Never watched this race until now and I was gutted as well. KS is my favorite rider, as a kid in the states we never got to see these races until now, we just read about them and saw the pictures and video highlights if we were lucky.
In Wayne Raineys biography, he stated that his practise crash left him with concussion and no depth perception, so the only way for him was to lead, as he couldn't judge what anyone in front of him was doing. Credit to him though, as while he wasn't thrilled when Cadalora passed him, he said he didn't blame him😉
bonehead move by a superdoosh, unless you are competing for the title you do NOT block your teammate, you canbet Marlboro chewed him out good, dood prolly destroyed his career on that move.. you just don't do that , in reality you block for him, run screen, he took the points lead right out of Rainey's pocket, what an idiot
I tried it and didn't like it. The armour clothing made me too hot, helmets are cumbersome and they're too dangerous. One mistake and you could end up dead or in a hospital bed.
I was there that year, never missed the GP or WSB rounds for a long time, Great racing massive crowds and if you camped it was mayhem with bottle fights, naked women riding around on bikes or just walking about, fireworks in the shape of huge rockets often fired at police choppers, vans on fire, dutch madmen firing a football out of a milk churn, the list is endless. Feel sorry for you youngsters lol
I watched some of the Joey Dunlop onboard footage from back in the day at the IOM recently. The camera he had on the bike was like having a watermelon strapped to the tank. Not sure how he even rode it. 😂 Technology certainly has come a long way.
It was irritating me the one announcer continued to say Mike Doohan instead of his actual name Mick. And the other announcer even said 'Mick' and the other guy just couldn't get it...lol.
So very rare to hear old race lessons anymore, I went to several Race Schools and I had a former National Superbike Champion as one instructor and that was some of the advice / wisdom he handed down,...and it is true and it works,...." In Slow / Out Fast", thanks for sharing your wisdom,....I raced for 10 years after going to School,....even the slow racers are damn Fast!!!
@@jonoedwards4195 Yes, it cut out through fuel starvation. In his book ( Foggy, ref page 179) Fogarty states that " I had run out of fuel. It was probably due to my style, whipping up the throttle as I changed down the gears, which had used up more fuel than normal."
I remember this just like it was yesterday and it wasn’t as the maggot talking head was saying, in fact it was a mechanical failure placed squarely on the Mechanics as Doohan had no brakes which he discovered while braking. These races were so much better when Daryl Eastlake & Barry were calling them!
you prolly dont give a shit but does anyone know of a trick to log back into an instagram account..? I was dumb lost my login password. I would love any tips you can offer me
@@CP-kb1du it ain't fact because you can't prove that Kevin would have beaten Wayne if he didn't crash out. With that said many races and even championships have been won because the leader or contender crashed out. In the end it's just a fact of racing.
Goose bumps watching King Carl on that Cagiva, still one of the best looking bikes ever in motoGP-racing. I'm sure if he would have had the chance to prepare himself more into 500cc two-stroke racing and working with that team, he would have had a good chance to win this race.
@@donjohnson4723 British Superbike left the rest of the World behind for years, best racing ever, You have the best circuits and Nutcase Riders. Same for most Domestic Series, AMA has gone down the Dunny too.
@@jonoedwards4195 I can't comment on British superbike, but unless the manufacturers find a way here in the USA - and that means investing money, and effort to get more kids riding - there aren't going to be more American riders any time soon. The average age of a motorcycle rider in the USA is 50, and rising. It's a huge problem. The safety-mom ninnies won't let their precious babies ride in the dirt, let alone race. I'm doubtful that electric bikes will make any difference as they'll be too expensive, and let's be honest - even starter dirt bikes are $4-5k now! AMA is nothing but a shell of its former self.
@@joshuamervis Look at European countries, they pump out Juniors with amazing skill and the same in South America, Australia has some good Youth programs but the costs are worse than the States. Electric power is so Depressing, Hahaha, four stroke was bad enough!
25 years later and the pole time is just under 7 seconds slower than the current WSBK lap record. Very impressive considering how tire technology has come along. The extra grip alone is worth this time disparity. 500cc two strokes rule!!!!
@@ianmangham4570 When You get a chance to ride Vintage bikes You can't believe We went Ballistic on them back then, You remember how quick They turned an how well They stopped? They Didn't,, Hahahahahaa!
@@carlosoruna7174 0% chance. 2000, 500cc pole time 1:32.3, WSBK pole time 1:32.5. 2001, 500cc pole time 1:31.9, WSBK pole time 1:32.6. With modern rubber, you'd be looking at a pole time of mid 1:30.
