I think it’s important to clarify that the Nobel Peace Prize is not awarded by the Norwegian government. It is awarded in Norway, but by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which is part of the Nobel Institute. Many dictatorships often misunderstand this distinction, which can sometimes complicate diplomatic efforts for the Norwegian government.
The Nobel Prizes (Nobelpriset) are five separate prizes awarded to those who, during the preceding year, have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind, as established by the 1895 will of Swedish chemist, engineer, and industrialist Alfred Nobel, in the year before he died, Prizes were first awarded in 1901 by the Nobel Foundation. Nobel's will indicated that the awards should be granted in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Peace. A sixth prize for Economic Sciences, endowed by Sweden's central bank (Sveriges Riksbank) and first presented in 1969, is also frequently included, as it is also administered by the Nobel Foundation. .
The committee members are elected by politicians, so the prize is therefore political. Too many of the awards have been given based on pushing politics and agenda that is close to the political parties that elected the members. I think the criticism is relevant.
Jante-loven is a satirical invention by Danish-Norwegian novelist Aksel Sandemose, but it IS true that Nordic societies are egalitarian in comparison with most other countries and we do not tend to be submissive.
@@erlinggaratun6726 Yes, jantelagen as we call it in Sweden is meant to be sort of a caricature of the Scandinavian society, as far as I've understood it.
I once was teamed up with a foreign exchange student from France when we were going to learn how a statistical computer system worked. I tried and tried again. He became more and more irritated with me, then I started to ignore him and talked to my friends instead. I mean he did not even try to find a solution. Until this meeting I did not think anyone could be so bad at collaborating. Look at eurovision that shit is still running becouse of nordic chairmen through the last 30 years. I mean I blush when i see this video, that is in our DNA becouse you can't just going about blowing things out of proportion here, they have to be true. And truth is always somewhere inbetween. Recently us Swedes had to pathetically bow to two authoritiarian regimes, Turkey and Hungary. becouse we wanted to join our sibling Finland in NATO. We have been a haven for kurdish opposition against Erdogan, a certain organisation. But now (becouse we want the so called protection from NATO) that organization has been deemed to be a terrorist organisation here as in other countries around the world. So we have had to hand some of them over to turkish courts. Now the small opposition against Erdogans criminal regime have become even smaller. But hey a potential war with Russia is way more dangerous than a real internal war in Turkey where civilians will fight the authorities. We know how pathetic these suitwaring paranoid little men are. The swedish government even let Erdogan have his parade has if he had won, that was part of the deal were individuals and NATOs life changed forever. But he got to say to his citizen what he alone all on his own had achieved.

The reason why Russia lost winter war was because their army size was only 66.7% bigger than Finnish army and there is unwritten war rule that army size must be over 75% to quarantee victory in war. I think one of the historical reasons why the Nordic countries have developed "a mindset of their own" is that feudalism never really gained a foothold here in historic times. "Common people" have always been a bit freer and had more rights vis-a-vis the privileged classes , i.e. church, nobility and royalty. Maybe this is something that has survived since the Viking Age 😉🤓🤔. To answer one of your questions: No, there have never been any "dictators" in any of the Nordic countries. At least not in the meaning the word has today. There have of course been more or less autocratic kings, but in these cases the autocracy has been directed more towards the nobility than towards "ordinary people". During the Second World War, Norway had a self-proclaimed "leader" named Vidkun Quisling, but he was mostly a puppet completely subordinate to the Nazi Reich Commissioner Josef Terboven and Hitler. Finland was during the 19th century a part of the Russian Empire but actually enjoyed quite a bit of autonomy unlike the rest of the empire.
in a Danish civil war the King deliberately promised more rights to the independent freemen farmers to give him more authority over the other nobles, at the time of "absolutist Kings".. and in modern times although he was expansionist and embroiled Denmark in problematic foreign wars to little benefit, his increased control over the Danish state while not upsetting the independent freemen farmer class ensured a boom in population increased taxes and large scale infrastructure projects, which made the King even more famous and sort of "set-the-model" for "Nordic enlightened despotism" until the 18th century.
We are still 'cousin tribes', no real change since the iron age. there are even remnants of 'tribal awareness' in our various local cultures and dialects. We have the same royal families as 1200 years ago. But being king is more of a duty than a privilege, and that has been among the decisive factors, in my opinion.
Thank you for your kind words good sir, we used to have kings and queens with total power, that is a form of dictatorship, but that was waaay back in the day, when everyone else also had that form of power structure, I always laugh at it when dictators call us puppets to the west, bitch we ARE the west, but I promise that I will dwell on it next time I'm in my hottub, drinking that cold Carlsberg and look at the nordic lights in the sky, atleast for 4 seconds, can't give you more than that I am afraid, I am to busy being happy and free.

