The March Madness Tournament is the Championship Tournament for College [University] Basketball. It starts with the top 64 teams in the country. It's a win or go home tournament. So every game eliminates the loser. So after the first round of play, you're down to 32 teams, next round is the Sweet 16, followed by Elite 8, and then finally the Final 4. And I think the losers of that round play each other for 3rd and 4th place. But I may be wrong on that. Another point I should make is that these players are every bit as tall as an NBA player. They may not be as ripped, but a lot are.

The national semifinals and finals (called the Final Four) takes place in a domed football stadium every year. All the other games take place in arenas that have around 20,000 seats but this year's Final Four will be at the Falcon's stadium in Atlanta with probably around 80,000 people in attendance.

"It's madness!" Now you're getting it. In an NBA season, teams are playing to win enough games to make the postseason. In the postseason, they're playing best-of-5 or best-of-7 to move on. This is a single elimination bracket, so any game could be their last.

I Did school in North Carolina (aged 5-17 years old, so all of K-5, middle school and high school). College basketball is huge. Then you got March Madness, were the best come together at the end of the season. Literally, I had classes that would revolve around the games in March. Tv in the class and game on. English: write a paper about the game. Summary of game, history between teams, own broadcast script, you name it, it’s been used as a reason to keep the game on. Maths: stats, lots of different ways to play with stats. Physical Education: guess who is learning the game rules, how to keep stats, play breakdowns and position recognition. Sciences: game was on, muted. Take your test, do a work sheet and watch quietly. Maybe get into arcs and physics. For at least two whole weeks!! Most tournament games are played in coliseums. Greensboro would almost always have some part it was hosting. I cannot stress how big it really is and how much it is just a way of life. It’s the fervor of a local team, with the excitement of a single elimination tournament. Every game counts, every point missed or blocked could be the one that lost it. Maybe your team loses first, but the team that beat you is playing your rivals? Or, another team from your area you wouldn’t normally be caught dead rooting for, is the only one left and, screw it, Duke is from North Carolina too and who wants Kentucky to win?

You seemed to really enjoy march madness so I suggest you watch a few more videos on this topic. - Best March Madness Moments All Time - Best College Basketball Buzzer Beaters - Best March Madness Dunks - March Madness Explained As a huge sports nut I can say with confidence that March Madness is one of the greatest sporting tournaments on the planet. The only other thing I can compare it to is the world cup. But if you are craving excitement, march madness is the one. Some things from the video explained: - March Madness starts with 68 teams. The first 2 weeks of the tournament is the 1st and 2nd round. This is when the most exciting upsets happen. You will have small schools from middle of nowhere America get a chance against national powerhouses like Duke and Michigan State. When these schools win it usually makes huge headlines, and it happens a lot during the first few weeks of march. - The GIANT stadiums of people you are seeing are games during the Final 4. The tournament consists of 4 brackets. Every game is single elimination. If you end up winning all your games, you go to the Final 4. From then on all games are played at the same stadium.

Great video Luka! The first day of the tournament is arguably the greatest day in sports. Nothing like getting together with some friends, going to a bar or restaurant, and watching game after game. Also, you accidentally skipped over the first few seconds of the video, when in 2018, UMBC upset Virginia. March Madness = 68 teams made up of all of the conference champions + the next 36 best teams in the country that didn't win their conference play in a single elimination bracket, the winner being the national champion. There are 4 regions, with each region having teams ranked 1-16 (the number to the left of the team names). I take off work for the first two rounds and sit with friends in a bar watching 5 games at once, it's heaven.

Here's the amazing thing about March Madness. College has limited eligibility - players only have 4 years they can play. The absolute best will go on to play Pro, but for most, college is as far as they go. The NCAA tourney is single elimination, so.... for a lot of the players, the next game they lose is the last game they'll ever play at a high level of competition. It makes for incredibly intense games.

Luka - Although it's two different sports (basketball and football/soccer), March Madness is comparable to England's FA Cup in many ways. Unlike the FA Cup, March Madness is played out over a span of about 4 straight weeks and serves as the culmination to the college basketball season (rather than having matches mixed in throughout the various qualifying teams' regular season fixtures as is the case with the FA Cup). Just like the FA Cup, however, most every year we get treated to at least a couple of small "no name" schools upsetting much larger, highly ranked schools to make a run deep into the tournament. We refer to these as "Cinderella" schools/teams because once they've made their entrance on the big stage, it seems only a matter of time before the clock will strike midnight on the fairytale-like magic that got them there. I'd encourage you to rewatch and take note of the little numbers next to each teams' name on the scoreline graphic. These numbers represent each teams' seed which is basically where they were ranked in their region at the start of the tournament. Then tournament field consists of 4 regions with the best team in each region set as the 1 seed and the worst as the 16 seed - the latter represent those that just barely got in/qualified for the tournament. So keep that in mind for context and think about those historic, shock results that have occurred in the FA Cup over the years. These upset victories and "Cinderella Stories" of the tournament are what make March Madness such a special event.

