You're right, he wasn't as good as them but he was the one that changed snooker. If it wasn't for him I doubt it would've been anywhere near as popular as it was it the 80s.

@@paulhighe7615 Agree again. I once asked him for his autograph at a venue when he wasn't playing. It was at the Wembley Conference Centre at the interval of Griffiths and Werbeniuk in 85. There was no-one near him so all he had to do was sign the programme which would've taken 5 seconds. Instead he said to me "later, later" and walked off.🤣

Doug winning the 1988 UK championship when his career appeared to be in terminal decline was one of the greatest achievements in snooker.

Rocket would have made it still, his hero growing up was Steve Davis.

Another big match he threw away - he needed to be on top of his game to beat Reardon in the 1970s.
