This clip shows you the vocal ability of Britney Spears before she got her record deal on JIVE Records. (Mickey Mouse Club, Star Search and her 1998 Singapore Showcase)
I guess the thing about being a successful singer is not all about having a powerful voice. Sometimes, uniqueness is the key to success. There are so many powerhouse singers from all those singing competitions and reality shows, but only very few of them is as successful as Britney. When I hear Britney, I instantly know that it's Britney. But for some other singers, when you hear them, you'd be like is she trying to be Whitney Houston? If Britney had kept singing like how she used to as a child, maybe she wouldn't have been so internationally recognizable.
Maybe due to being in the spotlight from a young age, she maybe did literally that. Trying to get her childhood back somehow like mj? Long shot, but just a concept. The industry had to have an effect on her mental development.
For everyone saying she sounded like an adult when she was a child and like a child when she was an adult it’s because her label didn’t like how she sounded and forced her to learn how to sing in that “baby voice “ which is actually very damaging to her real voice . This is her real voice.
TCTC yeah except the industry is evil and brainwashes people and she was super young when she really took off with her singing career so yeah she was forced. It was like if you want to be famous, drop your real voice and pick up this new style to stand out. Oftentimes people sign contracts and then are told to change everything about themselves, looks are super deceiving.
TCTC Whatever, you dont need a gun to force people. Coercion and threats on your “future” in the industry paired with being incredibly young fucks with your head and psychology.
@@nicoleclavel5836Britney is our generation’s Judy Garland. Both were used and abused by the industry and their families. The fortunate thing is that the fan base of today has the opportunity to protect Britney.
Although i believe Britney never could have thought her life would become such a messy hell, she was completely willing to become the sex symbol she was. I mean she was the main person who came up with the sexy side of her career. No one forced her to be completely naked in Toxic video i mean, the "wet and gross" look she had in Slave music video, the whole In The Zone album was all about sex etc. She was willing to do these stuff. The stuff you can't see in any Broadway show.
patlamis misir bare in mind she came up with the ‘sexy’ idea originally at 17. She wasn’t even legal. Let’s think about whose actually responsible for that. But there’s truth in what you say. There’s also a lot of privilege in being a super star sex symbol.

If you followed her career from the start, you would know that she does indeed have a powerful and awesome singing voice which is why I don't understand why they basically forced her to change her singing voice and style.
I don’t care if she sounded like Christina Aguilera, that was her normal voice. She shouldn’t have been forced to sing something shes not. She went through a lot
I don't know why these comparisson. She didn't sound like Christina.. Christina has an amazing and versatile voice but she is a coloratura soprano. Britney is an alto with a deeper tone.
@@angelataylor7799 yeah i mean... Christina was forced to fit the pop icon image but she got tired of it immediately and decided to do what she wanted from Stripped onwards, so Britney could have rebelled too if she wanted to. I don't know why she didn't, I don't know how much pressure she had from her father and so on. But in the end that way of singing ruined her vocal chords. So in my opinion if she really didn't want to sing like that she could have rebelled and finally be herself. Maybe money was more important but we really can't know...
The music industry made her into a pop princess when she should have been the next Diva. She's above and beyond every single singer in her generation, but her real talent was hidden away. The music industry and entertainment industry in general is just brutal, if you don't protect yourself from the vultures. Heaven knows what she has gone through that's not publicly known.
They treated her as a product and not a person, they made her change everything to fit a gap in the market... and now look at her. They destroyed the poor girl.
The fact that her family too are toxic, made her ungrounded and unprotected made me so sad. I still remember when their parent divorced and they made her looks like 'choosing sides'. Mrs Spears made several books about it and Brit looks miserably dragged into it.
Laine Dillard yes!! I feel like it would be really successful, But also feel like we still wouldn’t get the truth from her because she is so controlled and not allowed to say what she really feels (from what I’ve heard). So sad but I would still be interested in watching!! #freebritney
The industry's a bunch of punk ass, greedy, materialistic, small minded, parasites who deserve to be replaced and given no more and no less than the opportunity to work a "normal job" for around $10 an hour like the rest of us.
