Hell, Inbetweeners is one of my favorites as well and I'm a 20-something year old from the Midwest of the US. It's just something I discovered a year or two after I graduated high school and serves as a macrodose of nostalgia (reminds me of my friends and I in high school) while being paired with wit and banter that's hard to beat.
I remember doing my DofE. As Will said, there are multiple modules and there are several tiers as well. If I remember correctly (and it has been MANY years and may be different now) in each tier you had to do some sort of outdoor activity (Expeditions), some sort of community activity (Service)and then there was "Skills" and "Physical Recreation" but the last 2 were pretty vague and I cannot recall what the options were. They probably were worded differently but that is more or less accurate. In the first tier, the Bronze Award, the activities are fairly simple. I went camping in the Forest of Dean and did some local "orienteering", and then I went and volunteered at the local Primary school, I was supposed to supervise the 8/9 year olds on their break time (volunteering in the local OAP home was an option but NOBODY wanted to do that, lol). For my Skills module, no joke, I opted for "Music Appreciation" (Oi! It's an important Skill, alright!). I also did a St. John's Ambulance "essentials of First Aid" course (all I remember from that is, every time the instructor turned their back to the room, everyone inched their chairs slightly closer to them until, eventually, they turned round to face the room and we were all sat REALLY close, lol. Nobody took it seriously). We got totally lost in the Forest for our expedition module and ended up just getting into a random person's vehicle and dropped off at the campsite (which I'm pretty sure is an instant fail in itself), where it was already dark and we couldn't set our tent up properly. It was hilarious but a bit of a disaster. I then went to take break time at the Primary School and I got beaten up by the entire playground and then asked to leave for not being able to control the kids. Finally, for Music Appreciation, I basically sat in the common room listening to my favourite music and saying "I really like this one', lol. You're supposed to fill in a book every time you do an activity and have it signed off by the Instructor with a small report - I NEVER got mine filled in regardless of whether I actually did the activity or failed miserably. As far as I recall, being a total, abject failure, I don't think I ever achieved my Bronze award even, which is supposed to be pretty much impossible not to get. The Silver Award is a little more difficult to get, you actually have to work for it, lol but the Gold Award is pretty serious from my recollection. People undergo genuine expeditions and stuff. In hindsight it is a great, worthwhile thing to get involved in, but as a 14/15 year old boy mucking around with his best mates constantly, I was never going to take it seriously
Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award is kind of similar to the say an Eagle Scout, but not as long term and not associated with any specific youth organisation. It is based upon a program started at Gordonstoun where the Duke of Edinburgh went to school. The school also founded the Outward Bounds program. There are versions of it in many other countries.
From what I remember there’s the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze, Silver and Gold awards, I think you do bronze and silver in high school and Gold later on (not sure about that). There’s different parts to it, like the volunteering part you have to complete (hence the old people home), activities like sports club and then then the mountaineering one where you go camping for a few days. Funnily enough, I did all of that in school for bronze around 2015 but nobody in my class got the certificate for it 😭 ps. I’m still waiting for my certificate and award, king Charlie 😅
DofE is three awards Bronze silver and gold. each one gets progressively harder you have to do volunteering a sport and a skill and then go walking and camping. for bronxe i think its a 1 night camp and for gold i think its 5. you have to do a certain amount of volunteering which gets progressively harder throughout the awards. Also im pretty sure that Philip the former DofE created the award based on activities he had to do at his boarding school in scotland. Also if you complete Gold DofE traditionally you go to Buckingham Palace to meet the DofE which is now Prince Edward i think.
@@RobertTaylor-gz2fu Because people like employing people who have shown they can do something as opposed to people who can't. Particularly if you are faced with a stack of applications from school leavers.
@@paulmidsussex3409 The DoE tasks aren't useful to many employers. Camping, rock-climbing, working in an old people's home etc. aren't much use if you're applying to work in a shop, office, factory etc.
@@RobertTaylor-gz2fu I have employed people before and I still believe people like employing people who have shown they can do something as opposed to people who can't.
I say if part of the point is to teach her some britsh'isms you should be able to call each season a series. Does she not know seasons are called series in England or does she's just hate it because it makes her think it's almost over everytime you say it?
