Never really seen this special, genius player that some thought Higgins was, he's not even the best Higgins to play the game! Let alone mention, Steve, Stephen & of course the very best in Ronnie...

You're right, he wasn't as good as them but he was the one that changed snooker. If it wasn't for him I doubt it would've been anywhere near as popular as it was it the 80s.
@paulhighe7615

@@digeme69 I know all that, but he pressed the self destruction button too often, Barry Hearn didn't want him anywhere near Matchroom... & you can see why

@@paulhighe7615 Agree again. I once asked him for his autograph at a venue when he wasn't playing. It was at the Wembley Conference Centre at the interval of Griffiths and Werbeniuk in 85. There was no-one near him so all he had to do was sign the programme which would've taken 5 seconds. Instead he said to me "later, later" and walked off.🤣

Doug winning the 1988 UK championship when his career appeared to be in terminal decline was one of the greatest achievements in snooker.

That pink at 18:20ish was amazing by Alex and proves his notorious pot on the blue in 1982 against Jimmy White was no fluke!

Only Alex would have potted a pink like that, total crazy cue action but box office brilliant to watch.

Higgins wasn't THE greatest player of all time ( he was one of them - I'm not knocking him) but he was certainly the most charismatic - look at the journalsists at the end of the film - they are eating out of the palm of his hand - most of them came to the tournmenats just to see him and what he would say afterwards

Some pretty dreadful MIDI music....surely ITV could've produced something better than that. The intro's a bit naff as well. Cracking game all the same but weirdly muted for 1990 - the audience barely even coughed! Weird to think it's been a year since Doug passed away. Time sure does fly

The greatest entertainer of the game without question- without Higgy there's no whirlwind or Rocket. Simply magnetic, the greatest influence on the modern game. R.I.P The Hurricane.

Another big match he threw away - he needed to be on top of his game to beat Reardon in the 1970s.

There's an interesting point in frame 8 where Higgins stops the pink going in the pocket with his hand and Doug gets to play from the D. Something similar happened between Graeme Dott and Mark Selby and Selby thought he could play from the D but was penalized
