What was great about Barry was after he scored, he simply gave the ball to the official and went back to the sideline with his teammates.

Greatest running back of all time. Not debatable. Saw him play live here in detroit. He is not human. We held our breath every time he touched the ball. Even opposing team's offensive players didn't sit to rest when defense was on the field. They stood and watched Barry because they didn't want to miss anything.

defensives worst fears were being 1 vs 1 with barry in the open field, cus they knew they were going to be on a highlight reel, and not in the good way. also not mentioned much about barry was the fact he very seldomly fumbled the ball. he had excellent ball control

In 1988, I saw him play a college game against a very good team from the University of Nebraska. His statistics were preposterous. For frame of reference (for the benefit of British fans who don't know the game well), a very good day for a college running back may look like this: 25 attempts 150 yards gained (average 6 yards/attempt) 2 touchdowns Barry's stat line looked like this: 34 attempts 366 yards gained (10.74 yards/attempt) 6 touchdowns His team actually lost by three touchdowns... Like I said, that was a very good Nebraska team. It was nevertheless, the most ridiculous display of sustained athleticism I've ever seen. At the game's conclusion, Sanders received a full throated standing ovation from 80,000 Nebraska fans who all knew they had just watched a legend at the top of his form.

Barry Sanders was 5 feet 8 inches tall & he had a long smooth stride for someone with that hight & he ran a 40 yard dash in 4.34 seconds .

He was the bestsest, most enjoyablest dude to watch! There could literally be a Part Two that would rival 80% of these runs. 👍

I’m a Lions fan, grew up watching him. He is the best to ever do it. I did get to see him live in one game, that the Lions lost(they weren’t good for a long time, glad that’s changed), and we still love him! During the draft in Detroit, he was one of the personalities that helped open the draft, and the entire crowd was chanting his name!

I used to watch him every week, as a Detroit native. He was unreal. That last run against Dallas... it's hard to see here, but when he breaks out of the pile, one Dallas player is literally standing there as Barry runs past him, well within reach. I remember watching it live, and not understanding how he escaped. Three other thoughts: He wasn't that incredibly fast by NFL standards, he was elusive. He could change directions incredibly quickly, so they couldn't get a good hit on him. Some say he retired early because he knew that as he got older he'd get slower, and the hits would pile up. Also, one of his blockers mentioned once how hard he was to protect: a hole opens and closes in a split second, and Barry would often dance around, rather than just plowing in. So the hole would close before he got through. So he was not a great runner in short yardage situations... he often got tackled behind the line, while Emmett Smith would just pound into the hole, and gain a yard or two. Different styles, and that's why it's tough to debate who was "better". Finally, I remember reading that when his peewee team had their first game, his parents chose to watch his older brother's game on another field. They figured he was 9, and had never played before, so he'd barely see the field. Someone came running over to get them, because he was tearing it up. So even at that age, nobody could catch him. Sadly, I think he played football because he was so incredibly talented at it, and not because he enjoyed it that much.

Sanders was 5'8, 91 kg. He retired in 1998. He played for my team, the Detroit Lions.

when i was growing up Nike had a shoe comercial congratulating a defensive player for being able to open field tackle barry by himself!! true story!!! he was that good!!!!

Barry Sanders is the Greatest Runningback in Pro Football History. Everything you just watched was Sanders operating behind the Worst offensive line in football. He was only able to move the ball because of his ability to change directions when the holes closed

Realistically Barry Sanders is the greatest NFL Football player of all times!! If interested I’ll explain why!

Barry was the best running back to ever play... and he was in our (Packers) division so we played him 2x per year. He had the best moves, acceleration, vision and power of any Rb in my lifetime (1984). No one besides Michael Vick has ever accelerated like him.

You want to see records just get annihilated , watch his college highlights. He avereged 246 rushing yards per game , over 300 all purpose yards per game and 3.4 TDs per game, by himself ! Yes you read that right. Did I mention that he put up those numbers in 11 games and sat out the 4th quarter in 8 out of those 11 games. Incredible.

As a non-Lions football fan in the 80's, there were no, more dreaded words to hear, than "Draw to Sanders".

Sanders was amazing. Walter Payton was even better. When Sanders retired he was one seasonfrom breaking Payton's rushing record for most yards in a career.

Sanders quit with a lot of gas in the tank. He could have broken every RB record in existance but that oboviously never mattered to him.

Check out Walter Payton ! Held the NFL record for most career yrds, 16,726.. And did this on a bad team . Another old school RB like Barry 👍

These aren’t even Barry’s best runs. Highlight reels pick the TD runs and big yardage plays, but most of Barry’s best runs went for 5-10 yards. 8:46 Plays like this would happen five times a game where Barry would get hit behind the line of scrimmage and somehow recover.

Sanders retired in 1999.

Paid good money to see him. Twice. 11/10 would spend good money again.
