For your question of what would lead to a forfeit - this almost happened this year...the Kansas City Chiefs had their equipment shipped to the wrong state, New Jersey instead of Massachusetts, and if they didn't get it back in time they would have had to forfeit. But they got it back in time and played the game. That's one way a forfeit could happen

Man you're gonna have to watch a full game to really grasp how the game is. Watching top videos or individual highlights and looking at statistics videos like this is cool, but you won't fully understand how a game is played until you actually watch one or even watch the highlights from an actual game. Believe me, most of the questions you have will be answered once when you watch a game or watch a full highlight from a game.

I hope you react to the 222-0 because the story around that game is great. It happened in 1916, so still in the relatively early days of the sport when it was less organized. Things that happened back then, like the 222-0 game, are things that we won't see ever again because of the odd and rather amusing circumstances that surrounded the game then.

A normal touchdown is 6 points. After a TD, you can either kick it in the upright for 1, or try to put the ball in the end zone again for 2. Field goals (what you called a try basically) are 3 points, and a safety (which is when the defense tackles the offense in their own end zone) is 2 points.

Because of how the scoring pieces together like he was showing with those Legos, American Football is a gambler’s paradise. When a team is favored by something like 5.5 points the over vs. under betting gets fun given the sheer number of possible scoring combinations to yield either a 5 point win or a 6 point win.

The defensive conversion is very rare. Basicly after a touchdown when the team has a chance 2 kick it for 1 point or try and get into the endzone again for 2 if the defending team can get a fumble, interception or block the kick and return it they get 2 points. If that happens on any play not on a point after attempt it would be a touchdown and they would get 6 and a try of their own.

Football is easily the most complicated game on the planet. Its like if you were 2 play chess in without taking turns and every piece had a different person moving it while another guy tried 2 create the strategy for the guys moving the pieces. basketball and football is designed to make ties very rare,baseball because its not on a clock is the only sport that says you cant have a tie, the game must continue until one team wins.I cant speak for other sports but baseball is constantly evolving.
@lsuperior

The problem with baseball in this respect is extra innings are much less interesting than overtime in other sports, they should put a runner on second at the start of every extra inning like college.
@hifijohn
@hifijohn 4 года назад
Sorry but that is terrible idea and hopefully it will never catch on, only about 8% of games go into extra innings, and most games resolve in the tenth inning,the idea of putting a runner on second is that he did earn the right to be there.There are other ways of resolving ties, for instance if the game ends in a tie have the team with the most hits win, or the team with more HRs win.BB games are long because they have become commercial festivals and there are far too many batters jerk around in the batter's box, from the moment they get in there they are calling for time which the HP ump doesnt have to grant, watch any old BB game from some time ago, you can go through 3 innings in half the amount to time it takes now.

Please watch the 222-0 video. Actually watch all of Jon Bois. He makes amazing videos covering multiple sports. His “Pretty Good” series is extremely interesting. Also the reason the scoring has gone up is because over time, the extremely complex strategy in football has become somewhat more understood and rule changes increase the advantage offenses have (most leagues in all sports do this to make the scores higher to try to increase the entertaining moments)
@theAhrBee
@theAhrBee 2 года назад
American football is a lot. Honestly, I am a long time Jon Bois fan and tickled by the concept of Scorigami, and my new favorite thing is watching people who aren't raised on American football watch this video. Just to try and simplify things though, I'll say this: There are three basic ways to score on a "regular" play in American football. A Touchdown. A Field Goal. A Safety A Touchdown is scored when you get past the end line into your opponent's end zone. A touchdown is worth six points, and gives the scoring team the opportunity to try for an additional 1 or 2 points (an "extra try"). After the extra try, the ball is kicked off to the team who just was scored upon. A Field Goal is scored, similarly to Gaelic and Aussie rules ball, where you kick a try through the uprights at your opponents end zone. It is worth 3 points, and if you score it successfully, you kick off as before. A missed field goal USUALLY leads to the other team getting the ball at the point where the kick was taken from. A Safety is scored when you are backed up in your own end and a play pushes you back into your own end zone and you are tackled there. You can also give up a safety if you fumble a ball in the end zone and it goes out beyond the sideline (touch line) or back end line, or if you break certain rules that, effectively, are the only way you avoided getting a safety. An EXTRA TRY gives you one opportunity for, effectively, bonus points. The try is untimed, and if you can get the ball into the end zone (effectively 'scoring another touchdown') you get two points. If you kick it through the upright, you get one point. If, via an interception or a fumble or a blocked kick, the defense recovers and takes the ball into the end zone without being tackled, they can also score 2 points. The "one point safety" as it is explained in the video and is on the books is so remarkably unlikely that it almost does not bare reporting on.
@theAhrBee
@theAhrBee 2 года назад
And yeah, he is a creative guy who is just an absolute legendary storyteller who happens to largely tell stories about sport, related mostly to statistical outliers. There is a video on that same channel that is about Barry Bonds and the greatest season of professional baseball of all time (arguably, there's steroid issues, but setting that aside, statistically, its the greatest offensive season in the sport). And a major part of his effectiveness is that he was so good that many teams tried to just not pitch to him. So Jon did a video analyzing how his stats would have been different, in theory, if he never swung the bat. It's absolutely out there. And amazing.