The other thing to note with this tournament is that the little numbers to the left of the team means what seed they are... so If they are a "1" they are one of the best four teams in the country, "2" means top 8, etc all the way to 16. So when you see a double digit seed beat a single digit seed, its like if a team in League One beat a Prem team in the FA cup

The first Thursday and Friday games of the tournament, there's 16 games played each day, then the winners play 2 days later. These sort of finishes and upsets happen frequently during the opening round, hence the madness title. The final 4 (the semis played on a Saturday and the final played 2days later on Monday night) are often played in big NFL type stadiums with a 60k-90k person capacity. Like how Wembley has the FA cup semifinals and final, only it changes venue each year

With 4-6 of them all going on at the same time. They show them all on TV on different channels so you can watch every single game. 68 teams in a tournament. Each conference is guaranteed to have at least 1 team. Some conferences would be like the EPL and some are one bid leagues that would be several levels lower. You lose once you're out. The games are neutral sites but because you can have up to 8 fan bases at one game. If an upset looks possible it basically turns to road game for the better team. This is basically my favorite holiday. I won't work the opening Thursday thru Sunday of the tournament.

The NCAA Tournament is like the FA Cup for American college basketball. 64 teams are split into four groups of 16, and then seeded 1-16, with the stronger teams seeded 1,2,3, ect., and at the other end are the "minnows" (similar to 4th tier and lower in the FA Cup). In the first round the teams are paired up 1 v 16, 2 v 15 and so on. Just like the FA Cup what makes the tournament exciting is when the smaller teams upset the higher seeds. To qualify a team either wins its league (32 teams) or is given an "at large" berth based on their season record and strength of schedule. Only once has a #16 seed beaten a #1 seed, and a #15 seed has beaten a #2 seed just eight times.

'March Madness' is sort of like the 'Champions League.' The different champions and top teams from various conferences participate in a tournament to determine the champion in college basketball. Instead of 'groups' they're put in 'brackets' and then seeded. The early rounds are played, generally speaking, on neutral courts around the country. That means a school might find themselves playing far away from their fan base. As it progresses and gets to the 'Final Four' the games take place in a marquis arena. Since it's single elimination every game is 'the last game of the season.'

Watch more March madness but you need to look at the numbers by the names. They put in 64 teams, and divide them into 4 section. The 16 teams per section are numbered 1-16. So a lot these were incredible upsets that have never happened where some school that has like 2000 or less kids beating a powerhouse. For example two years one of the worst teams in the whole tournament (16 seed) beat the number #1 team in the country which was the first time a 16 seed had ever won, and they won by over 20. The odds of that were probably thousandths of a percent

College basketball is SO much more interesting to watch that the NBA. A lot of times in the NBA it’s all offense and nobody really tries to play hard defense. March Madness is arguably and likely a larger event every year than the NBA final. I suggest that this March you do some research and fill out a bracket (your guess for the outcome of the 6-round tournament) and watch this thing. There’s a reason why it’s called March MADNESS! This event is insane every year and I highly suggest more College Basketball videos rather than NBA in the future.

check out a march madness bracket, all teams are ranked, early rounds pit high versus lower ranked teams. most upsets in early rounds. Only biggest venues used in playoffs, All games televised, its a big deal and fans go wild.

I went to a division one university, we were not good at basketball but we made it to March madness half the time I was there. The time we won a game at home I got to rush the court along with like 100 other students. It was fun

If you want a better understanding of March madness prior to this year’s tournament I would suggest watching/reacting to ESPN 30 for 30: Survive and Advance. It’s a story of the most implausible tournament run in history. It’s about life, death, and college basketball. You will not be disappointed. I guarantee.

9:17 I'm upset that they didn't show the best part, and that was Bill Murray's(who's a Xavier fan) reaction to Koenig's game winner, because his face just read "Hello darkness my old friend".

