I'm retired. I worked as a RR. I always asked for a handicapped room at the hotel After awhile, they just gave me one. They are cleaner, because they aren't used that much? They are 3 times bigger than a normal room. They don't cost any extra, they are on the ground floor. The bathrooms alone are as big as a regular room. Always ask for a handicapped room.

I never eat a complete restaurant meal. I even ask for a take home container when i order. I eat what i want tgen take the rest home. Same with refills. I fill my drink at the restaurant, eat my meal, refill before I leave. I have a nice cold drink to take with me. I did motice McDonald's took out their self serve drink stations now...at least in my town. I guess you can ask for a refil, its just not self serve anymore.

20 yrs ago, i was a cashier at Walmart (before the self-service kiosks), and when I scanned an alcoholic beverage, I had to ask for an id or i would be in trouble and voukd lose my job if it was someone undercover testing me. It could either be someone from the store or ABLE commission. Also, if i didnt put the person's birthdate into my register, I couldn't go forward with the sale. Even if they were 90 years old, I still had to id them.

Serious - you do not want any free food from a hotel. Just - fucking no. Don't even think about it. Go to Wal-Mart and buy what you need. 30 years of living in a hotel, even though the one the RR company provided did not serve food, just no? I always clorox wiped the room down, everything, toilet, EVERYTHING? I mopped the floor of the bathroom with my towels, I stripped the bed. The only thing the maids had to do was maybe vacuum and put on clean sheets. I often got the same room, like maybe 6 trips in a row. I wanted it as clean as possible. I carried my own pillow. I had a conductor ask me once if I ever drooled on my pillow at home? Why, Yes? Why? Think of how many people drool on the pillows in a hotel. I bought the front desk girls and maids the large boxes of Cosmic Brownies or Honey Buns while I was at Wal-Mart. That really goes a long ways? They worked a lot harder, for less pay than me. Every little bit helps. i believe in Karma.I will hopefully never stay in a hotel again. Maids actually thanked me, over the years. I am SO happy to be in my own bed everynight after 30 years. No more working 24/7 at all hours. Can learn what a weekend is. What a holiday is. Maybe even learn what an alarm clock is? July 4th was my retirement day. I picked it for a reason. My Independence day.

You guys are just too judgmental. I don’t get why you guys feel that you can say what’s right or wrong. You said one thing that made me think you understood our country. It is choice here our country was founded on this and other personal rights that Europeans just don’t get. It is our legal right to have freedoms. To understand America you really have to live here. After you live here then you can realistically criticize us that’s fair.

I hope we never go metric? It's our way of saying FU to the English. Part of our pride. No offence. The American pride and Independence runs pretty deep. I do have certian metric meausurements I like? 9mm, 10 mm, and 5.7 by 28 mm. If you get my drift.

The ID thing is really funny. We were recently at a restaurant and my husband ordered a beer. They asked him for an ID and he is 73 years old. He just looked at her and said REALLY? lol Of course she told him that she was required to ask him, which (of course) he already knew.

1 Gal = 3.8L...Sadly I only know this because for the longest time all of our urinals in the men's room had it stamped right on them...lmao. Watching you search it blew my mind. I typed in the same thing you did, and got 3.78l as a gallon. I just looked it up, and the US gallon is different from the UK gallon. There is some interesting history on the reason, you may want to check it out.

You have got to take a lot what he says with a grain of salt. Do things actually "shock" visitors to the US? The word "shock" is only used as click-bait and only for affect. I have worked/lived for 20+ years in six countries in Europe and Asia. And I have traveled every corner of the the world. Nothing really ever "shocked" me.

Sales tax laws vary greatly by state. Ohio used to not charge sales tax on food but food was defined. Coke/ Pepsi was taxed. Bread, butter, meat, not taxed. Candy taxed. Also if you get food to go from McDonalds on sales tax. If you get it to eat there, sales tax.

Thank you for actually pointing out how much money servers can make from tipping. I'm sick of people complaining how little servers are paid and relying on the tips. They can be making upwards of $30/hr if they are great servers. If the push to continue increasing the incomes of the tipped person persists I will stop tipping. I'm a little disturbed by the guy saying you can see inside the stalls of the bathroom and see what people are reading. Bathroom etiquette - don't look. Look at the bottom to see if someone is in the stall (none are so high that you see above the lower shins) but, otherwise, just don't look. I'm a woman so I don't know urinal etiquette but I imagine it's a similar idea. Why is it men that I'm usually seeing commenting on this when they stand next to each other and pee?