Well this shows that she’s a true vocalist because most people can’t make such distinct changes in their voice. I can literally hit one monotone note. She can completely change her voice! That’s talent
This happens everywhere... Just take a look at Nickelodeon. Amanda Bynes is a good example. Lots of creepy producers who use those child stars for their own ways and the parents don't care, as long as they get their share of money. Looking back at all the shows i used to watch, Icarly, Victorious, the amanda show... lot's of very creepy stuff on these shows. Water fights with underaged girls in swimsuits, playing with their feet etc etc... the world of child stars is very fucked up. I would never allow my daughter to be alone with those agents, producers etc etc without my supervision at all times.
i know. i mean, she herself has long been a household icon in her generation but she'll always be branded and even remembered as the baby voice pop star. i saw her bts videos of her rehersal/cuts for her music videos and damn she works hard, great dancer then THIS. she's a triple threat. too bad her label didn't show this side of her more
i dont think its completely gone, she sings like a prayer in one clip with her normal voice & she has a few unreleased songs that she sings in her normal voice
Назира Сайнидинова because of Hollywood. When you grew up being a child actress/singer, you have lots of pressure to be perfect and all and britney probably got forced to make her voice baby. And i heard that she sign in with a record label that said she have to make her voice baby. Also i’m pretty sure they make her make the baby voice because her voice and christina sound pretty similar and they both i guess have deep voice and they decided that they want only one to have a deep strong voice. And i guess cuz her natural voice is very strong and deep, it’s harder to sing all song because her tone is very deep.
As long as i would like to hear her singin with her chest voice and not make playback, part of the reason of why she is famous is because of that "baby voice", Max Martin and others producers made her a product, they manage every aspec of her to make her interesting to people (at that time), songs, clothes, dance, and voice, and they made it
@@luceroperez8175 Her label didn’t want to commercialise her as a vocalist. So they made her sing in her horror baby voice, which destroyed her actual real voice. Now she can’t sing anymore. So now she’s left with nothing. She wanted to sing adult contemporary but was made to do pop, she had an amazing powerful and soulful voice. All taken from her.
@@FS-ms2md Yea, because Britney is a soprano. So singing in that high straining baby voice will seriously damage your vocal cords over time. And Britneys are all but destroyed. The damage is that bad you can even hear the baby voice in her talking voice. So sad.
They tried to sexualise this child like a Lolita and dressed her as a hypersexualised school girl & made her sing like a little girl.. the industry is sick & so are it’s consumers. Hope she finds freedom. This woman grew up in a cage.
well that's how she got famous and made a lot of money. but a little pitty that the chance to grow as a great vocalist and get recognized seems to have been lost if she had not been forced to sing like a child
@JENAIAH GOGUETTE she didn't let people do so, she's under a conservatorship since 2008. she was going on hearings to change that but the pandemic got in the way.
MrLennybach not at ALL lol she struggled with her mental health and media took advantage of this, she was far from whiny. Every single video, interview, even her documentaries she was always such a sweet girl with a goofy kind personality
Ruined her life..???!?! Yeah please ruin my life and make me a multi multi millionaire, where my children grandchildren will never have to work a day of their life. Moron!
The industry over sexualized her against her will. She was in a similar situation as Megan Fox, being used as an object for money, and forced to stay silent. We love you Britney, and I think we all owe her an apology.
Angie Pucci huh? forcing a voice for years that isn’t anywhere near your natural voice is very damaging, especially considering for how long she’s done it.
@@xiomara.mon7711 I don't think it's right in any way but I believe she can sing organically again. She is an amazing soul and deserves to have a pure unfiltered album as she hits her 40s. She is awonderful talent and as fans we must encourage her to just be herself.
@@DrFeelGoood it's not that she was singing too high for her natural voice, it is that her high register was trained, forced to sound the way it sounds, like a little girl
No,it's already late, because of that shit company has damaged Britney's vocal chords for many years! I feel really sorry for Britney, she's a victim of this cruel industry.