Why is the flag of The Faroe Islands there. It’s not a country, it is one of three self-governing areas in the Nordic region. The Faroe Islands and Greenland belonging to Denmark and Åland belonging to Finland. Either all three should have their flags there and you explain that they are not countries, or you only show the flags of the five Nordic countries.
The so called Nordic model can not be implemented in a country unless its population is homogeneous, disciplined, highly educated and of course without any inner conflicts between groups of people/different regions. Even in Scandinavia now the populations are changing so they won’t be able to keep up the model for much longer as it’s not sustainable.

Well, healthcare is as good as free, and education is free. Yes, it's financed by taxes, everyone knows this, but you can also come from a no income family paying no taxes and still get a university grade just like anyone else. So, I like to put it this way, education is free, earning money is not.

Being criticised by Kim Jung Cruel are a badge of honour we take pride in. When The boycotts of the South African apartheid regime finally let to Mandela´s release, the first three nations he made official visits to, to personally give thanks were the Scandinavian nations. Denmark are right now the nation that have donated most to Ukraine per capita and rest of Nordic nations, minus Norway are in top ten.
@@mbc1994 No. I would hope you were correct but you are not. Per capita Norway are somewhere between number 9 and 14. Per percentage of country GDP Denmark have donated 1,8 and Norway, 0,5. That´s actually around same as our entire military budget as it were around 3 years ago.
And history will show that Denmark did put all out money on the wrong side regarding Ukraine. Our proxy war with Russia will go hot within the next year. Denmark are cutting down on schools and services for the elderly so we can send billions to the most corrupt country in Europe. And that is a fucked up idea. Chine had in the past a project of trying out if they can affect a country by doing different types of social/diplomatic/political pressure. And they chose Sweden for that. Part of the "battle" against China was done in comedy, most visibly in "Svenska nyheter" (a TV show made by SVT, which is kind of like Brittish BBC). There's even been jokes about the Turkish president. He tried to silence it by telling the Swedish government to stop it. When the government didn't, he thinks that it's the government that is doing the show - because it's how they operate. These dictators cannot grasp the idea of freedom of expression. And of course, since they are trying to manipulate everyone, and have their own puppets, they think that all other countries are like that. Which makes me believe that if they have laws against "foreign agents" - it's exactly what they are doing.
I am actually sitting at a 15 min drive from the steep valley with the waterfall at 11:01. I suddenly realized: that's here! my own village! Cool, man. Welcome to Norway :) Video is correct, actually, though we do of course have all the normal problems people have.
Many portrayals of life in the Nordics are not quite right, in my view. We're not so free and happy as we would like. Our politicians, also, tend to want to compare ourselves against others, like that is some kind of excuse not to improve things. Still, what we have is clearly better than what many others in the world has, and totalitarian states are the worst of the lot.
well all the nordic countries were kingdoms before they became democratic. We all have kings and queens, now they're apolitical because they're not allowed to influence politics at all. they're given a "salary" from the government to be able to do their things and in general, the vast majority of Denmark (can only speak for my own country) love the royal family. Though when that is said, yes the monarch used to "dictate" everything in the country, just like every other country that had a king or queen in power back in the days. we have like 700 years or so, with absolute monarch power, so we are all "used" to being under a ruler. However our political system now doesn't make it possible really, to have a dictator because of the way our system is run. You dont vote for 1 person to take power at an election, you vote for Many parties, that then have to work together, and the party that gets the most votes, usually get to pick their person to be the prime minister, but if the prime minister isn't doing what the people want, they'll be removed. etc.
@@MrPicky Iceland was under danish control until 1944. When nazi germany invaded Denmark, Iceland decided they wanted to be their own country :P, nevertheless, like i stated, the kings and queens in scandinavia are apolitical, they have no influence in politics and are not allowed to make political statements :P
@@nopenope3164 Nope - Iceland was under Danish control until December 1 1918 when Iceland became fully independent sovereign state, known as the Kingdom of Iceland, and was freely associated to Denmark in a personal union with the Danish king. Due to this personal union Iceland asked Denmark to represent on its behalf foreign affairs and defence interests, while maintaining full control of them. So basically Iceland was its own state from that day in 1918 but decided to sever the ties with the monarchy and become republic in 1944. Also the Scandinavian monarchs may have no political influence but still are heads of state. They are not democratically elected heads of state so I still claim that Iceland and Finland are true democracies as their citizens can vote for their heads of state. It is "cute" to have figureheads (monarchs) but also very outdated system 😉

when sweden and finland joined NATO in '22 and '23 respectively, it was great news - say what you want about progeganda on each side - we're right to want and to preserve our freedoms (human history is unbelievably dark and violent, and... uncomfortable, and unforgivable) and like-minded people should stick together. there may be less of us than you think. we should probably also convince the people born on the wrong side of [this chapter...] the human story to see things this way. rational people look out for one another, and some world leaders are absolutely diabolical.
