British guitarist analyses Christone 'Kingfish' Ingram PREACHING the blues! 

Kingfish is a good friend of mine. He was about 12 yr when I first met him. He has been been getting better all the time. He is a quiet polite kind of shy guy but when gets on stage lord have mercy. When his voice was changing he was struggling. But now his vocals are coming together really great. His confidence is up & is showing a a fantastic feel for the music. One of my great Clarksdale Mississippi homies. Im real proud of him & happy for his success. He has his 1st CD coming out soon & Im shore it will be a collectors item because he's getting very popular now. A fantastic talent.

Kingfish plays the guitar like it is an extension of his hands. He hardly even looks at the fretboard when he plays. Perfect clean notes, wicked vibrato and LOTS of soul. An absolute master blues guitar player. As usual , your analysis was excellent.

Sitting here open mouthed listening to this young man play with such soul and heart felt emotion. Going to have to find more of his work. Incredible talent

Holy cow, that is blues mastery! He's got that combo of being technically "clean" but it's still got enough grit and feeling to be blues. What a great find this video was!

I agree with you very much , Fil ... I’m praying for the young man that he can get his weight more manageable... he’s a nice young man and yes , very shy ... I have a friend that looked almost just like him ( but twenty five years older ) and he lost quite a bit , going from almost 400 lbs to around 250 ... I’m hoping this for Christone as well

Fil, another great analysis. I love your videos, and your love of music across all genres really comes across. I saw Kingfish when he and his group were just playing background music at a reception at an art museum in my hometown. He was probably about 17-18 at the time, but he was just blowing everyone away. He's a great talent with a great future ahead.

He threw Sanford and Son theme in there!!!! hahahha The guy is really good. Maybe his set of licks isn't as broad as some players but he is really good. He didn't play beyond his means, he didn't panic, he knows how to switch from fullon minor to some sweet major and his tone was great. VIBRATOOOOOOOOOOOO! Had to add that. :) Good analysis, Fil. You manage to find these points and bring them to the surface for everyone to see.

Love this young man... he is far beyond his age in music. He is quiet and shy because he has a mild form of Asperger's syndrome from what I have read recently. It's also probably why he is so well versed in music. He picks it up in no time flat and can convert it into a unique yet identifiable piece. Amazing God-given talent!!

This lad has the Blues, he is a natural and he has a powerful feel, strong rhythm chops. I was going to refer to Christone's body mass, but I would say it is none of my business.

He can play the guitar like he is ringing a bell... if the bell is making sounds that even the inventors of the bell could not imagine and the bell had an infinite amount of sounds manipulated in unique ways that not only make the listener move and scream with joy and amazement, but came accompanied by a voice that came out of the bell, which seems to be coming from another world yet sounds so natural... (etc.) That kid is simply one of a kind in the best way possible. It is rare to pay homage to the greats of the past whilst creating something individually his own, but he is blazing a path for himself. Wow!

Great bluesman, a great example of why all those people whining that there is no great talent in the younger generations are all wet, they just aren't looking hard enough!!!!

I ran monitors for him tonight and had the privilege of mixing my own private concert in my cue wedge. He played some variations of these skills, and as brilliant as they are here, this looks like the HS talent show version of what he’s currently up to. Still only a bare few pedals and not relying on tech to make music for him. He’s constantly going upward.

It’s as though ‘The King’ as in B.B., has passed on, and the Kingfish has taken over. What an awesome talent.

For a 17 year old, his playing sounds very very mature. It's as if he's been doing it for 30-40 years. Most young players will just run off some notes fast to sound impressive but Kingfish plays every one with continuity and emotion. Crazy that he only started at 14!

I'm a singers songwriters acoustic player. When I started out I was looking for a style that included pronounced vocals but also solid rhythm and tasty lead lines. It took me a long time. I learned much from the classic bluesmen. That call and response. Vocal line. Guitar line. Vocal line. Adding tasty rhythm under the vocal to keep the beat and groove alive. Thanks for your dedicated work Mr. Pegasus. You are a truly cool cat with no hat.
