And he gets a jersey with "Mr. Irrelevant" on the back. This year's Pro Bowl was an actual flag football game. The NFL made the smartest move in years, canceling the Bills-Bengals game. No one wanted to play.
Which is given that name because prior to Purdy they were fairly irrelevant. Only a couple played more than one season and many never even made the team.
With the Seahawks, Russell Wilson played for Seattle for his first 10 seasons in the league, won Seattle a SB with the LOB as well. So he's a huge part of Seahawks history. But last off-season we traded him to the Broncos and had to play the broncos week 1 in Seattle. The game was close and the head coach for the Broncos didn't call time outs correctly and made bad decisions late in the game to make the broncos lose. He didn't trust Russ to win them the game and instead put it on the kicker to win it, he didn't. Geno is like a 11 year vet that only started one season, and played absolutely amazing last year when he got his next chance to start, which is why he said "they wrote me off, I ain't write back though"
@@DNReacts to add a little context, Geno Smith was a moderately hyped prospect coming out of college (high 2nd round pick) that failed pretty miserably with the NY Jets who drafted him. Despite a good chunk of that failure being the fault of the Jets being a dumpster fire, he was labeled as a bust and bounced around the league as a backup. Last year in Seattle was his first opportunity at being a starter since the Jets days and he took advantage of it on a much better Seattle Team. Hence the "they wrote me off" comment
@@DNReactsThe other missing context is that Brandon Perna (That'sgoodsports), the maker of this video, is a Broncos fan, so he's generally not all that pleased about the results of the trade.
Damar Hamlin is actually a full participant so far in training camp, looks like he'll be on the field once the season starts. Truly a crazy story. I live in Buffalo, and the day after that game everybody was on edge
14:20 Geno smith is an older quarterback who was never respected as a quality starting qb. So he got the starting job in Seattle after they traded Russell Wilson, and Geno finally got to prove himself. He actually had a really good year throughout.
@@DNReacts Geno made his first ever Pro Bowl after playing for a whole decade, just a good dude that was always a backup after having a rough start here in New York for the Jets
@@Pete_FinchThat WV team he was on made me love football, Tavon Austin, Steadman Bailey, etc. It was sad to see all of them flame out in the NFL, seeing him suddenly go crazy after so many seasons as a backup was insane lol
It didn't help that he was drafted by a team who hasn't drafted and developed a good qb since the late 60s. Honestly. If he would have gone somewhere better for his development he could have done this his entire career. But props to him either way he's been a good professional and never complained and just took his chance and made the most of it. He's someone you definitely root for.
Pew pew pew That’s Gooooood Sports! Glad you’re checking out Perna. Him, Tom Grossi, UTree - all great football RU-vidrs. Grossi just finished a cross-country road trip visiting all 30 NFL stadiums in 30 days to raise money for charity. He raised over $500,000!
Love that a Perna video was picked. His stuff is awesome and quite funny, but the jokes kind of require more knowledge of game sometimes to get. Also a huge Broncos fan, so when it comes to them, he gets more invested.
7:45 the draft works so that the worst team gets the first pick in the next draft. It is seriously frowned upon if you purposely lose every game in a season just for a good draft prospect, but sometimes it needs to be done. If a team is already having a terrible season, sometimes the best strategy is to blow the rest of your games this season to start rebuilding for next season, however, don’t expect job permanence between the players and the coaches doing this strategy
Brandon (the guy in the video) is a Broncos fan. In the offseason the Broncos, who for the past 4 or 5 seasons haven't been able to find a quarterback, finally decided to go all in and trade a bunch of picks to the Seahawks for Russell Wilson. This was one of the biggest trades in a while. Wilson had been a very good qb for the Seahawks and it seemed like the Broncos finally had a guaranteed good quarterback. This left the Seahawks with Geno Smith, who has been in the league for a time. He never lived up to his initial hype and became a backup. The Broncos wound up having a lot of prime time games due to the hype of Wilson. The Broncos ended up doing really badly this year and people were left with watching a lot of really bad football games in prime time because of the broncos playing in them. Russell Wilson regressed a lot while Geno Smith had an outstanding comeback season that nobody expected.
Lovie Smith knew he was getting fired when the season was over so him going for 2 to win in regulation was sort of a “fuck you” to the Texans front office
Oh another point on Hamlin! His injury was due to a direct hit to the chest with a helmet! Stopped his heart! It's more common in MLB due to the ball and the speed it comes back off of the bat, but also hockey and lacrosse!
