Brits in Spain rally against loss of rights after Brexit

(25 Mar 2017) Almost a hundred Spaniards and Brits joined together in Madrid on Saturday to urge lawmakers to protect the rights of citizens following the UK's exit from the European Union.
They made their case as part of a gathering to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the EU's foundation.
The EU anniversary comes four days before the British government plans to trigger negotiations to break from the 28-nation bloc after the country voted to leave in a referendum in June.
On Wednesday, the EU's chief Brexit negotiator said that failure to reach an orderly agreement on the UK's exit could leave four million European and British citizens uncertain about their rights and future.
Many of the protesters of British nationality residing in Spain have shown their discontent amid mounting concern over their future rights.

I too am an Expat with a residential proof over 25 years ago as a widow here in Spain. Plus my father was Spanish R. I. P. We are too old to move back in UK which would kill us ie cold climate change for our immune systems. Let alone the awful political State the government is in against the European countries. More businesses, banks, doctors etc etc have left for Europe already. So allow us oldies live our final years out in the warmth of Spain and kind locals. My dead husband paid all his self employed tax to British government ALL his life. The little pension I recieve is naff compared to other European countries. I thank all the expats showing courage rallying to stay in Europe permanently, wish I could join you but can never travel again due to ill health. Bless you All. Carina

It seems a lot of British Brexiteers that live on the island get angry when they are their fellow citizens' rights attacked that live on the continent as long as their are Brexiteers but discriminate against those who are Remainers for having left the country. I am very surprised. I am since I am 26 an immigrant in different countries. But I am a citizen of my country if birth. Mine is giving me the right to vote, my passport and if I need real helo (war), they bring me out. Personally I have decided, that I would only vote in my country, if I have the feeling it is in danger. But a referendom which is affecting me as a citizen, I would vote and should have the right.

I remember watching this and thinking this is why Brexit won, the reason being there wasn't one Union Jack amongst any of them, they couldn't even bring themselves to have a Union Jack and the EU stars beside each other on a pole, it showed exactly what they thought of their original country.

Here we are in 2019 almost. Yet the brits continue to be isolationist and frankly narrow minded. It's not the EU migrants causing a lot of friction. How about Pakistanis and other muslims? I'm English living overseas and have a rich life in the EU and Australia. I'm very lucky. It shits on living in the UK.

A lot of us still pay UK income tax so why shouldnt we have a say. Brits who have lived outside the UK for more than 15 years were not allowed to vote but a lot of them still pay UK income tax.