To clear one thing up: When a team scores a touch down (6 points), they have the option to go for an extra point (kick it through the uprights for 1 point). This is by far the most common. The team who scores a touch down also has a chance to go for a two point conversion instead. They have one play to get the ball back in the endzone from 2 yards out. CFL means Canadian Football league. Its the same Basic game, but they have significant rule changes. NCAA is college football. They are much more similar to the NFL, but there are some rule changes there as well.

Scoring opportunities come into play much, much earlier than they actually occur. The number of likely offensive drives left in the game, based on the time left, will drive coaching decisions. This is even more advanced than deciding to go for 2 instead of kicking the extra point after a touchdown, usually done to force the other team to score twice instead of once, or to force them to score a 6 point touchdown with a likely 7th point instead of an easier drive that ends in a 3 point field goal. Good coaches and fans have this score and time math in their head as the game progresses, and use timeouts intelligently to get the last, crucial drive. Bad coaches lowlse track of time, or the number of timeouts they can use to preserve that time late in close games.

Touchdown= 6 points After a touchdown u get 2 options. U can either kick it through the uprights for an extra one point to make it 7. U can also for for 2 where u get a chance from the 2 yard line to get it in again. If u make it that’s two points. Teams almost always kick the extra point because it’s less risky. Some situation call for going for 2 tho. Here is an example... The Vikings are losing to the Patriots 28-20 and there is 30 second left and they have the ball. The Vikings score a touchdown and make it 26-28. Kicking the extra point would be dumb as that would make it 27-28. In this situation the Vikings would go for 2 to try and tie it. Another example where a team would go for 2 is this. The Vikings are losing 19-24 and score a touchdown with little time left. That makes it 25-24. Now instead of kicking the extra point they would usually go for 2 to try and make it 27-24 so that if the team is able to kick a field goal it would only tie it. It’s strategic when u use it if that makes sense. A field goal is 3 points. A safety is when u tackle the opposing team in their own end zone. It’s somewhat rare as usually teams are good enough to not let that happen. Another way a safety can happen is if the offense gets called for a penalty in their own end zone. This also results in 2 points for the defense. Hope this clears some stuff up

It feels like he’s really interested & is just kind of staring at the videos & reacting, but just in the way he thinks we want to hear. It wouldn’t take much for him to watch a couple of games on RU-vid, just to get a general idea of the rules. He’s been doing this during an active NFL season, after all. He often asks questions right after the announcer will say exactly what he’s asking. I don’t know. I guess it feels like he’s not really present when making these & is just kind of going through the motions.

not true. it's a rarely used term but technically - in I dunno what rulebook - the point-after-touchdown is called a try: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conversion_(gridiron_football) it surely must be confusing for someone new to the sport but there are a lot of different names used for the extra point. people call it 'extra point,' 'point after,' PAT (point after touchdown), 'attempt,' and it could be the 'try' or any combination of these with try as well, lol. and to make it more confusing 'try' means something completely different in rugby, aussie rules football, and i think CFL as well.
