British Rail InterCity 1991-Kings Cross/St Pancras with Class 47 & InterCity 125 HST 

St Pancras today you've got to squish up at the barriers miles from the train wait and then scramble for tiny seats in a mad rush. Horrible.

Sleepers on the ECML ended in May 1988, so the line could be closed at night for electrification work. All sleepers from Kings Cross to Scotland were transferred to Euston and the WCML from that date and, apart from diversions, have never returned. Did Bounds Green maintain WCML sleeper stock? That's the only reason I can think of why it would have been there as late as 1991. PS I saw a shunter in Bounds Green not that long ago, 2-3 years perhaps, so maybe they still have one to this day?

Yes, it was mid afternoon, the set arriving was ECS. There were 2 commuter loco hauled sets that ran on weekdays, Up in the morning, and Down in the evening.....

@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus The same 68xx coaches were also used on commuter services on the ECML to/from Kings Cross to Grantham and Peterborough. They were rakes of ten coaches, 8x 68xx TSO's plus a FO and a BFK, hauled by 89001, a Class 90, or a Class 91 (blunt end first when going south!) These ran until late 1992 when they were replaced by Mk4 trains.

@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus I think the loco hauled services from St Pancras thinned out soon after you filmed this in 91, likely because ECML electrification cascaded some more HSTs to the Midland line. One evening diagram did soldier on to 94/95ish I think, then it was cancelled, then briefly re-appeared for a bit. St Pancras of course did remain quite important for parcels trains even as late as this.

@@miniroll32 it had just been idling for a long time at the Cross.... The London end power car is shut down but the country one is left running to provide power to the trailer cars.....

Yes, St Pancras drivers signed them, and used them on the Cricklewood-Forders Sidings bin trains.....
