Unfortunately, John is currently recovering from an 11.5 hour operation to remove a cancerous tumour in his mouth. He has also had some of his jaw removed. We here in Oz are just hoping he comes through it all and comes out the other side well and in great spirits. He is truly a National treasure. 🤞🤞🤞❤️❤️❤️

One of the world's most underrated singers. He absolutely killed it here in Australia. I've seen him live several times and he just nailed it each time. His vocal prowess is relentless. A real professional who loves his audience. He's one of life's all round good guys, funny man, and true- blue Aussie. Pity the rest of the world went missing. Still pumping it out at his age. John....you're the voice.

mimoocho dom - I had the chance to see him when I was much younger and sadly I didn't go... regret it now. But what annoys me is that america won't really promote australian artists, instead they either steal the song and redo it or just get a famous american to sing it so it makes money for them... They just cut us out of the loop... typical...

This was the finale to the FireFight concert. Very noisy and emotional. Australia had just fought fires like no other. We lost 13 million hectares of land, killing one billion native animals, lots of people, whole towns and our koala population 25,ooo in the only place they were protected against disease.John Farnham has a magnificent voice. The songs on the Whispering Jack album were written for John. And 33 years later , at age 70, he still has an instrument to rival many a younger man today. To hear his voice best, watch his live concerts in Melbourne also on RU-vid. Worth it.

Thank you so much Phil for explaining to others how good John’s voice still is at 70. I watched it live on TV and everyone I know who went to the concert all said the sound was terrible. Earlier on during another song, John kept singing and in a guitar break he said, to one the techs, “I can hear people talking in my ear pieces” yet he still didn’t miss a note. How Olivia sang, I’ll never know, she only did a short piece as her cancer has returned for the 4th time and she’s not well at all, but she still sang and didn’t miss a note. But yes, there was definitely something very wrong with the sound. It was a 10 hour non stop concert and they couldn’t stop and fix whatever the sound problem was.

Yep that was the only thing that spoiled the concert that day. Very poor sound quality. i was disappointed I could not hear Mitch sing in his language clearly or loudly. The music seemed to drown out the performers. It was a shame but still a great concert.

@bernadettelanders7306 3 года назад
@@noelinesmith6846 only bad sound in the concert. I’m only guessing, I remember John Farnham saying he could hear chit chat from people, probably back stage or something, as it was nearly a year ago, through his earphones in last performance. That concert I watched live. It went for 10 hours straight. I think by the end their brains had fried from exhaustion or someone stumbled over one of a zillion cords that did it lol 😂. Only glitch in the 10 hour concert. Last concert big concert we had in Aus before covid hit.

At several points throughout his career he has been written off as a washed up has-been . Fil, I'd posted a link to John's "Youre The Voice" original video a handful of weeks ago as a video comment... not sure if that's what got Farnham on your radar, but nonetheless, welcome to one of the best vocalists who've lived on this earth. Stoked you did this review!! Thank you!

I was trying (badly) to sing You're the Voice earlier on and wondered if you'd made an analysis video as it is so difficult to sing. I'm so glad I found this version of it, it's absolutely incredible, just amazing how great his voice still is. How important it is right now, also, given the current Indigenous voices vote in Australia. As a Scottish lady, it makes me proud that a major hit has a bagpipe solo!

This was the first time he did this, it's was for the fire relief fund, he had an indigenous Australian sing in his own native tongue and it was beyond amazing. Johnny is over 70 here, he's not only a legend but a true national treasure in every sense of the word and a good bloke who they tried to lure overseas many times, he did do a short stint with Glen Shorrock in Little River Band as lead singer but he missed his wife Jill and their two young sons, he wrote and sang "Burn For You" for her, he came home and has stayed. He and Olivia Newton John both started on Australian Bandstand with Brian Henderson when they were in their teens, he sang "Sadie the Cleaning Lady" and I can't remember what Olivia sang.

John Farnham = great voice. You're the Voice = infectious song. With lyrics that are still very much pertinent. Gives me chills every time. That's why Brian is a superstar. :) Fantastic performance. Wish I'd been there.

Incredible, John doesn’t seem to have lost any of his power or range. Of course this song was like a rock anthem when it was at its height of popularity and I’ve heard it many times. But the song really comes to life as a live performance where its energy and scale can really soar. Hearing it on the radio or seeing the video on TV doesn’t really do it the proper justice. The song needs to be unleashed from the constraints of any sort of reproduction. Seeing Fil with the Steven Vai Ibanez brings a broad smile to my face, they could almost be brothers in terms of appearance.

Such a pity Fil it wasn't suggested you watch John on the Chain Reaction Concert (Flinders Park Tennis Stadium) 1990 do 'Age of Reason.' John at his best (voice and presence), sound incredible, and backing muso's (including David Hirschfelder on keys) were just amazing. Shivers on this one - doesn't get much better...

I’ve watched this a couple of times, mostly because it included Brian May. But, it introduced me to John Farnham.. what an amazing talent he is!! Queen + Adam performed at this same concert, recreated their Live Aide concert for the first time since 1985 - it was amazing! Great cause too!

"John has lost nothing of what he used to have" - My older Sister, the big Farnham fan, disagrees: "Where has his golden flowing mane gone?? 😯" 😄 I do agree, though: He was an amazing singer and also entertainer back then and still is now! One of the 4 composers was Chris Thompson, by the way; I was listening to a Manfred Mann's Earth Band song a while ago and noticed that Chris sounds a lot like John in the higher registers, to which a friend of mine commented, "Well guess who wrote 'You're The Voice'!" 😄 Thank you for the analysis, Fil! I'd always believed this was in E-major, too! 🙂

I don't think he's done it for a few years but when he was in the mood, he used to occasionally hit the high F above the C5, it was in falsetto from memory as I dont think his normal voice can get there but still.. definitely impressive

Hello , thanks for your expertise in reviewing this clip. I consider myself lucky because I have been a fan of John Farnham for longer than I can remember. Like a lot of Australians I've grown older along with him. He's amazing , he has a back catalogue that most performers would be happy to have half of. I read alot of the comments, and some are accurate but some are half truths written by people who have too much time on their hands. It's simple, time will tell how great a vocalist he is and for now we should just shake our heads, be grateful and appreciate that we still get to enjoy him. I liked you review and the process you used ennuciate your view. Thanks.
