Another West Country vid now, Exeter St Davids in June 1989. there's some nice HST Valenta thrash on this one along with an 08 shunting Cartics, 50s on NSE Expresses, a 47 Cross Country Inter-City working, an odd DMU and a pair of Cromptons off light engine possibly to Meldon Quarry. If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

I made a couple of visits to Exeter in the early 90s. Brings back some nice memories, thanks for sharing.

That was a brilliant clip you put together so far Soi. The HST's The Class 50's even the Class 08 Shunter. Plus the Cromptons one of them being a 33/2 "Slim Jim" the 12 units built 7 inches narrower specifically to suit the tight fit tunnels of The Hastings Route. The tracks of which have been singled and those tunnels were a headache for Railway Officials for decades that's for sure.

Yes, Exeter was a good spot for a bit of everything. I remember staying there for a couple of days in 1992 and stayed out filming until 01.00 or later! I have the Plymouth-Glasgow sleeper on film and an accident damaged 33 009 being towed in from Meldon Quarry where it had had a shunting mishap!

@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus absolutely. I always looked forward to getting to st David's as a child back in the 80s on many trips to paignton. Seeing the mix of traction was by far better than the seaside trip lol. Keep them coming if you've got more!

There are fewer nicer sounds than a 16CSVT (or, in retrospect, a Valenta, although I thought they were b****y noisy when they were around.)

I like a bit of thrash myself, and the Valanta's had plenty compared to the MTU engines. All EE engines are great but for sheer 'beast' power nothing sounds like a Deltic in full cry! I rode behind a Hymek D7076 on the West Somerset once and even tough it was low speed it made some pretty impressive sounds. I can only imagine what they were like on the main line at speed!

Lovely immaculate infrastructure. The Pway men of yesterday must be turning in their graves at todays mess.

Network Rail or Railtrack both haven't got a clue what they are for! Railtrack from day said they were a property company, they didn't quite get the bit about all those trains running around getting in the way of them making property deals! And Network Rail believes's it's an engineering company so makes sure all those shiny bits of metal stay together (which is better than R/T's p**s poor efforts) and bugger off aftterwards leaving a mess behind. Because the way BR was dismantled (it wasn't smashed, the professional railwaymen/women took it apart bit by bit with all the legalities nice tied up for each bit, which shows you how good they really were considering the complexities of BR) there is now no-one in charge of 'The Railway' ! Unlike in London say, where although the bus services are provided by private companies the network is controled by TfL, fares & timetables set by them. There is someone in charge to oversee the system. At the very least that is what is needed with the railways....BR Board MkII anyone?........

Soi Buakhao indeed Soi. Oh for working for the railway when it was run by people who knew what they were doing!