Thank you for the comment and the suggestion, really appreciate this, will check it’s on the watch list. We run regular polls on our Discord for all members to have a say in what videos we do next if you’re not already on there 🙏
As a big fan of ThatsGoodSports (shoutout fellow Pernographers) this was great to watch. I have a lot of input but I’m sure everybody has already answered any questions you may not have understood. My one piece of advice is checking out that Falcons-Panthers game. It was a WILD ride, even though I’m a Panthers fan and got the short end of the stick.
Perna is a Broncos fan, division rival of the Chiefs. His point of view is frequently skewed because of the currently 15 game, 8 year losing streak to my Chiefs. It's basically how Chiefs fans felt about the Broncos for most of the 90's, 2000's and 2010's. His channel is great, very funny dude.
I know I've said this to you guys in the past, but Dan Campbell the Lions head coach is probably the coolest most likable coach in the league (especially because of all the weird and crazy shit he says) 😂 His players really started buying in during the middle of last year, can't wait to see what they can pull off this year. Also, I've got a video recommendation for you guys if you really want to test your NFL rule knowledge: it's called "NFL 'Knowing the Rules' Moments" and it shows players using super obscure rules that most fans and even players don't know in order to get ahead in the game
23:30 sauce gardner is a beast, as someone that went to school with him he's a great guy and an insanely good player. Defensive rookie of the year last season, miss him being in Cincinnati
you’re right about tanking. Players and coaches don’t do it because it’s not even guaranteed that they’re on the team next year. but. front offices sure try sometimes lol
Nice! Brandon Perna (ThatsGoodSports) puts out high quality content. Glad to see you blokes reacting to one of his videos. P.S. Brandon is a Denver Broncos fan and bitter enemy of the KC Chiefs lol. It's quite entertaining to watch.
First off, as a chiefs fan I just wanna say I love Brandon Perna, and I’m so glad you all are reacting to his content. He does awesome reviews, although he is a division rival that has some animosity towards the chiefs, as the broncos have lost 15 straight games to them, and it has been over 2600 days since the last time they beat them. So when he’s talking about the chiefs, keep in mind he’s always letting out a bit of frustration 😂
Fun look back on the season. Certainly a lot of names but I think all of the characters in the NFL is part of what makes it so great. Hope you fellas enjoy the upcoming season 👏
13:33 Brandon Perna is a Broncos fan and the Seahawks traded their QB (expected to bring Broncos to playoffs) to the broncos. After the trade Broncos had a horrible season and Seahawks made playoffs without Russell Wilson
On the Tua thing, it wasn't team doctors that cleared him, though they could have prevented him from playing, but that would've been weird since the person that cleared him was the independent doctor. Independent, meaning not affiliated with the Team/League and not affiliated with the player's association.
Also Damar Hamlin, the guy who had a heart attack on the field is in fact back practicing with the team. IDK to what extent or physicality but he does plan on playing in the 2023-2024 season
Lovie smith was the coach of the bears in the early 2000’s, and the team he was coaching informed him before the last game that he would be released after the game after 1 season as the coach. Im not saying he won the game on purpose but he’s a Chicago Bear for life
Great recap of the 22 season. Looking forward to a exciting season and some unexpected surprises. Russell Wilson will bounce back, and Joe Burrow will win MVP. Neither the Eagles or Chiefs return to the Superbowl. Niners vs Bengals SuperBowl. Bengals WIN. (Not even a Bengals fan but Burrow is too good to keep losing to Mahomes.)
every year before the season the nfl does a top 100 list, it’s not always the best list but it can show you guys 100 of the more notable players in the league
Been waiting for this one since i saw it win the poll. ThatsGoodSports has been making videos since 2013, and always inserts his brand of humor. Very good recap of the season though im sure it was difficult to understand without prior knowledge. This is the type of video that will pay dividends when the season starts and youre like 'oh i remember that situation last year, they're doing way better now!'
You guys are so amusing. I have enjoyed watching while you learn all about American football. I am, and always will be, a Falcons fan, but as they never fail to disappoint I have adopted the kc chiefs as my team the last 3 years. Mahomes and company are so entertaining, and he's the best QB I've ever seen. So I am subscribing to your channel so I can watch as you experience your first true football season. I hope you enjoy it and I know I'll enjoy watching y'all. Welcome to the fun, excitement, stress, and full body contact of the NFL.
