A good mix of original and reproduction items. We thought this would be a different way of presenting an example of what a soldier may have carried.

Its kinda sucks that these people have left the channel i love there work they make it interesting to watch unlike other ones there litterly give it life and personality they now have four videos ww2 america and ww2/1 british they used to have one about the prints for like the chocolate bar and ids but that was taken down or they removed it same with the ww2 german i really with these people would come back

Nice. Just two things. First your soap tin is from the 44 pattern web equipment and never saw use in ww2, most soldier just carried the soap in greace paper . Secondly the boot polish and brushes where mostly kept in the helve carrier and not the small pack.

@@jamo491 right I do what these people do for a hobby. If you're going to do it you should want to be as accurate as possible, and unfortunate on the British side of things those soap tins are a common mistake. That I too was once guilty of. It's just some constructive feedback.

Hate to be picky . . . BUT . . . the jack-knife is a post war (1950s) Belgian copy of the British one ! Thought it best to tell you in case you weren't aware of this fact. PS also no sign of the enamel tea mug, usually attached to the small pack closing strap !
@jelkel25
@jelkel25 Год назад
I think you may be correct (I have a Belgian one) but they are almost pristine good examples and it's hard to get British WW2 models that haven't had the blades ground down so they look more like toothpicks.
@clivedunning4317
@clivedunning4317 Год назад
@@jelkel25 The Belgian knives are usually slightly smaller than the British equivalent and a good many of them have scales (grips) that are smaller than the handles. Their quality usually leaves a lot to be desired. You can still obtain brand new British Army Jack-knifes from several of the original manufacturers in Sheffield. They are of a better quality steel and have more modern 'plastic' scales. My only gripes with them is the cost, and the fact that the thumb slot for the main blade is on the opposite side to the original. Happy New Year and enjoy your reenactment activities. (plus the knives do not have the WO (War Office) markings and government crow foot arrow).

@glenndouglas8822

It's a northern English accent, our accents vary from Southern, Midlands and northern dialects. Then each individual town/city have their own accents. Hardly anyone speaks posh now, people think the British speak posh but they don't, it comes from a time when the BBC would not let regional accents on tv. The Welsh are easy to understand as they sing when they speak. Next time you listen to the Welsh, take notice. Hoped that helped Tyler. 🙌🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

The book on France - were they also given a phrasebook so they could converse with the locals? If not they should have been. The shaving mirror could be used for signalling if it was sunny. Cigarettes - vital for morale! And everyone smoked in those days. The 'housewife' set - this contained needles, thread and spare buttons.

Not so. They had to keep their boots clean if possible otherwise they leaked and fell apart. It was the same when I was in in the 1980s. When out in the field we were ordered to keep our boots clean. If we didn't then we could be put on a charge.

@@stephenhowes7542 You would absolutely carry boot cleaning stuff in northwest Europe '44, plenty of images of guys carrying them, although they carried them in the entrenching tool cover rather than the pack because they would rarely need them so that kept them a little out the way. Dubbin especially was important and had to be carried as it gas proofed the boots. They might not have used them that often but they definitely carried them.
