The US isn't just "significantly larger" than England, it's bigger than the whole of Western Europe. If you placed the main portion of the US on top Europe, it would stretch from Lisbon all the way to the Caspian Sea. Doesn't matter, I just thought that was a fun fact.

The Florida Everglades is technically a river... A "river of grass" is 50 miles at it's widest and on overage about 4ft deep.
@JasonWeakley
@JasonWeakley 3 года назад
@Michael Antonio except that it's flowing, so it's a river.
@kenslaughter00
@kenslaughter00 3 года назад
@Michael Antonio - Scientifically speaking, all rivers, streams and creeks are "streams." All streams are nothing more than flowing water on the Earth's surface, usually in a defined channel, but not necessarily. Most people think of creeks as the smallest of the three, streams in the middle, and rivers as the largest of the streams, but they're all just streams. Mostly what differentiates between them is what they have been named. For example, if the Mississippi River was officially renamed as, say, Mississippi Creek, then it would be a creek. The US Geological Survey classifies The Everglades in Water Science as a slow moving stream. Ecologically, it is classified as a Subtropical Wetlands Ecosystem, but that's for the wildlife that exists there and has nothing to do with the Water Science. It's like the difference between a pond and a lake. Largely, it's whatever you name it. There is no official distinction between the two. But scientifically, a pond is any inland body of water that is shallow enough for sunlight to reach the deepest point, and therefore allow for photosynthesis to occur where rooted plants can grow on the across the entire width and depth of the body of water.

Here in Nashville, in the Opryland hotel, there is an indoor boat ride called the Delta River. When they were building it, they asked all the countries in the world to send water from their rivers to put in the little Delta River. There is water from 1700 rivers in there. So, funny thing about me. I grew up near the Missouri River. I learned about Lewis and Clark probably more than most of the country. But because so many stories like that as a kid were fables, like Paul Bunyan, John Henry, Johnny Appleseed (real but exaggerated) - I thought Lewis and Clark was an invention of my school district since it included the nearby river. I was already keen on the Santa thing so when I'd see signs relating to Lewis and Clark I just felt like I was in on this big elaborate story. I'm not entirely sure when I realized they were real, but I thought they were fake for an embarrassing amount of time. And it didn't help that there was an actual Jellystone Park near my house where I could pop on over and see Yogi Bear.

Growing up in AZ, the only river I was truly familiar with was the Colorado River, which I thought was very impressive. After all, it carved the Grand Canyon. When I was 12 I went on a trip to the Columbia River. I will never forget the sight of a battle ship sailing up the river. I had no idea that anything like that was even possible. My favorite river is the St. John's River in Florida. It flows north, unlike the vast majority of rivers in the northern hemisphere. It's source is near Vero Beach, and it's mouth is at Jacksonville. It's a freshwater river, turning brackish around Jacksonville, and it flows very slowly at only 0.3 miles per hour, making it one of the "laziest" rivers in the world. It's home to many fish species, and is very popular for recreational activities.

I live just 5 minutes away from one of the oldest rivers in the world, the mighty Susquehanna. It runs through here in NY, all the way down to the Chesapeake Bay in MD. The river separates Endicott(north) and Vestal(south). If you want to get to places like Endicott, Endwell and Johnson City, you have to cross over the river. The city of Binghamton is split by the river. You have to cross it in order to get to certain parts of the City. We are the longest river that no longer has commercial boat traffic. How's that for some neat facts?