Thank you, we really appreciate the support 🤝 We’re so excited for our first season! Good luck for the season, and Mahomes is my favourite current player too (Damo)
It's just so refreshing to see people who are new to American sports learn the culture, rules, and history of them. It'll be amazing once you guys have a solid knowledge of everything down the road and we will have had to chance to see the whole journey. Such a unique channel that's so fun to be a part of. Keep grinding fellas!
Re. The discussion around 8:30, You can't tell the players to lose, they're playing for their next contract, but coaches do tend to give their best players the week off in situations like that. Teams will also trade established players for younger players that are worse now in the hopes that they'll not only be good later, but also lose a lot in the meantime to get top draft picks.
13:55 I think it's just that Russell Wilson's first game with his new team was against his old team, the Seahawks, and everyone was really excited to see his "revenge" (he didn't want to be traded), but then the Seahawks won in a rout.
not sure if it’s been said yet, but at about the 22:30 mark, that was not derrick henry. that was texans rookie running back dameon pierce. he’s a hard runner and has a bright future ahead of him
When I saw the title, I thought you guys must’ve been talking about this up coming season & forgot you guys came in during the Championship games! Can’t wait for this season to start! 🦅 Philly had to keep ‘greasing the poles’ because the city was going absolutely insane with the Phillies & Eagles run!
@8:00 the league won't punish the team for losing, but like you said the players want to win or more specifically stay employed. So while the owner, the GM and coach(not the coach in this case he knew he was getting fired either way) may want to lose to secure that better and in this scenario best pick in the draft the players especially fringe roster guys want to show out so they can still be in the NFL next year.
the hold in the super bowl was the correct call. somewhere in the past decade a lot of people have developed this logic that any sort of officiating at the end of the game is the result of fixing. they call foul play in every game, it's a bit exhausting.
Dan Snyder was the owner of the Washington Commanders. He just recently sold the team, but he ran the team into the ground after he bought them in 1999. He’s was one of, if not the most, hated owners in the NFL.
It helps if you understand that Brandon Perna (the man speaking in the video) is a Denver Broncos fan who does a lot of RU-vid videos. Some of them involve Tom Grossi, Urinating Tree, and a couple of other guys who all have their separate RU-vid channels but have also combined forces into a Clickbait Sports channel they all participate in. The Seattle Seahawks traded Russell Wilson to Denver in the off season last year for a bunch of draft picks, including Denver's first round pick in 2023, tight end Noah Fant, and quarterback Drew Lock (who, although he was a starter for the Broncos, talent wise is more on the back up level hence why Denver was trading for a different quarterback). Denver then signed Wilson to a massive contract extension that would make it impossible for the Broncos to trade or cut Wilson for at least three or four years. Wilson then went out and had by far the worst year of his career. There were analysts picking Denver to be a Super Bowl contender at the start of the season and they went on to become, along with the Raiders, Colts, Texans, and Browns the laughing stock of the AFC. Meanwhile everyone immediately wrote off Seattle as a team in the middle of a rebuild. Geno Smith, who flopped in his only starting quarterback role with the Jets early in his career, went on to win Comeback Player of the Year and make the Pro Bowl after spending about seven or eight years as a second and sometimes third string quarterback who hardly ever played until last season. Seattle went on to make the playoffs. Broncos fans have a tendency now to get very butthurt whenever this trade gets brought up because Wilson's contract makes it impossible for Denver to trade or release him so unless he regains his form they are going to spend the majority of the rest of the decade fighting the Raiders to stay out of last place in the AFC West. At the time the trade was made Wilson was considered to be the missing piece that Denver needed to get over the hump in their division. Now the trade looks like it is going to be a contender for worst trade in the history of the NFL. In summary remember two things about the discussion of Russell Wilson in this video. 1. Bronco fans are very butthurt over this trade. 2. Brandon Perna is a Broncos fan.
Teams will 100% throw a game or a season for draft placement for rebuilds. Not so much by throwing the ball into the ground on purpose but making the game unwinnable. Usually they do this by handicapping the roster by either trading away all of the big pieces or just simply sitting the starters. Similar to Man City sitting the majority of starters vs Brentford at the end of the year. The day your team is out of contention for the play-offs all focus shifts to the draft.