Yes, diet soda can be bad for you if consumed regularly and in large amounts: Metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes Drinking diet soda daily can increase the risk of metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes. Heart problems Diet soda can increase the risk of heart disease, congestive heart failure, and heart attacks. Stroke Drinking diet soda can increase the risk of stroke by nearly 50%. Gut health Artificial sweeteners in diet soda can alter the balance of bacteria in the gut, which can affect blood sugar control and the immune system's ability to respond to infections. Kidney disease Drinking two or more carbonated sodas per day can increase the risk of chronic kidney disease. Bone health Consuming large amounts of phosphorus from diet soda can negatively affect the calcium/phosphorus ratio in the body, which can increase the risk of decreased bone mineral density. Preterm delivery and childhood obesity Consuming artificially sweetened drinks during pregnancy is associated with an increased risk of preterm delivery and childhood obesity. Addiction Diet soda is addictive, just like sugar, because it alters the sweet-sensing reward center of the brain.

Mikey, I would agree that it's all about personal choice about how much to eat, but we as a society are making VERY POOR CHOICES! It is not right to be as fat as a whale. We need a national fitness renaissance in America, but you know what? Supply & Demand, if people start demanding to eat less food, restaurants will accommodate that and start offering less food for smaller prices. So anyway when non-Americans criticize us for being overweight, I invite the criticism. It is valid. We are too fat, and there is no excuse for it. One way to reduce portion sizes is that when you go to a restaurant, eat HALF the meal, and bring the other half home in a box. In the UK I think the culture is such that getting a to-go box makes you look cheap but in America that is extremely common. In fact we often plan it that way by getting 2 meals we really want, eating some of the food, and bringing the other 50-70% home and throwing it into the fridge for the next meal. That can often be a time savings so you don't have to meal prep especially on a busy day.

Ya, but remember once you move here and you get to your day to day working - and looking forward to the weekends . . you have to wait until vacations to pick your spot to go to....lol. Or of course shorter weekend trips! Honey, I'm 70 and younger clerks have asked me for ID . . when I buy cough syrup! I love it! LOL WOW I wasn't aware of the costs to drive in London or the price of gas! Holy Cow!! In every large city in the US there is a very good bus system that will take you anywhere you want to go within the city....I'm sure you understand there is no way we can have a rail system, etc to cover the entire US! That would be crazy...and costs would be nuts!! Really!

Also only drink diet pop. They also refills on coffee and hot or iced tea. With giant proportions, we just ask for a take home box or the offer it to us. Some call it a doggie bag. And it gives you another meal. So no need to waste it or overeat and I'm a skinny American. We do come in all sizes. So definitely take home your extra food.

Root Beer was created by Native American people from the roots and barks of sassafras trees a long time ago due to fermentation. Over time carbonated water aided in this process now instead and I love it so much personally...

Rumor has it that there is very little option in the US to having a car. In fact, all decent sized cities have commuter trains, buses, taxis, UBER, Airporters, rental cars, etc. And there are national train services, airports everywhere and long distance bus services. But most Americans prefer to have a car because of the freedom of choice, time, comfort and convenience and privacy it offers.

Here in Pennsylvania there no sales tax on food that is not prepared. Restaurant food or prepared frozen meals has a sales tax. This varies state to state. Like you said tips can make a big difference in their take home pay but it's not consistent. And tips are also taxed so it really costs down on the extra in pay. Metric measurements are also in alcohol. Since Covid most Walmarts at least in my area are no longer open 24 hours.

I think they should write a soap opera about the royal family and call it the old and the useless because they really are useless except for maybe bringing in tourists because that's probably one of the main tourist attractions in the uk people sure as hell don't go there to see a big clock And yeah I know that entire comment is one big sentence there's no commas, periods or anything blame it on my Chinese autocorrect that's what typed it out I didn't type it out And you know what's weird ? Unlimited refills comes down to your choices. No one is putting a gun to your head and making you refill your soda. And, no one in this country is going to baby sit you to make sure you aren't over indulging in something. That's YOUR responsibility to use self control. Just because it's there doesn't mean you have to use it. You wouldn't sit at home and drink 64 ounces of Pepsi watching football so why do it at McDonalds...ya know? And Mark is only part right about the dollar menu thing and tax. It's still just $1 if you don't eat in the restaurant. The tax is added if you eat inside. And there are many many people and businesses that use the metric system here. It's just not taught in schools as much as Europe so most people learn it on their own.
