New England averaged almost 24,000 fans last season, reaching up to 30,000 for the biggest games. Obviously Messi does make a huge difference. But having said that, most fans at this game were rooting for the home team
Miami the city is super Latino and you can honestly live there and only speak Spanish. That's part of the reason Messi moved there. They also have a huge Argentine diaspora there. I believe Messi and Anto, his wife, have relatives in Miami as well. That played a big role in Messi's move there.
Yes they do . Antonela’s cousin ( Lucas scaglia ) lives here in Miami with his wife and their 2 sons . I think Messi’s sister and brother in law recently moved to Miami as well .
I work at Audi field (dc United stadium) and when Messi came it was not really Miami fans. It was mostly Argentina fans and just ppl just wanting to see Messi.
I went to this game with a few friends. I live a state away in Connecticut, we were only there to support Messi, as I’ve watched him since I was 11 and I’m now 22. People were mostly there to see messi about 80%. The game sold out at 65k and the Revs average 20k. I sat around some revs fans trying to cheer their team on but it was mostly everyone else was to watch Messi . Also the average ticket price for this game was 285$, more than a patriots game. And tickets for the next revs game at home vs Philadelphia are going for 18$.
I live in Miami. I used to pay less than $15 dollars to sit in one of the front rows before Messi came. Now you can't get in the building for less than $150. 😂😂 I have only been to two games since Messi came. But it's still worth it.
I think MLS actually has a pretty good, dedicated fans base for all the teams. but everywhere Messi is going (home and away) tickets are selling out fast in advance and a lot are being resold at insane prices. I was in Miami last year and wanted to go watch him and tickets were starting at 10k after being sold out the moment Messi stepped off the plane in Miami
Been to Miami at NYC last year and Miami at New England this weekend. All the fans are there for Messi -> all the fans are in Miami pink or Argentina blue. When Revolution went up 1 nil after a minute all the kids around me didn't know what to make of it - they were totally distraught and their worlds were turned upside down -> because they think Messi is a superhero incapable of loss. One of them was pleading/whining 'Messi! DOOOO SOMETHING!!!!!!'. The kids all think Sergio B's last name is 'Biscuits' like the food. It's pretty funny, kinda cute. But ... fans all there for Messi, was same when Miami filled Arrowhead in Kansas City a few weekends ago.
We were at this game and the majority of the fans were there for Messi. We cheer for the Revs but it was surreal watching Messi. EVERYONE cheered when Messi scored. And he was so great and acknowledged the fans more than once. Not the result we wanted but it was still an amazing night.
Revs fan here, we usually get 20k per regular season, and we do play at Gillette every week. Crows was mostly drawn by messi, but there were still a lot of revs fans.
I live in S. Florida and Spanish is the majority language in Miami Dade County. French Creole is also very common due to the large Haitian population. Yes, Messi is basically a traveling show in the US right now. Most fans are there to see him. I never knew we had so many Argentinians here. ❤️😉
If you look at actual footage of fans, there’s usually a good amount of home team fans at the games (of course not as many as Messi’s) When Messi travels to play, it also encourages the home side fans to show up and they love talking smack on Messi. So both sides benefit from his presence when it comes to fans
He doesn't need to speak English here in Miami. You can go your whole life down here and never have to utter an English word. I would say a little of both. MLS fanbase is definitely growing #GOHERONS
There's plenty of soccer fans that don't really come out for MLS. But they would for Messi. Also, any star player from South or Central America is going to have a large turnout due to the huge immigrant population here. Also the Revolution play all their games at Foxboro. It's just usually to a largely empty stadium.
It depends on where they play and who the home team is. Arrowhead was mostly kansas city fans. Gillette had a good revs fan turnout id probably saw was about half. The rest was messi fans. They like soccer, but not mls. So they show up for messi.
i don‘t know the number of the top of my head but messi scored quite a few with his right great goals too he just stopped using it as he got older for some reason. looked it up by 2023 he had scored 101 with his right, so about 120 now i reckon
My good friend went to the game. Called it Messi League soccer. She's also a Patriots fan and I told her the Patriots would also make for a good MLS team
Miami is not an English speaking city. 90% of the city speaks Spanish. When you walk around outside of the tourist areas (and Fort Lauderdale) you’ll only hear Spanish.
I wanted to go and I met the director of the track when I was in Kentucky last year. We did not have time to visit track as we were there for ThanksGiving at a friends house. I will be back for it as it is on bucket list!
Yes the Messi effect is real but he also had nothing to do with LAFC vs LA galaxy at rose bowl which has 82,000 people at that game. Also Nashville vs Atlanta had almost a sold out game of like 70,000. However Atlanta United has been averaging 45,000 people per game since they came into the league in 2018. Messi is more or less pouring gas on fire of MLS that’s already growing tremendously. Ticket sales, jersey sales are up huge because of Messi.

Miami, NYC, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, LA, Pheonix, and many other cities in the US southwest … you can live your whole life and only speak Spanish. You’d get along just fine
@@johnstark254 you’re right. If someone wants to succeed beyond a Joe job, got to speak English in the USA. I live in the Southwest Border. I can see Mexico from my front yard. It’s a bilingual life and town. Those who only speak English or Spanish, but not both, have much fewer opportunities.
I think you mean to say a good number Americans speak Spanish as they are of Mexican descent. Definitely wouldn’t say most Americans speak Spanish Edit: Latino descent
No... they can't. As of 2022 around 17% of the US population can speak Spanish as either their first language or a secondary one. So no, MOST Americans can not speak Spanish.
