6:24 A little context: The player MJ dunked on was Dikembe Mutombo, one of the most renowned shot blockers of all time, and in the weeks leading up to this game, Mutombo claimed that Jordan had “never dunked on him”. So Jordan went out and, as the commentators said, “got Mutombo”. The finger wag that Jordan did is Mutombo’s signature celebration.
3:40 that wasnt a block that was a goaltend, a goaltend is when the ball is on its way down to the hoop and the opposing player hits it, they still get the points for the goaltend
Yes more Kevin Durant he is 6’11 with handles, he can shoot, and he can dunk on people. He’s all around as well. The only thing about him is that he is slim for his size but when you see him play that doesn’t matter
not today I dont know what the rules were then regarding travels but in the modern NBA its not. He had a “gather step” at first and then 2 steps to the basket after he gathered. Furthermore, a player can theoretically start a dribble and then gather it before it “finishes” (hits the ground), so the step included in that dribble doesn’t count as one of the 2 gather steps a player is afforded. Its not unreasonable to question Dr J’s move but it wasn’t a travel imo.
Inside the cylinder can be called on both offense and defense and has to do with Rebounding. Goaltending is an illegal Defensive play that means the ball was on the way down (to the hoop) when you blocked it, and you can only block s shot on its way up or at its peak. Also can't block a shot/layup when its already hit the backboard, but you can lead it to the backboard.
That low dribbling doesn’t really have a name other than “low dribbling”. It’s not a super hard thing to do in itself, but the way Joe Johnson used it to throw off the defender (Paul Pierce, a great player and solid defender) was something that is almost never done. It was a brilliant way to make space.
Please react to “Jordan Kilganon, top 100 dunks never done in the nba dunk contest” if you thought the last dunk video was crazy this will absolutely blow your mind!
Tips when watching NBA highlights: listen to the words of the commentators, listen for names, start remembering players' jersey numbers, and the jersey colors so u can easily recognize the player when the quality is trash. Also, getting dunked on, posterized, is humiliating because the defender has just been baptized with such force that they couldnt stop it
love the enthusiasm and how much you've learned already! one of the things that's so great about basketball is you're in control of your body, movements, and place on the floor - no restrictions except your mind! Whereas in football you have to be in a certain position or only play defense, and baseball you're in the field or at the plate a good amount of the time.
Also, a lot of these dunks are even more iconic when you’re familiar with the players involved. Jordan over Mutumbo for example. Mutumbo is one of the best shot blockers in history, and the finger wag was his signature taunt. He bragged Jordan would never dunk on him, so Jordan did and used his own taunt against him.
Bro you'd enjoy And1 mixtape highlights, especially the Professor if you're into handles. It was professional streetball back in the day, and some players transitioned into the NBA but it's very hype.
You should definetly watch vince carter's top 100 career dunks with the way you enjoy dunks :D All dunks you've seen to this date from all around the league this guy has done years ago
3:54 That was an illegal block, the basket counted. It’s called a “goaltend.” The rule is if it’s above the rim going in you’re not allowed to block it.
10:02 “that’s what you wanna see in ball, man” As the referee is handing out a technical foul for taunting lol. I like your message, that everyone all around gets a touch on the Ball and passes it around, but the timing was quite unfortunate
Can you react to Derrick Rose? Before his injuries, he was one of the fastest and athletic players of his time. He was the fast Chicago Bulls guard in this video 🙂
To give context at 6:30, MJ did that taunt because Mutombo (the person who got dunked on by MJ on that play) is known for doing that everytime after blocking a shot. Mutombo is the 2nd best shot blocker in NBA history
Thing with all these clips is they get more insane with context: kobe dunking on Howard who's a great shot blocker, Jordan dunking on mutombo who's a great shot blocker who trash talked MJ etc etc they all have context that makes it rude and even madder
When a player dunks and steps over or stands on them is the MOST disrespect you can possibly do. Making a person fall from dribbling isn’t nearly as humiliating as getting thrown down from a hard dunk and just stared down or walked over. That Dwyane wade clip is the first time somebody got stepped over
Awesome video! One more closer to Dennis Rodman - Wild. I mean, Dennis might be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize this year. Probably the most interesting athlete of all time.