@J. O. she wanted to be a contemporary artist. the label didnt allow her because they wanted to make her to do pop music and felt she could do good for ratings and music sales
My guess is you had to either really kill it (such as the divas of the time : Christina, Celine, Mariah, Whitney) or be kinda bubblegum poppy and digestable for a 12 year old girl to listen to. Though she was GREAT she was not at the level of those divas. An example that comes to mind is Mandy Moore. Though Mandy sang in her real voice and IMO was one of the best, she didn't have the vocal ability others did.. and kinda was just semi-successful (in comparison to Aguilera and Spears) 12 year old me preferred Britney because it was easy to listen and sing along to. I don't believe she would have had the success she did had she sang in her real voice. But maybe given how fame has damaged her that wouldn't have been such a bad thing.
Her belted notes weren’t resonant, she lowered her larynx a lot! I wished she would have used her natural voice it would have sounded much better. But the girl had potential and it’s so sad that the shitty industry ruined her.
D. A. She’s obviously a contralto and had very powerful lows but she didn’t sing in a correct way, she lowered her larynx a lot it’s almost like she got something stuck in her nose and throat... Aguilera obviously lowered hers as well, she still does to this day, but hers sounded natural and she also did runs and melismas, belted, falsettos etc. it’s a shame that Britney Spears could have been one of the bests if she had more interest as Aguilera had
Eles pediram pra ela cantar de uma determinada forma ,fazendo uma voz fechada, que não alcançava a potência natural da voz dela, que pena💔 Britney é incrível
Different from what? Queen latifah maybe. But legit she's undistinguishable. Close your eyes and she sounds like Mayam Bialik. Her voice was twisted to become a recognizable brand
The last song she's singing is 1986's "You got it all" by The Jets, a band from Tonga with a 12 year old lead singer. Was a huge hit in the '80s. Great song.
I wish she could sing like this NOW.. i like to see her focus more on singing and less dancing..I Love Brit but im kinda sad that i don't see her doing any live..
Barbie Lopez well she tried to do that with her unreleased album “Original Doll”. You can look up “Mona Lisa” from that album. Her record label Jive was furious and banned it. They have been censoring her from the beginning.
+Almelia She can decide to sign or not to sign, she cannot be just a puppet who dances and make lypsinc. If she wanted she could just not sign a new contract as Jive wants
Blueberry Cupcake but she's still In a contract and until that one is closed or finished or whatever, she can't really do anything, that's why she can't do this NOW
Locking up your child in a virtual prison and taking all their hard earned money and possessions, as well as her children (although she got them back after a while). The man needs help if he thinks any of what he is doing is acceptable.
The world puts so much pressure on all of us. The best we can do is try to do what makes us happy and keeps us healthy in the challenging times we live in.
I am just a few months younger than Britney Spears and I did not know until today that she could actually sing that really breaks my heart to know what they made her sound like instead of how amazing she actually was.
For anyone who doesn’t understand what’s meant by “real voice” - when her debut album was in production the studio execs decided her voice was too similar to those of her peers, like Christina, and wanting to separate her from the other mouse pack and turn her into a brand they hired someone to come in and RETRAIN her to sing in a little baby voice. The execs thought that it would be more sexy if she sang like a little girl and way more marketable. But it’s way to high for her. Her real voice is much lower. This is bad for her vocal chords and is shredding her voice, which is why she HAS to lip sing so much. Awhile back she wanted to record an album using her real voice and kind of reinvent herself so the public could get to know her on a more intimate level. But as soon as they found out her real voice would be used they shelved the project and wouldn’t let her continue. She really is controlled from top to bottom.
That really clicks for me, makes sense. I had always assumed she just wasn't able to perform as hard if she sang live bc she'd be out of breath and the girl has always danced/performed her ass off!
@Dennis look it up on google if you want the full details but the short version is when she had her mental breakdown her father took her to court so he could control all of her work decisions and personal ones too so she literally cant do anything without her fathers say so and he prefers the money over his daughters wellbeing
@Dennis She was. She was already with RCA and Disney. They were both in The MMC. Christina was known in the industry for her voice. Reflections from Mulan came out in 1998, even before Baby One More Time.