For any country which wants to get ahead of Finland in a 30 year perspective, from now on, even from a very crappy starting point, be sure it is possible - just follow the Finnish model. All of these factors are needed (no special order, but all at once): Pay all debts; religion that underlines that we are all equal in the eyes of God, especially equal in Christ (the flag comes with a cross); our heroes got stamina and creativity more than money and worldly status; thinking equality and solidarity in every aspect of life; support women's and girls' power; invest in all young people, their health and education; power of free labor unions protected; all parties except nazis allowed; reliable jurisdiction and no corruption allowed at any level; health-care for all, from maternity health, babies, children, adults, any special needs, and elderly, including vaccination programs; free press and freedom of speech and assembly and organization for good causes, from parties to knitting-cafés and choirs; national strict control of health hazards, especially drugs and addictive substances and poisons; progressive taxation, in sum high taxes with lots of benefits in return for the tax payers; effective gun and crime-control; affordable housing in many forms; a population of people taking responsibility for every detail of life, from not littering to voting in free and fair elections, creating a country where law-abiding is a natural tendency for the common good, so that we can have a clean and accessible nature, safe streets, and high trust. Don't think that Finns are happy-go-lucky and careless, though they love to laugh, sing and dance, and do it a lot - on the contrary, Finns complain all the time about everything, until conditions improve to their liking. Finnish humor hangs out all pompous decision-makers, who offend the public, with their taking advantage of ordinary people. There are many ways to show a-holes their place, when is needed, and Finns readily see when there is a need. For example speeding tickets are measured in hourly incomes. An ugly tower meant to glorify your achievements becomes a monument of your hybris insteead (Uolevin torahammas - google that!). Do visit Finland to learn more, not just Helsinki in the tourist season, please! Do come and enjoy!
There are a few things in your answer that are statistically poppycock. God and christ have never factored in our success .. especially considering that people never really let go of the old beliefs (you can still notice a lot of animistic beliefs etc. if you pay attention). Second, that "war on drugs" that was imported from the US was never a good idea. Other than those, lots of good stuff you list here that I agree on :)
The sole reason nordic countries have cross in our flag is because of God. Yet we have shifted away from Him and towards to worldly values aka. Satans values. There are too many people in power who support worldly values and because of ignorance and or delusion they think to be saints yet in reality they are hypocrites, those who support Truth are being ridiculed and talk'd down to,, like it is written, on last days good is being called evil.. 1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
I just used the right for a citizen to secure an affordable apartment through the city's housing projects. There is a planned approach to finding or putting your profile down to a larger choice for housing, and there is an acute trust in every housing centre that puts aside 10% of empty apartments to people in need. They could have lost everything to fire or natural disaster. And when that happens, they are offered a temporary spot, which in most cases actually becomes a new home. The quality is fairly low and well positioned for easy access to the city centre, or perhaps in the rural area. Basically, the constitution provides the citizens with safety, as every private home is sacred in the deepest meaning of the word sacred. You need a lot of proof or a serious compelling reason for stepping into a private home. And that goes for rentals just as well as privately owned homes.
Norway and Denmark delt with Hitler during the occupation. That said, we've had more than our fair share of feudalism and several kings with absolutely power - at least one of them, Christian VII was absolutely fåking raving mad. I am NOT exagerating! Norwegian here, and us nordics have been ruled by kings & queens, not so much dictators, but in some cases maybe the occasional tyrant here and there. The swedish king Karl the 12th comes to mind. Taking his poor swedish people on a crusade across parts of Europe to build his swedish empire, before ending his days as a young man, shot dead in the trenches outside of the norwegian fortress, Fredriksten Festning! Funnily enough, we are the greatest of neighbours, and have good relations between us up here in the north! Before that, during the viking-era, before being unified as whole countries, we were just small city-states and clans lead by chieftans and kings & queens. There might have been lesser known, local tyrants back then. However, the most obvious one, that for some reason seems to try to escape me, is during the 2nd world war, Denmark and Norway were occupied by Nazi-Germany! The norwegian politician Vidkun Quisling did a coup and announced over the radio that his party, Nasjonal Samling (National Gathering) had taken over controll of the government after the "cowardly royal family and politicians" had fled the country and gone into hiding in England, and that everyone should welcome and greet our german savoiurs! Libya was the most advanced society, until Jens Stoltenberg bombed it back to the stoneage. Scandinavia is among the most corrrupt nations in the world. Norway does not even use transcription in it's court system, which means the entire justice system has been corrupted. Our Constitution has been phased out without any consequence, and treason is a badge of honor among our corrupt politicians.
