the locations?!
So my mom told me to check out your channel because we have the same religious beliefs. I have to say, your content is pretty wholesome, would you be willing to a collaboration? I do food product reviews so it would be fairly consistent with your content.
Seriously you need to buy steel cut oats, they are not smashed grain, instead they are chopped so when you eat them it isn’t mush. Its a wonderful chewy and smooth nutty oatmeal.
When you said that a good night out was in Tescos I laughed, then realised I’ve done exactly the same thing in England at about 3 a.m. Supermarkets close at 20:00 where I live now. 🇮🇹 😳
"What's yerba mate?" ::guffaw:: It's pronounced yerba maa-tay. Sounded like you were asking your mate what yerba is. You're too cute, Grackle!!! Gotta love ya! 🥰🤪
Having purchased many dud items at Trader Joe's (as well as many crave-worthy favorites), I'm pausing just before the taste test with a sense of trepidation. So much charming enthusiasm I fear is about to crash to bits! Oh, the suspense! lol 10:55 Phew! Finally a winner with the garlic naan crackers! ; - D And thank goodness a few more wins after that! Trader Joe's CEO, I hope you're listening about the UK expansion! ; - )