Imagine March Madness kind of like the Champions League in football, except there is no group stage, instead going straight to knockouts. Imagine some little club from the middle of nowhere with stands that only fit 1,000 people and a roster of no name players you have never heard of before and will never hear about again. They are only there because they won some some league that no one pays attention to. They get the opportunity to play the biggest and best club in the country (say Liverpool) in a massive stadium (say Wembley) and everyone thinks they will get destroyed, but somehow they win and knock out Liverpool. That is the level of craziness that happens in March Madness all the time. There are 68 teams (8 teams play in the play in round so the bracket starts at the round of 64). 32 teams get in by winning their conference, usually through a conference tournament after the regular season. Another 36 teams get in through selection by a committee formed to select the36 best teams that didn't get the automatic berth from winning their conference. These teams are all seeded and placed in a bracket determined by their seed. There is a whole show and celebration for when they reveal the bracket and there are shows breaking down who is on the bubble of in or out for weeks leading up to it. The bracket doesn't change each round like some competitions, so there can be some interesting seed match ups. It also means you can have an easier path to the later rounds if there are more upsets in your region. Each round spreads all the games over two days with two rounds per week. So for the first week you have 16 games each on Thursday and Friday (round of 64 teams so 32 games) and 8 each on Saturday and Sunday (round of 32 teams so 16 games). There are regions and sub regions so that groups of 4 teams are in a city. So for that first week the #1 seed and #16 seed would have a game and the #8 and #9 teams would have a game with the winners of those two games playing each other in the next round. So all three of those games are in the same city so that the four teams do not have to travel between the round of 64 and round of 32. It then starts again with the sweet 16 over Thursday and Friday and then the elite 8 over Saturday and Sunday, again with groups of 4 in different cities. Winning your Elite 8 game is massive because it sends you to the Final Four, which is the games between the last 4 teams standing. The Final Four is usually held in a massive stadium like an indoor NFL stadium. There are tons of events including concerts with big name acts. It basically takes over the city like a Super Bowl would. To put in perspective how big March Madness is, the NCAA (the college association that runs it) makes close to $1 billion from it every year. That is just under half of what the UEFA Champions League makes. So yeah, its kind of massive.

You need to create a bracket this march! Once all the teams are finalized and put into the bracket they release it and people will go through and try to guess/ choose who will be knocked out each round, who the final 4 will be, and who will win, things like that.. If you know about Fantasy Football in America then I would saw the brackets are a lot like that, people will play with friends and stuff where the person with the best bracket will win a prize pool or the person with the worst bracket has to face a punishment.. stuff like that. Also every year there is a thing called the "Warren Buffet Perfect Bracket Challenge", basically if you predict the outcome of all 63 games and have a "perfect" bracket then you will receive $1 Million every year for the rest of your life. The chances of having a perfect bracket are 1 in 9.2 Quintilian and it has never been done before despite there being over 70 Million brackets submitted each year.

Randy Moss. NFL wide reciever. Most talent WR ever to play. Also the most exciting. 6'4" 4.25 40 yard dash. Second all time in Touchdowns as a WR. Best deep threat (long pass catcher) of all time.

The first week, from Thursday through Sunday, is probably the best. Essentially 12hrs of basketball a day with "lose and you're season is over" intensity. I would take those days off work and I'm not a big fan. Search "One Shining Moment" that's the official tournament highlight reels since 1987.

Luka! You should definitely fill out a march madness bracket this year. Even if you don’t know much about the teams that’s okay because it’s nearly impossible to get it 100% correct

People will argue whether the NBA or college basketball is better. I enjoy both, but college basketball means so much more to me. There’s so much more passion and fans tend to be more into games.

From Wiki-"The tournament teams include champions from 32 Division I conferences (which receive automatic bids), and 36 teams which are awarded at-large berths. These "at-large" teams are chosen by an NCAA selection committee, then announced in a nationally televised event on the Sunday preceding the "First Four" play-in games, currently held in Dayton, Ohio, and dubbed Selection Sunday. The 68 teams are divided into four regions and organized into a single-elimination "bracket", which pre-determines, when a team wins a game, which team it will face next. Each team is "seeded", or ranked, within its region from 1 to 16. After the First Four, the tournament occurs during the course of three weekends, at pre-selected neutral sites across the United States. Teams, seeded by rank, proceed through a single-game elimination bracket beginning with a "first four" consisting of 8 low-seeded teams playing in 4 games for a position in the first round the Tuesday and Wednesday before the first round begins, a first round consisting of 64 teams playing in 32 games over the course of a week, the "Sweet Sixteen" and "Elite Eight" rounds the next week and weekend, respectively, and - for the last weekend of the tournament - the "Final Four" round. The Final Four is usually played during the first weekend of April. These four teams, one from each region (East, South, Midwest, and West), compete in a preselected location for the national championship."

Six games in a matter of three weeks with single elimination. There are 4 teams that would potentially have to win a seventh as a result of play-in games. I missed weeks worth of classes my third and fourth year in college because I was traveling with the team as a part of the university band at Butler during 2010 and 2011.

No March Madness happens while the NBA season is still going on but, because about half the states *(Each as big as different counties around the world)* don't have a single NBA team while some other states (or in Los Angeles and New York City case) cities have multiple NBA teams. March madness is the closest thing to a nation wide tournament of any sort being televised.

NCAA March Madness is more like the FA Cup, if it were a post season tournament, there are two big ones March Madness/NCAA-Conference Champions and the best teams play here in a single elimination tournament to determine the national championship NIT-Conference League Leaders and the next best teams play to determine the best of the rest, the first 4 to miss the NCAA Tournament start as NIT 1 seeds

The thing is, the tournament is not just the best 64 teams in the nation. Some are there because they are the best. Other teams are there because they won their not-so-good division. So some of these upsets are like EPL Championship or League One teams beating Premier League teams.

Luka, it's Basically a FA Cup style knock out tournament for 64 teams that lasts about 3 1/2 weeks from Mid-March to Early April.
