Boney M and Milli Vanilli were both produced by Frank Fabian, a German singer-songwriter. Boney M was also only lip-synched by actors who never sang the songs. Frank Fabian himself was the singer of Boney M. Milli Vanilli had the same concept with other singers. Unlike Boney M, this was not openly communicated. That was actually the scandal.
There are several Austrian artists in this list, such as Falco, DÖF, Opus, Reinhard Fendrich, Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung and others. So, it's not really a list of German Music of the 80ies, but more a list of German and Austrian music of the 80ies.
The German producer, composer and singer Frank Farian from Boney M and Milli Vanilli passed away the day before yesterday. RIP † January 23, 2024 in Miami.
Actually, Falco (Rock me Amadeus, Jeanny,, Der Kommissar) was Austrian, not German. But he was a huge success in Germany too. I think Reinhard Fendrich is Austrian as well. Quite often Austria and Germany are seen as one, because both speak german. But its 2 different countries, just as the UK and the US ar, although both speak english.
Music culture definitly very separated in the 80ties. Falco, Fendrich and EAV are born out of Austrian culture and are staples of Austrian pop music, as is Opus even though their main hit "Live is Life" is in English. DÖF is more comedy than music and is mostly forgotten today. But singing in German and aiming for the German market through German labels, they certainly got their wider success through making it on the German scene. But only Falco acchieved real international recognition, making it into the UK and US charts with the English versions of his songs. Opus had quite some success with Live is Life, making or even topping the charts in many European countries and even breaking into the US billboard charts top 40ties at the time. EAV is too comedic niche and mainly had their audience in the German speaking market (with Germany being the more important market for them for quite some years). And Fendrich really is mostly an Austrian thing, going as far as being responsible for the inofficial Austrian anthem.
Austrians are also Germans, but they live in a separate country, for several historical and political reasons, they were not united with other German lands (although Hitler, who was also an Austrian, managed to do so for a short time).
Several of these you may have recognised because they were international hits which also charted in the UK and/or USA: "Ein Bißchen Frieden" ("A Little Peace") - Nicole. This won the 1982 Eurovision Song Contest. "Da Da Da" - Trio "Der Kommisar" - Falco "99 Luftballons" ("99 Red Balloons") - Nena "Big In Japan" - Alphaville "Rock Me, Amadeus" - Falco "Live Is Life" - Opus "Brother Louie" - Modern Talking All four songs by Milli Vanilli "Bring Me Edelweiss" - Edelweiss Boney M also had several hits in the UK, but not the ones in this compilation.
I have to apologize, not every German was listening to this xD Falco was from Austria, he was a BIG one 🖤 RIP Alpahville is Wave and Goth approved, so go one 👍
There was one Girl Band in the 80s, that had a massive impact on music scene esp in the UK, till today! X Mal Deutschland, formed as an all girls group, they were top! not in the "normal" charts, but in the Goth and Wave Scene in Germany and the UK! Check them out!
@@philippepiotrowski5351 I hope my bad Spanish from school is good enouth to translate....mis amigos! Of course! please excuse me! BUT! the spanish Scene still loves all the 80s and 90s German Goth Bands. And I love that!
Sorry, but Falco is from Austria, not Germany, though German is the language of Austria. Same with Rainhard Fendrich (and that song Macho Macho was about my mother-in-law's best friend's son).
Boney M. were founded and produced by the german producer Frank Farian who died in January 2024. As well as Milli Vanilli. "Ein bisschen Frieden" won the european song contest.
How some allready wrote, the name of the org. Video is wrong these are not german Songs, these are Songs from the "Dach region"( Germany, austria and schwitzerland ) there are german and austrian Songs ( don't know if even Songs from switzerland)
Since you can only conquer the international market with English, German-language titles remain intended for the national market and hidden from the rest. By the way, FALCO is coming, from Austria!
Bruce & Bongo are a British pop duo and The othe Ones are from the US. I think this represents the list of the most successful songs in Germany in the respective years, but it is by no means all German artists or songs produced by Germans.
Bruce and Bongo were stationed in Hanover, Germany with the British Army at that time. In Germany, they were confronted with the many uses of the word “geil” while learning the German language. This gave them the idea of recording a dance song with the inflationary use of the word. The Other Ones were an Australian/German band, based in Berlin.
Watching this compilation as a German, I really have to say that whoever did that compilation definitely chose the biggest piece of junk that the German music scene produced in the 80s.