Jennifer Brigitte, Christina’s Reflection didn’t chart, and wasn’t commercially successful on the Billboard Hot 100 or most radio formats. So I doubt that was the reason why the label had Britney sing in a different register. The label saw an opportunity for her to be Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, Samantha Fox and they went for it. If anything Britney’s success is what made record labels search for their own Britney’s which is why Christina, Jessica Simpson and Mandy Moore we’re forced to record more bubble gum Britney sounds. Originally Christina was supposed to be an Adult Contemporary Celine Dion type of singer (listen to her EP Just Be Free) for what type of sound she was peddling in 1996-1998 before being signed to RCA. Britney originally wanted to sing “Sheryl Crow” kind of music, but the label wanted something more similar to the Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys and **NSYNC. Jessica wanted to be a gospel artist.
It makes me sad. I know no one will make a documentary or talk about what really happened to her until she’s dead. Nobody cares until they’re dead. I’m so sorry for all the pain Hollywood caused you, Britney ❤️
Cuz pop was defined by Madonna and her "girly" timbre. Prior to Madonna, there was Olivia Newton-John. And on the B-list there were gals like Belinda Carlisle.
@@TehKaiser pop was NOT defined by Madonna. She was just a landmark in it. Britney could have went another route but her label was a bunch of pervy fucknuggets that is the real issue. That's why she was forced to put on a baby voice
Are you kidding. So she can sing. All my entire life I thought she is appreciated for her appearance and dances. The question is why. Why did America hide she is a real singer.
wow, she really is adorable and so talented in many ways. i like how when she opens up, she really is feeling it, which makes me feel so much. to me, that's what a true artist should be able to do, and britney doesn't disappoint
Christina Aguilera once said in an interview that she knew Britney could sing deep and better as she did in the MMC. She never understood why she changed her voice or style of singing.
it's what the producers wanted, it's what they thought would sell her out as a singer. if she stuck to that "diva" voice, she wouldn't have been as successful. they got what they wanted, sadly, it ruined her as person.
@@rapturescoming honestly not sure what you mean, but Christina was able to keep her diva voice and it paid off well for her. Maybe that's why she was confused Britney actually changed her voice.
Because Britney had the doe-eyed look to be sold as the "Born Sexy Yesterday" thing and producers knew it would sell and it did. Ariana Grande also happens to fit that niche, she just has a voice that matches better/the experience that she didn't require as much finessing at the hands of the industry. But, that's the market and if you look at how many full-grown men were positively drooling at Brit when she was way too young for them, you can see it worked. It's gross to me but there is absolutely a huge market for young women who are physically sexy in an adult way but still project a lot of cute in a non-adult way that reads as young and naive.
I don’t see anything special when it comes to her voice. She’s just brave, beautiful, young, with the right connections, and that’s why she got through.
I'm SHOCKED! Never realized she was a child prodigy. I had no clue she was so much more talented than many knew and for how long she'd been pushed onto the stage. No wonder she's having problems. These people who surround her have been making money off her since she was a TODDLER! HEARTBREAKING.! Oh, Britney . Evil came your way, poor dear, beautiful innocent TALENT.
Yea she was . I read in some magazins before in early 2000s probably, that her Family was so poor that they'd perform in some other city and get back home the same night, cs they couldn't afford a hotel. While the others participants would stay back, take rest. She was the Cash cow.
let me shock you a bit more then! she was on disney mickey mouse club, together with justin timberlake and christina aguilera (and ryan gosling, but yk he doesnt sing so whatever ) :D they were all child prodigies, who are still well known and loved today. it's so fascinating they all got discovered around the same time. there are mayn documentaris about her life and the freebritney movement, her entire life this far has been rather sad and i'm glad she got back some of her control
Everytime I read the stories about the music industry taking a raw talent, and shaping them to their liking and controlling their image to sell to the most, I feel like it's directly inspired by her. It was taken to such an extreme with her that they didn't even make use of her actual abilities anymore.
She breaks my heart. She’s such a sensitive person - you can see it in her eyes - and people have abused that and taken advantage of her and exploited her. All the sparkle that she used to have in her eyes is missing. The world broke her.
