Alex Salvini won both days at Adstone
BSEC Round 7&8 - Adstone, Northants
Italian Alex Salvini has won the 7th and 8th round of the 2012 Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship at Enduroland's Manor Farm venue in Northamptonshire on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th May.
The weather was typically May - it may have been warm and dry or it may have been cold and wet. It was cold and wet. Typical. The course was in perfect condition but overnight rain put an unwelcome gloss onto perfection and made for a slippery sighting lap at 9.00am. Plenty of clods in the pegs at the end of the lap confirmed that the conditions were slick. The layout was very similar to last year. From the start the riders weaved around the field and then blasted off over a double jump to the rooty wood at the furthest point of the course before ducking and diving up and down the banks of a disused railway line. Before the finish there was an extreme section. It was great for the spectators but by the 3rd lap it was in danger of becoming a bottleneck and the organisers cut it out.
Husqvarna's Alex Salvini led from the start but TM's Jordan Rose gave Alex a run for his money to take 2nd. Jordan pushed hard all day and set the fastest time on his last lap. Before the start Daryl Bolter thought his Crescent KTM 350 may prove to be a bit of a handful on the wet grass but he mastered the power and finished 3rd. The next 4 riders home read like the programme of an MXGP. Tom Church was 4th, Jamie Law 5th, Matt Ridgway 6th and Jamie Lewis 7th. Edmondson Racing's Lee Edmondson was 8th. Ryan Voase has struggled with a wrist injury that has left him a little movement in his right hand so he kept it pinned and finished 9th. Gav Houson was 10th, Mark Roberts was 11th and Aaron Poolman was 12th
The cold breeze did little to cool the competition in the hotly contested Under 23 class. Midwest's EWC veteran Alex Rockwell led from the start to take the win. Johnny Walker has been practicing with Jamie Law and he has picked up some of Jamie's speed. Jonny finished 2nd. Danny McCanney was counting his "offs" into double figures but he still finished 3rd and never gave up -setting his fastest time in his last run.
Midwest Husaberg's Tyson Mayton Jones was the best of the Experts ahead of Oliver Hart and Edmondson Racing's Richard Ely was 3rd. GasGasUK's Jack Lee lost a minute after crashing on his penultimate lap and limping home but he went out again and finished 4th. James Jackman was 5th, Craig Reynolds 6th, Kalem Hicks 7th. Dan Beavan 8th.
Steve Holcombe had another mature ride to finish 14th overall and win the Under 19 class. Steve won 7 out 8 tests and finished over three minutes clear of his nearest rival. James Dent and MPS Racing's Rob Johnson pushed each other all day and in the end James took the runner up by less than 6 seconds from Rob.
The Youth Cup was won by Edmondson Racing's Brad Freeman ahead of Josh Gotts on a TM and Lee Sealey was 3rd.
Gethin Francombe from Pontypool has dominated the Clubman class all season and he came to Adstone with a 15 point lead which he extended with another win. Ireland's Richard Topping was 2nd and REME KTMs Jase Corden was 3rd. Ian Smart was riding well but he lost a minute on 2nd run which dropped him down to 6th.
Jane Daniels was the best Woman rider with times quick enough to have won the Clubman class. Rhian George was 2nd and Katie Walker was 3rd.