Big competition news coming up soon around this. Won’t be a Draft because we want everyone to have the chance to play but we’ve got something planned 🤞
So Russell Wilson was our quarterback in Seattle for ten years after being the fifth QB picked in the 2012 draft due to his height. He went on to be the greatest Seahawks QB to ever play and one of the best QBs of the 2010s, helping the Seahawks win their first championship along with a team filled with superstar players, just walloping the Peyton Manning led Broncos 43-8 after a season where Denver had had the greatest offense of all time. Before the 2022 season, the Seahawks traded him to the Broncos for a massive haul of draft picks, defensive lineman Shelby Harris, and the Broncos' QB Drew Lock. The national reaction to this was that the Seahawks had blundered big time and they were going to be in the running for the worst team the following year. We'd just sent away a potential Hall of Famer and in his place we had the guy Denver was happy to get rid of and Geno Smith, a guy who had come into the league a decade ago and been a giant bust for the Jets before spending the rest of his career as a benchwarmer. Geno Smith wins the job, much to the amusement of the national media who now get to point and laugh at the Seahawks for trading for a QB they aren't even starting, as if they had traded Russell Wilson purely to get Drew Lock, give me a break. Well, the season schedule gets released and look who's playing in the primetime spot in Week One, it's Russell Wilson's Broncos going into Seattle to play his old team. Emotions were running high that week to say the very least. It's a really exciting game. Russ isn't spectacular looking in his first ever playing time with a new team but he does what he needs to do only to be undone twice by his running backs fumbling right on the goal line. Meanwhile, Geno Smith is having a pretty good game for himself. It comes down to a late game drive by the Denver offense and the Broncos have 4th down a little bit into Seattle territory. Now Russell Wilson has made his career in situations like this. I can't tell you the number of times he's engineered a miracle drive in the closing seconds of the game to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. So what does Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett do? He takes the game out of the hands of the big name QB he traded a king's ransom for and attempts a 64 yard field goal attempt. For context, 64 yards is the longest field goal ever kicked in NFL history, and it was done in Denver, about the only place such a feat is possible due to the thin mountain air they have there? In Seattle, with that heavy sea air blowing in from Puget Sound? Forget about it, you'd need divine intervention to make that kick. Well, the kick is missed and the Seahawks win. Geno goes on to have a great season and lead his team to the playoffs while Russell Wilson has the worst season of his career by a country mile.
The bigger issue with the hold was that calls like that had been missed all game and while it is against the rule referees generally are lenient so that the players can just play the game… So when a holding call that wasn’t called all game, gets called, right at the end of the biggest game of the year, when that came is extremely close coming right down to the finish, and that call basically hands the win to one team rather than just letting the players play the game it’s incredibly frustrating to see… It’s like watching a murder mystery getting right to the end only to have a friend spoil the ending right before the big reveal, all that hype, all that excitement, instantly dies and leaves you feeling incredibly unsatisfied… So yes it was a foul, but for the sake of letting the game play out naturally it shouldn’t have been called… That foul reset the Chiefs downs and so all they did was sit there and run the clock out, it was an incredibly underwhelming way to end an extremely exciting game…
Josh Allen also had his second UCL injury and played every game after. It wasn't as bad as his first, and apparently he doesn't need "Tommy John" surgery, another baseball reference for pitchers especially and QB is a pitcher, basically! For Allen he could still throw deep, but it effected his short game. I believe almost to the point that he only wanted to throw deep because it did not hurt, or he ran
I hope not as a lions fan. I do think he’s being massively overhyped though considering he barely threw for 2,000 yards. Definitely could breakout but I saw CBS put him on the same tier as qbs he has no business being with as of right now.
@pinkyorbobber he had the worst wr core in the league with the worst passing oline in the league and his 1# wr was injured for 6 game and his #1 rb was injured for 5 what fo you want him to do?
Fun fact I played against Brock Purdy in highschool it is was Estrella foothills vs Chandler highschool I played on defense as a cornerback and I'll be honest he was that MAN in highschool but I didn't know he'd be a pro and have this success plus I'm a 49ers fan
For context, the Denver Broncos have been horrible the last few years and it’s mainly because they haven’t had a good quarterback since Peyton Manning retired. So they traded for Russel Wilson who was one of the best qb’s in the league like top 5 at the time. Then the broncos decided to not play him in that first game against his old team which was just terrible coaching. The broncos went on to have another terrible season🤣
Loved this guys & your comments! From Andy's love of burgers, the intense waiting for Demar to be o.k. & finally the big win...the season full of twists, turns, stupidity & greatness. The AFC is much stronger than the NFC, so this this next season should be pretty interesting. When I lived in the U.K., I became a bigger fan of football "soccer" & rugby. I lived in Scotland though, so I won't say which teams I supported. Sports is universal & can a great unifier...except cricket...I don't get that game at all. Getting ready for college football now & my beloved GATORS! GO GATORS & for NFL GO CHIEFS!
