One of the excellent details in the series, is the imagery shown whenever Rupert is on screen. He absolutely radiates Sith energy, by his features, the lighting and wardrobe, and the set designs. Check out the scenes with Nate in Rupert's office - the dark lighting, and the circular window behind Rupert`s desk, are right out of Palpatine's throne rooms. Once you see it, you can't unsee it!

It does not move me. Even though I've seen the movie.. Ironic thing - here in Atlanta, we just sold a contract for one of our original "homegrown" academy products - to Chelsea!! 🤣I think they're going to loan him out first, but he has had a bunch of minutes on the first team here. Yeah, I know it's just MLS, but seeing another American field player going to UK/Europe makes my heart sing. We're getting better!
Yes! Many layers! In re-watching you will catch so many details, and you'll see those callbacks and catch more references. For me, each re-watch further cements the quality of the show on so many levels, including the music. Your continued reactions and thoughtful comments are such a pleasure.
I agree on all points, this series rewards re-watching so well! Each time through it reveals more nuances in the performances, in the screenplay, the dialog, the cinematography, you name it. It also reveals a few defects occasionally, but they are so few and minor they're trivial. Overall, a masterclass of episodic storytelling, character development, drama, and comedy. Even the cultural contrasts of US, UK, and EU are handled brilliantly.
There are a TON of specifically KANSAS CITY references in the show that even American viewers from other cities don't usually get. You may or may not know, but Jason Sudeikis is from Kansas City, and grew up in the suburbs of KC (on the Kansas side...but only a about a mile away from the Missouri side, as KC is in both states). He actually grew up only a few blocks up the street from me. Sudeikis is also a HUGE Chiefs and Royals fan and went to the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS (about 40 minutes from KC itself). He and other Kansas City celebrities (Paul Rudd, Rob Riggle, Eric Stonestreet, Heidi Gardner and Dave Koechner [who is Todd Packer in The Office btw lol]) all put on an annual celebrity softball game called "The Big Slick," where they bring more celebrities and raise money for Children's Mercy Hospital. Some of the specific KC references in Ted Lasso: Ted's "Joe Arthur Gatestack" shirt in the pilot and throughout references Kansas City Barbecue joints of Joe's KC, Arthur Bryant's, Gates BBQ (EDIT: I forgot to add, Jack Stack!)...all legends in the BBQ capital of the world - Kansas City. His Three KC shirt that celebrates Lawrence, Kansas and the Jayhawks. Arthur Bryant's BBQ Sauce shows up a few time...and is referenced as the greatest BBQ sauce in the world (it's not even the greatest in KC ;) ) Ted mentions the Price Chopper grocery store chain in Kansas City. Ted derogatorily mentions the Denver Broncos - who are long time rivals to the Kansas City Chiefs (especially in the 90s and early 2000s when they were more successful...quite different than today lol) Ted wears a Kansas City Current shirt several times. The KC Current is the women's soccer team in KC that just became the first team in the world to build a soccer stadium specifically for a women's team. Part owners of the team are Patrick and Brittany Mahomes. 80's Kansas City Royals' outfielder Amos Otis is name dropped by Ted. The Wizard of Oz is referenced as you mentioned. A pinball machine in the pub is also a Wizard of Oz pinball machine. "The Sunflower" is the state flower of Kansas. Ted mentions Brookridge Elementary School - his real life elementary school in Shawnee Mission, KS. Ted mocks the Westboro Baptist Church, which is really just members of one family from Topeka, KS, who are known worldwide for their anti-gay protests using signs with slurs and hateful sayings. They got international attention in the early 2000s, but are mostly seen as a sad joke now...as Ted reinforces. The Kansas City Sines hat is a fictional baseball team hat, referencing Jason's best friend, Chris Sines. There are more, but this is a good start :) The only thing I have to say to these reactions is... Barbecue Sauce!
Here in Atlanta, KCTV/KSMO's parent company had us running broadcast operations remotely from here. At the time, they still had the broadcast rights to Sporting KC games. I was always assigned to work them because I was the only soccer fan working there at the time. One thing I never figured out was whether Children's Mercy Park ("Sporting Park" back then) was on the KS or MO side of the border. I know I could look it up, but I'm retired, I'm bored, and would rather talk to real people instead of an algorithm. And even this old Southern Boy has to admit..KC does BBQ as well as anywhere down here. 😆
@@panamafloyd1469 Sporting KC used to play at Arrowhead Stadium which is in Missouri, the stadium that you mentioned which is where they currently play is in Kansas
There were a few Chelsea fans unhappy with the Roy Kent sign in the stadium. It's originally a tribute to Ray Wilkins, and editing the sign was seen as disrespectful to Wilkins' memory.
If anything Beard and Ted say to each other sounds any bit out of place, it's a quote or reference. Watching this with my mom, 80s movie buff, was GREAT
Zava was based on Eric Cantona from France, Polish striker Robert Lewandowski and primarily, Zlatan Ibrahimović of Sweden The actor read Zlatans book for reference and watched documentaries on him
Saw an interview with Brendan Hunt on a pundit's program. Asked him about whether or not the character was based on Zlatan. Hunt said, "..I've been advised by our lawyers to say he's based upon several players." 🤣 Another little "Easter Egg" for US fans of the game - Higgins said Zava wanted to move to the UK because Z's wife liked a UK TV show. I still claim that the only reason Becks played over here was because that Spice Girl he married wanted to live in Los Angeles. MLS created a new rule for league play where clubs could break the salary cap for 'designated players'. We still call it the "David Beckham Rule".
Talking about comparisons to real footballers...Zlatan was absolutely the first person to come to mind when Zava goes "it's an honor for you to meet me" Also, I think there's a lot of Jack Grealish in Jamie's look/character
Here is my first time of what will be every week till Episode 11 begging you to let a particular scene run for the full scene. You'll know it when you see it. There are clips everywhere so hopefully it's allowed for your channel. I'm not saying about what or even with whom. Just do it :)
Brendan Hunt has said in interviews that Zava is based not just on Zlatan, but other prima-donna footballers, and gave the other example of CR7. You'll see more of Zava, but I'm not spoiling anything to say that I don't really see Ronaldo in that character, really just Zlatan with a few new-agey details tweaked.
