There's some southern Californians have the "American surfer" accent. People in northern California (NorCal) have a more typical American accent It seems like he loves doing voices.
Linguistically California is changing right now, with some vowel changes and uptalk spreading into more people's ordinary speech. So in fifty or a hundred years they might become the standard California dialect, or even throughout the western US. I hope uptalk doesn't become standard; I don't like it. (Uptalk is raising the final syllable so it sounds like a question.)

@@michaeltnk1135 How much of his speech was surferisms? Also, better weather is relative. if you're from NoCal or the northwest, you may prefer cooler temperatures and more greenery.
It's like when I watch a British show and I think all the British accents are awesome. Then they have someone playing an American and the accent is shit.😆
Ever watch "Sons of Anarchy"? Charlie Hunnam, a Brit, doing that Central California biker accent for how many ever seasons was awesome. I bet about 90% of the audience didn't even know he was British.
It would be cool to see different Spanish accents done this wsy. As in, how Spanish speakers from various Spanish speaking countries vary in the way they speak Spanish.
@Pluto I find it all absolutely fascinating to hear even if I can't understand. I live in a part of the US with Spanish speakers from several different countries so that is the one that sprang to mind first, but I would love to hear other languages accents as well.
I took four semesters of Spanish in college. My professors were Brazillian, Spanish, Mexican, and Puerto Rican and there were definitely major differences lol. I was lucky to get a diverse education though.
This pointed out something I've noticed listening to utubers, as an American, New Zealanders are the easiest to understand. At least outside of North America.
He's the best accent guy on youtube I've seen. Watch his earlier accent videos too; they have some funny things not in this one. His General American was a bit off in the first few words but the second half was right. His Southern US was only two of several southern accents, and I've never heard a real Southerner sound like those, so I imagine they're dialects that shrank in the mid 20th century. Surfer speak has those words, but not all in the same sentence or all the time. It's more some words here and there.
Very talented. I have seen voice coaches that I think did more & closer to accurate. As far as I know this guy in a voice coach. In any case he is pretty good.
I don't think that I've ever called Smeagol "Gollum." Maybe once or twice since the movies came out, but never in reference to the books during the late 1900's.
He did a great job. Dude is super talented! Wish he had skipped the "general African accent." Africa is three times the size of the U.S. with over 50 countries and 2,000 languages. There's no such thing as general African accent, just like there's no such things as European accent or general Asian. I'm not upset with him or anything. I just get annoyed when all of Africa is lumped together like it's not as diverse as other places. Like it's all just Africa and the specifics don't matter. Happens a lot. He did pull out Nigerian and Afrikaans. Should've left it at that lol.
You should watch the video "The Shark in Jaws Did Nothing Wrong - An Ecological Video Essay" by TREY The Explainer. It gives very interesting information about how sharks and ALL marine life as a whole, have been the real victims through history and how Jaws badly portrays these beautiful fish. I love science, especially the ocean, and I love getting this knowlege out there. As a reactor you have not only yourself, but a whole audience to share this video and knowlege with. TREY The Explainer makes great videos about Biology, Ecology, Zoology and so on, and all his videos are very interesting and well made.
the South African accent that sounds more like Australian is just the English South African accent, while he was doing Afrikaans. Afrikaans is mainly a working class dialect of Dutch that split off and evolved on its own, with loan words from various native languages and Malay or Indonesian. my dad is English South African and gets mistaken for Aussie all the time, while my mom is Afrikaans, and no one in the US really can identify her accent lmao. but yeah, since there are two distinct European groups in SA, who both speak different first languages, there are two very different accents in white people there
I've seen this guy's videos before and his impressions are quite impressive. I could poke flaws in some of the the North American ones. (I'm Canadian and was raised in the Midwest U.S. and Ontario in Canada.) It seemed like he was trying to give a certain distinction to the Canadian one while trying to not sound too stereotypical. Canadian raising is a thing, but you have to have a pretty particular ear to catch it. Most people in Canada do not talk with those exaggerated raised "aboot"-like vowels, and he alludes to this fact. Most Canadians live within a short distance of the U.S. border, and therefore tend to sound more like their American counterparts. Ontarians sound like Michiganders, British Columbians like West Coast Americans, and many of which are not that different from each other to the average person's ear. It's completely understandable that we're mistaken for Americans. We come from a similar linguistic tradition. But there are regional accents that you can do from Canada that are distinctive which he can imitate. He could do a Quebecois accent (which is really fascinating and unique). Newfoundlander accents are also very distinctive, though the distinctive accent from Newfoundland isn't as prominent among younger Newfoundlanders anymore. Beyond that and you're getting pretty particular. The Italian/New York accent is quite good, though I think some sounds were a bit flatter than I'm used to hearing in that accent. The black American one felt off. The dialect felt plausible, but the inflection seemed off for some reason. I think that one is tough, because there are a lot of different black voices in the U.S. Black northerners don't sound like black southerners, and upper and middle class black people don't sound like poor black people. How do you really do a "black" accent? A problem with the North American accents is that many of the regional accents are dying. Even in the South, where the impressions in this video were very funny and accurate, there are more people that speak with a generalized American accent. You have to work in New York or New Jersey or Boston to hear one of those accents anymore. You can still frequently hear Southern accents, but it's not as strong or apparent as it used to be. I feel like this will become a time capsule and over time fewer people can relate to the accents being imitated.

Interesting fact is that in Mexico there is no official language, although most people speak Spanish really that is not the official language since apart from this are also recognized other 68 native languages and English as languages within the country.
@@gopher6532 Yeah, with the other 40% being other languages no doubt. Still 10% of India is still ~140,000,000 people, so while not the highest percentage, one of the highest in numbers.