13:50 Russel Wilson wanted to leave seattle the team that drafted him where he won a SuperBowl. It was a bit of an ugly "breakup" if you will. Russel was a legend in Seattle, he got traded to Denver and the first game of the season was in Seattle. Russel played in the game but he lost, and there were a ton of bad plays and missed opportunities. Russel had the worst year of his career overall, and the Seattle Seahawks used the draft picks they got in return for Russel extremely well, improving the roster tremendously and still making the playoffs despite losing possibly or even definitely the best QB in their franchises history.
Also sexually assaulted a bunch of women, sued an 90 year old fan because she was late to make one payment on her season tickets that she’d had for decades… That man is just a piece of shit…
You guys should check out Kyler Murray. He got injured this year but hes a great dual threat Qb.( He was the one who ran around the raiders defense). 🔥🔥
Hamlin has a long road ahead of him but the team and staff have his back! He will get a chance to prove himself! He had to step in more Micha Hyde game 2 of the season! He was very important and his injury out the Bills at safety #3 in that position! No wonder the Bengals torn the Bills apart, not to mention the Miller injury. The Bills may get him back week 6
Hey the reason he gets upset about mahomes or grinds his teeth when he talks about mahomes, is because his team the denver broncos. Who are in the same division. So the chiefs have cut his heart out a few times.
Plus the fact that Mahomes has never lost to the Broncos & is currently 15-0 against them. I can totally understand. It’s all in fun, though I’m sure Brandon would love to see him traded off to an NFC team, lol.
Brandon Perna is one of the greats in the sports-RU-vid universe. He just did a fantastic video on why he hates (but respects) Patrick Mahomes so much.
Other than Kansas City winning the Super Bowl, nothing about this season made much sense. It was so unpredictable, I think the only thing people would've been unsurprised about if you told them before the season was that KC was going to win the Super Bow, and even then there were question marks with Tyreek Hill leaving.
About the russel Wilson thing, the Seahawks traded the best quarterback they’ve had in decades to his favorite team. That amazing quaterback then proceeded to throw less touchdowns than Wilson has bathrooms in his house
Love the content as always boys, keep it up! As a Bills fan, again, I know the end didn't look good last yr, but the injury bug got the Bills last season. They still did very well with the advertised depth! But it ends up being too much at the end of the day against the elite. Still, 13-3 with of course the Hamlin game, they lost by 8 points total! I respect both teams that made the Superbowl and the teams that lost in the conference finals, but a healthy Bills team last yr would have probably taken it. I believe they got better in just about every place except LB, and QB because Allen is top 3 and we like the #3 in Buffalo! The secondary is coming off of injuries but we have a solid back up at all positions again. Very tough schedule this yr! 2/3 of the season is against top tear QB, but I believe they'll stay strong! 👍
Hey, thanks for this. We have completed a reaction of Justin Field’s 2022 Season Highlights. Unfortunately the NFL blocked 🚫 the reaction and we cannot upload to RU-vid. We have added it to our Patreon where there’s a ton of content we’re unable to put on RU-vid.
Thank you for the comment and the suggestion, really appreciate this, will check it’s on the watch list. We run regular polls on our Discord for all members to have a say in what videos we do next if you’re not already on there 🙏
Dan Snyder is the owner of the Commanders franchise and he's well-known for being pure evil. He's probably the closest thing to a real life James Bond villain.
14:11 they did start Russ. But he didn’t play as well as he used to (also the coaches were stupid) and Geno smith (the Seahawks qb) played very well dispite being “written off” by all the fans
Russell got traded to Denver and he played against his long time back up and lost in his old home stadium. They had a chance to go for it on 4th and 5 to beat Seattle but they tried a 64 yard field goal and missed.
Geno smith was the QB for the jets and he didn’t do so great so the let him go and after serval season he found hisself in Seattle and was looking really good
For the first time in over 60 years, Motown is rocking. Honolulu Blue & Silver will mean trouble for challengers for years to come because Detroit is building an impressive culture as opposed to the poop they delivered since their championships in the 50's. Go Lions!
I love Perna, but UrinatingTree does the funniest season recaps. Re Seattle & Denver, Seattle traded one of the top-ranked NFL quarterbacks (Russell Wilson) to Denver in the off season. Everyone thought Denver would be great. You might call the Broncos season a travesty (unless you're a Chiefs fan like me. Then you eat popcorn and think, "Yeah! Take that for making us suffer through Elway & Manning!"). That ... didn't pan out. Perna is a huge Denver fan, so expect some snark and color when he talks about it.