@Jeremy Robertson No that's the 250cc Twin. Mine is as above RG500 Square Four, one of the last made no 873 of the CH Models, with improved gearbox and other refinements. Suzuki never released a road version of the RGV 500 Race Machine,
Geez, I could buy a pretty nice dinner if I could have a dollar for every time they said "rostrum." I can't say I've ever heard the word before today, I've only heard "podium", or maybe I just never paid attention. All that aside, it's cool to hear all the familiar racer's names from when I first got interested in motorcycling, which would be '90 (had posters of all the super bikes, multiple moto mag subscriptions with all the stats memorized, and I'd flip out like a Beatles or Elvis fan when any of the big 4 were spotted on the road), got my first motorcycle in '93. I still ride year-round (no car by choice) with only two minor hospitalizations. Like the old saying goes: "There are bold riders and there are old riders, but there aren't old bold riders." Be safe out there kids. You wanna ride like these guys (or feel like it), buy a track day and leave the racing there, not out on the street.
That was an intense championship battle: Kevin crashed in practice (after having set a pole lap that was a second faster than anyone else) and fractured his wrist which harmed him for the rest of the season because his hand got numb after some time (he later on admitted the injury didn't come from the race incident). At the same time, Wayne had highsided in practice and banged his head so bad that he had no depth perception and couldn't pass anyone on the race track. None of them said a word 'cause they didn't want to give the other rider a psychological advantage (not even Wayne's team was aware of the situation). Both were far from being ready to race, but both went for it. Simply because they couldn't live with giving it away to the other one. Amazing competitors! :)
Such a shame that Carl Fogarty had that issue. To be able to ride that bag of shite and have a podium (if not for the fuel mishap) with practically zero experience is very impressive indeed. Niall gets a lot of praise but I think Carl was a little more talented and could have won in GPs. Is there another rider since Fogarty that’s been a world champion that’s won the TT or road circuits?
Butterfly wings, eh. If you really think about it, had Doohan avoided this accident Wayne Rainey might also not be paralyzed. Not that I'm saying it's his fault at all that it happened to Rainey. Just funny how one bad thing inadvertently might cause another.
bad move by plate #7.. he had 2 locked, I bet Marlboro really chewed him a new one muchless the club master.. man he took the GP points lead from the his team mate, what a DOOSH! any wonder we never heard from that dood? you just don't do that when you're not competing for the title, you let your teammate get those crucial points.. dummy. the title lead is psychological.. good grief
Rainey was a beast !Had he not been injured during this 1993 season he would have won more titles and Schwantz wouldn't have any...he won this year after Rainey's career ending accident,
If Doohan hadn't knocked Schwantz out of this race Kevin probably would have been on the podium, and maintained his pts. lead. Therefore Schwantz probably would have been leading the points at the time the Rainey crash. Not Kevin's fault Wayne crashed later! Schwantz might have won the title in '94 if not for a nagging wrist injury, I bring that up since you made excuses for Rainey!
Did Schwantz get injured badly? Boy it looked bad, it looked like the bike came down right on top of him and he wasn't moving initially. Well, actually, all three looked they got tossed pretty hard, yikes...
Yes. Broken wrist amongst other things. Spoiled an otherwise flawless year. If it wasn't for Rainey's even more horrible crash, it would have cost him the championship. Doohan's massive fuck up is a bit like a butterfly effect before a cursed year of MOTO GP. Hard to believe a rider like Doohan could do something so dumb...
@@jameskohlermusic And he was last off the track (seriously hurt),,shithead barry nutfuk did not aknowlege how hurt he was,and the camera crew focus in on doohan.....what a load of WANKERS
sixonesix I don’t understand how he managed to complete a full wind down lap after the chequered flag if he was running out of fuel on the last corner?
Was there .92 ,hated how everyone cheered all these non British riders,i felt patriotic,,but how wrong i was when young. I totally respect all these men, every race of them, they were the days of hard men,200MPH? I always felt a science was lost when they killed 2 strokes
Let's be fooking right , foggy just needed a full season with testing and all the other guff and he would've be a force 👊 if he'd managed to secure a ride people would've said how lorenzo rides like foggy 👊
What drugs was Steve Parish sucking on that day?? Foggy apparently went from adjusting his forks preload at one point (pretty sure you wouldnt do this while racing) to adjusting his rear shock, again is that even possible while riding?? Ive never heard of a rear shock adjuster on the handle bars! I would say he was more than likely adjusting hus front brake.😂😂😂
13:47. A comment my wife sometimes makes to me applies to Doohan here. “What were you thinking!!”. I still hear Kevin bring this crash up during interviews after retirement.