Let’s take a look at each of your claims one by one: 1. Libya was not necessarily the most advanced society before the NATO intervention in 2011. The country faced significant challenges under Muammar Gaddafi’s regime, including human rights abuses and economic problems. Jens Stoltenberg, who was Norway’s Prime Minister at the time, supported the NATO operation based on a UN mandate to protect civilians during the civil war in Libya. However, it is an exaggeration to say that Libya was “bombed back to the stone age.”All though I agree that this action against Libya was not fair from what we now know. 2. Scandinavia is among the most corrupt nations in the world: This is not correct. Scandinavia, including Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, is known for having very low levels of corruption. Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index consistently ranks these countries among the least corrupt in the world. 3. Norway does not always use full transcriptions in court cases, but this does not necessarily mean the justice system is corrupt. There are other methods to document court proceedings, such as audio recordings and written summaries. The claim that the entire justice system is corrupt because of this is an exaggeration without evidence. But I do agree that it would help transparency to have audio recordings of the court cases, as is common in for example Sweden, Denmark and Germany. 4. Norway’s constitution is still in force and is respected as the highest law of the land. The claim that treason is a badge of honor among politicians is very serious and requires concrete evidence. It is important to distinguish between political disagreement and actual cases of corruption or treason.
So Libya was facing economic problems? Do you mean the sanctions imposed by the west? Feel free to tell me which western nations 1) Share it's oil revenue among it's populace. 2) Offers free education. 3) Pay newly graduated, unemployed people the average income of their profession. 4) Offer every newly married couples free, decent housing. Imagine if people of the west realized this was even possible? But the obvious reason puppet Stoltenberg bombed Libya, was that they were establishing a new gold based currency, which would have obliterated Central Bank fiat currencies within a few years. Every war is a banker's war. After all, the only reason Central Banks were established, was to fight wars. The thing that gets me, though, is when people who can actually spell, argue that committing war crimes and crimes against humanity, the killing of a million children, women and men, and the destruction of an ancient sovereign nation, is all good, because of claims of human rights abuse. Back to Norwegian corruption. Do you know that the right to a fair trail is a human right? Did you know that this right is also in our constitution? Therefore, denying someone a fair trial, is both a breach of an individual's human rights, but those who deny someone a fair trial is also committing treason. I see that you do not comprehend why transcription is an integral part of the justice system, so allow me to explain. First of all, an official audio recording of a trial is the same as transcription, can be done by anyone with a phone, costs nothing, and is still not an integral part of court proceedings. Yet, Norwegian politicians sent millions to Albania(I think) in order for them to get a transcription system in their court system. In other words, politicians do understand the importance of transcription, which in a court proceeding, would cancel any claim of negligence, and prove premeditation. So why is it so important? Because without transcription, no testimony is valid, because it is only documented through the Judges understanding, as presented in the sentence, and is therefore nothing but hearsay, which is not admissible in a court of law. A written summary is also hearsay, and is also not admissible in a court of law. This ensures that criminal, corrupt and incompetent judges and attorneys can say and do whatever they will, without any chance for the defendant to address any mishandling, blatant corruption, illegalities or incompetence. There is simply no admissible proof of it. I do want to thank you, though, for so perfectly exemplifying how and why this corruption is possible. It is because of people like you. People who pull their nisselue firmly over their eyes and ears, and are not only content with simply regurgitating propaganda and lies, but doing so proudly and with condescending righteousness. You also called me a conspiracy theorist, right? Would you like to learn the truth about the term, or is this enough cognitive dissonance for one day?
@@ozoz189 Don't waste your time on the truth, or the one conveying it? I do realize Truth can be painful. If someone get information contrary to the official narrative, it often times cause cognitive dissonance. This can be quite bewildering, as it forces your brain to try to make sense out of contradictory information. Don't worry though. The sensation will pass, and if you keep focusing on real facts, and use logic and reason, you will end up being immune to propaganda and dangerous lies. For most people, though, like 0z0z here, it is much easier just to attack the person conveying truth, and to ignore the facts all together. These are the people who make it possible to continue illegal warfare, child abuse and the rampant corruption stealing our common resources. The funny thing about these "gatekeepers" who subject themselves to false authority, is that they actually believe they are good people, when in reality, they are the worst of us. The choice is always yours, whether or not you want to be a sovereign citizen, or a slave. Choose wisely.
In Finland we kind of had a dictator in Kekkonen. Not that we were doing very badly during his multiple terms as the president from the late 50s to early 80s, but he did abuse his power (which has largely been taken away from the presidency since him). Many older people still seem to idolize him, though.