She break my heart She's such A sensitive person- you can see it in her eyes-& people have abused that and thaken afvantage OF HEr & exploited her.all. The sparkle that she used to have in her eyes is missing the world broke her
They forced her out of using her real voice because they didn’t want her to compete with Christina Aguilera since they came from the Mickey Mouse club together. Her label also thought it would “sell” better
Mental health IS an issue and should be taken into account but music industries as always prefer to make profit and take advantage of their 'products'......
He record label made her change the way she sang so she wouldn't compete with Christina. The change has nothing to do with her mental health...but pleasing her label, her parents, now she is a prisoner of herself. Anyone would literally lose their shit if they have/are going through what she has/is going through. She is their money machine.
@@sha-naynay18 There are godmode people dropping like flies from acts of god (RIP Michael Brooks) and you can only insult people doing their best and at least having the grace to be alive.
Wow, this melted my heart, so beautiful and sweet, she sounded and looked so sweet and amazing, like she still do ❤ But it pains me that someone wanted to change anything, everything was perfect already❤
This is the Michael Jackson Syndrome, all over again. Take a child, that sings, sounds and acts like an adult, then when they become an adult, make them sing, sound and act like a child. It's the ambiguity of it all that is so bizarre...
@Kibbles N bits the sad thing is, they would have had to have given him some serious estrogen to keep his voice like that. No wonder he was so androgynous
Totally. It's actually really common that young people who experience trauma end up "getting stuck" in some ways at that age as far as maturity level and behavior are concerned. So, as they become adults, it becomes more noticeable, because they are not maturing and can't cope like most adults do.
@@smccreery86 yes. She also has the adult behaviour of a (dare I say it) sexually abused child. I'm sure this is a factor in her behavior. If u search up, "mk ultra: kids", she seems like a perfect example. And yes, parents have done this to their own kids. The same mental effect happens to children abused; their minds break, and when somewhat put back together, they are easily controlled, but can have meltdowns. Its tragic
She s saying that Britney had a natural contralto, only 2% of women are contralto as Cristina is a mezzo soprano, anyway Cristina has a great voice, but Britney too
U can't say christina would want that when u don't know her christina might be happy with what she got christina has a powerful voice even though I'm a huge huge britney fan I'm still realistic about singers voice and ill love britney no matter what
Christina doesn't want anything that is shown in this video at all. She has an insane range and her own singing style, that's why you hear people saying "that sounds like Christina Aguilera". As for Britney, I think she was forcibly imitating stronger singers when she was younger but it's true that she had a darker tone than the actual baby-ish sound used in most of her records. However I hear the baby-ish sound somewhere in the voice that she has in these videos and I hear this voice in her very first hits such as Baby One More Time, I think her real problem, after she had hit puberty, became singing in tune live which has nothing to do with one's tone. The good thing about Britney in these videos is that she could sustain long notes (00:36). That's what she actually lost. However I don't know why Britney fans are making comparisons with Xtina, they didn't sound alike. Britney used and still uses lots of vocal fry and her tone was always more nasal (00:48 ain't nobody crying). Christina sounds utterly different, not even remotely similar. She has smooth low notes, falsetto, head voice, range, power, roars and stuff like that.
Christina actually has a natural deep voice lol, watch her I Have Nothing back when she's 14. It's even deeper than what she has right now. Her failure to adjust to her mix is what makes her voice screamy rn. She has a deep voice, with a very unique tone, great diaphragm and pipes. She just failed to improve her technique.
The reason I really didn't like Brittany Spears music was the fact that her voice sounded so fake. I hear her real voice and somehow I feel like society got robbed.
Her belting was actually super strong and her vibrato is excellent when she is able to sing lower. That was her true potential. I will always have a soft spot for Britney.
Yeah beautiful chest voice, I feel like at the time the only women using their lower register in pop had r&b influences, and I think the label didn't know how to market that for her, also they tended to be belters either way. Nowadays if she was just starting, there's been so much advancement in production options and so much evolution in what counts as pop that she would've been able to develop her natural voice without being forced into that baby breathy head voice she's known for.
I love everytime sm but it is far from close! Her unreleased songs from 1997 (when she was 15) are record with her real voice! the vocals were amazing and underrated!
