I think "Git R Done" is where they went because of Larry the Cable Guy making the phrase A Thing, except he's not from Texas.

Is Git R Done like a regional thing in Texas? I’ve never heard of this phrase before today. On second thought I haven’t heard of most of the terminology said throughout the video.

Except raising cane's is bland af without their sauce.

It depends on age and region if some of those are used or not. I' a 50 yr old born and raised Texan, I lived there for the first 40 years of my life. Only one I'd say I never heard was the "That dog don't hunt." But I may not have heard it because I stayed in the DFW metro area. My mom was from the panhandle and had some different slang. A few words I heard but not same definition as this. "Raisin' Cain" is to cause to be lively or create mayhem. "Get R done" ? = nope it was "Git 'er done" and meant to " go do it" as in "I already gave you a chore, now git 'er done!"

That's about right. I grew up in South Texas, land of the free and the home of the brave,. My family always said howdy. Now everyone says hi. Makes me wonder what this world is a coming to.

Yes it is my grandparents both maternal and paternal were saying them and they were born and raised in Texas well actually I just remembered my paternal grandpa was born in New Mexico but raised in Texas.

The dfw area doesn’t really use much of the “common” slang that isn’t accurately common Springtown needs less California

I'm from Houston, and we English speakers say things like "where is the baño", "una mas cervesa, por favor", "see you mañana" and so on. Even my mom from the Midwest says these things all the time.

Things definitely vary throughout the state. I have never in my life even heard some of these things said let alone know what they mean and I've lived in this state my entire life.

@@mictlante Sorry I gotta laugh because... you're right! XD I'm 50 yrs old and was born (Corpus Christi) & raised (DFW metro) in Texas, didn't move out until 40. I heard most of those, except "that dog don't hunt" and "corn-fed". While I heard most of them, some of those words had different meaning or was only half of the phrase. "Git R Done" was "git 'er done" and wasn't a filler phrase, instead it was 'go do it' or 'get to it' = "I already gave you a chore, now git 'er done!" Frankly, I have to wonder if they got this "filler phrase" from a Southern comedian from 90s/2000s (contemporary of Tim Allen) that would use it as his catch phrase and would throw it in his jokes all the time, often at the end of them ...and I don't know if that guy was from Texas or not. All I really remember about him was rolling my eyes at just how often he'd use the phrase. Some I did use as shown= Dad gum it! interchangeable with dag nap it! (thanks Elmer Fudd!) was a fave as a kid back in the 70s as it was seen as a "kid friendly" version of a swear to express frustration or disappointment. Conniption- that's only half of it= "conniption fit" meaning to throw a hissy fit, to make a fuss about something.

Definitely not eastern Texas. I live in the North East and we have a very generic American accent without the use of any slang.

These are more like words from Oklahoma than Texas. I've said all these words as have my family, and we're all from Oklahoma.

I’m from Dallas. I feel like a lot of this is stuff people in East or west Texas would say or stuff old Texans would say. I used to work at Waffle House and the old regulars would say some of this

I'm VERY impressed with how well the actors in The Walking Dead do Southern accents. They do it much better than American non-Southerners. Anybody remember suffering through the TV show "Dallas"?

Exactly! I am from Louisiana we use some of these. I live in Texas and rarely hear any of these once you're outside of East Texas, Dallas and Houston ( the Deep South portion of Texas).

Are you from Austin? In Houston and East Texas in general, cowboy hats and most of these phrases are everywhere. Texas doesn’t claim Austin anymore. - born in Galveston, raised in Houston, live in East Texas