If you want to see more specific moves like 16:10 (chich is called a Shake&Bake) you'll have to get some advices on their names I can't put every single move there's too much but here's a shortlist with the name of the player(s) who made it shine, I wont put only dribble moves but also shots or defensive moves Skyhook (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) -> this one is known as the most unstopable move ever - actually Kareem developped it when he was forbidden to dunk in the NCAA in the 60s, no one is able to pull it off ever since, more than miraculously Shake and Bake (Jamal Crawford) Dream Shake (Hakeem Olajuwon) Up and Under (Kevin McHale -> this guys used a LOT of moves) El Latigo (Whip move) (Dejan Bodiroga) Wraparound (some players like Steve Nash used that a lot to pass) Eurostep (Manu Ginobili bring it back to life, then players like James Harden used it a lot) Chasedown block (LeBron James is doing it a lot) Behind the back ball-fake ("Pistol" Pete Maravich, Rajon Rondo) Floater/Tear drop (Tony Parker) Spin-move (Earl Monroe, Tony Parker) One-Leg Fadeaway (Dirk Nowitzki) UTEP-2-step (Tim Hardaway - basically an exagerated crossover) Pump Fake (Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade) Fadeaway/Turnaround Fadeaway (Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant) Reverse Layup (Michael Jordan) Jab Step (Carmelo Anthony) Black Tornado (Shaq) Step Back (Paul Pierce) Finger Roll (George Gervin) Self-alley-oop (Tracy McGrady) Full-court-defense (Scottie Pippen), a must see I wont make a specific list of dunks, there's too much, if you watch some Jordan Kilganon highlights (pro dunker), you'll see the names, that's like skateboarding etc, there's a lot of moves and variations ! Kilganon's signature dunk is the Scorpion and its variations
You dont seem to fully appreciate when a player dunks over another guy. In those clips you seem to focus on the dribbling before or a pass, please understand how difficult it is to dunk over a guy (especially if he's taller), and how embarrassing for the dude getting dunked over. They call it getting "Put on a poster" or "posterized". Strictly positive criticism here my dude, not hating.
Derrick Rose is the guy who you said you haven't reacted to. Chicago's son. Drafted by his hometown team and was the youngest MVP in NBA History. He's also one of my favorite players of all time. If you like aggressive basketball, watch a Derrick Rose video.
3:37 That's what's called goaltending. You're not allowed to block the ball if it's coming downwards toward the basket. The basket counts. It's why you never see a big man just standing under the basket waiting to swat a 3-pointer away, for example.
3:45 it was a goaltending call meaning the player didnt block the ball before it was on its way down. you cant just block the ball whenever u want because that would make the game boring
Don’t know if you have already, but you should find a video of Detroit Pistons bad boys from the 80’s. Probably the most hated team ever in the NBA. 😁 They were dirty players! Lots of highlights and/or compilations to find on them. Won’t be good quality video necessarily, but a must see.
If the ball is on the the way down toward the rim and the opponent block the ball,is call goal tending and that’s not a block the other player still get 2pts.And if he block the ball as it going up toward the rim now that is a block, usually They go to the replay to see at what point did he touch the ball and swat it away. That was Dope!!!So freakin’ satisfying 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
@Lavish Luka React to the NHL All Star Game skills competition. There's many events that may peak your interest: Fastest skater, Hardest shot, Accuracy, Goalie save streak, etc. Totally worth your while.
For the dribbles that you're talking about, they're known as ankle breakers. If you just look up best ankle breakers in the NBA you should be able to find a compilation of them
You seem to be missing the point on a lot of these plays, bro. "Rude and Humiliating". It's not about the play itself in many of these. It's more about the attitude shown after the play. It's not just beating but humiliating your opponent. Like when Iverson hits that stepback over Ty Lue. He stepped over him. Dwyane Wade does the same to Anderson Varejao and Scottie Pippen does it to Patrick Ewing. It's things like that, or Jordan wagging his finger at Mutombo, which Mutombo would do to opponents when he blocked their shot. IT's the attitude, not necessarily the play itself.
If you like trick dribbling, please check out the Harlem Globetrotters. They travel around the world doing a trick shot, comedy basketball show that will amaze you and make you laugh your ass off at the same time!
You should check out 'The Professor' on youtube, not NBA, but a street baller. You would enjoy seeing the moves he puts on people - lots of broken ankles.
Dude! The one that got cut off at the end was so disrespectful...Deandre Jordan over Brandon Knight...Knight’s got no business trying to play defense down low, but holy cunt muffins it was bad...
