TY again jmantime for all the videos youve posted as they cover alot of equipment that is rare or practicaly unknown to many viewers. Perhaps you could cover some of the classes of naval vessels of WWI & WWII, possibly start with the lightest ships up to destroyer class, then mid level ships & end with battleships & carriers

Caernarvon is post ww2 , black prince is a downgrade from Mk VIII , Centurion is also post ww2
@chazt8604
@chazt8604 7 лет назад
How is the Black Prince a down grade from the Mk VIII, the Mk VIII wa a 95mm howitzer armed close support version while the Black Prince was a 17pdr armed gun tank with better armour anD capabilities than the 75mm MV gun armed Mk VII. Centurion Mk 1 just missed the fighting in Europe by one week, WW 2 was still going on though as Japan did not surrender for several more months. Now it did not see combat durig WW2 but neither did tanks like the US M6 or British Covenanter - both designed and built during WW2 but never saw combat (athough a few Covenanters were used as AVLB's out of over 1500 built).

The hardest part of all the tanks was the tracks. They were the only parts that were made from hardened steel by the carburisation method which made them black and rust free.

@Maus5000

The footage and photos for the WWI tanks are all over the place. In the Mark I section you have a photo of the prototype Mother (which is NOT a Mark I), as well as film footage of Mark IV and V* tanks. Similarly the Mark II section shows film of a Mark V, and the Mark IV one has a Mark I in it. The Mark V section includes a Mark V** which is really a totally different tank, and not all tanks shown are composites/hermaphrodites as the title claims. The Mark VI section includes a photo of the original Mark V mockup, and the Mark VII and VIII tanks are from 1918, not 1917. That's not even talking about the inter-war and WWII tanks. I appreciate that you included a lot of tanks, photos and footage not commonly known, but these are serious errors that have and will continue to confuse and mislead people.
@CarlJacobsen
@CarlJacobsen 7 лет назад
The title says British _Monster_ Tanks of WWI & WWII, but the first 13+ minutes is a laborious list of basically _every_ British tank of WWI, before finally getting to some experimental designs of unusually large size from after WWI and during WWII. :-/

Where's Mark A,B,C,D series, Churchill Gun Carrier and Churchill AVRE?
@Maus5000
@Maus5000 4 года назад
Mark A-D are medium tanks. This video claims to only feature heavy tanks - but misses the Churchill variants you rightly mentioned, and many more
@alganhar1
@alganhar1 7 лет назад
Well, that pretty much proves us Brits did not come up with a really good tank till the end of the war. Fine, so the Churchill in some of its varients was fairly decent, and it was surprisingly mobile for a tank of its weight, and was able to go places even medium tanks were unable to go because of its design... but it was not the equal of a Tiger say. And we also had the Sherman Firefly, with that superb 17 pounder... But it was not until the Comet, which was a stopgap... and most importantly the Centurion that we actually got things right! Stil, I guess we learned... Tortoise was actually a very good gun platform by the way, it was never used but it was tested, my fathers uncle was one of the testing team (one of the mechanics, not the crew). Would have done its job very well... shame that by the time it was built its job was already done!
@BrewBlaster
@BrewBlaster 7 лет назад
As an American, here is how I see it. It was your gun in our Sherman that made it (IMO) the best Sherman in WWII and your powerplant in our plane that made the twice as good without it. Great teamwork i'd say.

The Churchill tank was born out of a British WW1 specification as a mud bogging infantry support platform designed to slowly advance through heavily defended (fortified) terrain, similar to what the Matilda Mk.I and Mk.II were designed for. The only difference between the two tank models is that the Churchill was able to adapt a much larger gun mount than the Matilda could, which was only able to house the 2-pounder gun. As an actual main battle tank the Churchill was garbage, which is why the British decided to give up their failed philosophy of "cruiser" and "infantry support" tank doctrines. The Sherman Firefly (also known in British service as the Sherman IC, or more commonly Sherman VC - depending on the base Sherman chassis used for the upgrade. Sherman IC was based on the M4A2 with a 17-pounder, and the Sherman VC was based on the M4A3 with a 17-pounder) was a great tank destroyer. It's only drawbacks were very low accuracy and low rate of fire because the turret was too small to house such a large gun. Despite all of this it was a highly respected panzer killer due to it's gun mount. The Cromwell was a decent tank overall, but in 1944 (when they actually saw service) they were not much better than a Panzer IVH or Panzer IVJ in terms of protection and fire power. The Comet was the best Brit design of the war but never saw any combat except for a victory march through Berlin in 1945 when the war was over. Either way it had a short barreled 17-pounder with the same armor as a Mk.IV Cromwell. Nothing special. Good thing British finally made a decent tank, calling it the Challenger II after all these years.
@BigMrSox
@BigMrSox 6 лет назад
I don't believe any Centurions were fitted with the 32 pounder 94mm gun as far as I've read. The Centurion had the 105mm L7 which was generally more powerful and versatile than the 32 pounder.

We Invented the tank. The highest chance of death in a chieftain was if one of the gauges broke because it contained radioactive material, yes the tank was that good. Churchill tanks could stand up to Tigers and win. Either a salty German who's mad that they started a war they didn't have the balls to finish or just a fuckwit
@Robsham1
@Robsham1 7 лет назад
WW1: We were basically the only nation to successfully use tanks on a large scale as we invented them, no contest. WW2: There were definitely some bad tanks mid war (early Churchills, every cruiser until late Cromwell/Comet); but the Matilda was one of the best tanks in the world at the start of the war, and by the end of the war we had already designed Centurion which I would say was the best in the world at that time. They were certainly better than the American Pershing and the IS-3/T-34-85/T-44 with which they were contemporary. Cold-war to present: We have later model Centurions, Conqueror, Chieftain, and Challenger 1/2; all world class in their day.
