I once sat on a rooftop in a cool area in Baltimore and watch the Blue Angels fly over. The power and speed of those jets in person is breathtaking. Some experiances stick with you in life because you're lucky to have them. That day was one of those, I was lucky.

The Blues, T-birds and Golden Knights are all demonstration teams whos sole purpose is to fly airshows so the general public gets to see and experiance what their tax dollars are buying. After the show the pilots make themselves available to the crowds to sign autographs and answer question. The entire group, pilots, maintenance people, support people of all kinds come for the ranks of active duty, and have to apply for their position. Its VERY competitive. If selected, their commitment is at least 2 years or 3 years in some cases. Once you join the team, that is your full time job. As for the pilots, they are either training, flying in an airshow, (pretty much every weekend from March thru Nov,) rehearsing for an upcoming airshow, or flying from one airshow to the other. Its more than a full-time job. Once your tour is over you go back to the fleet possibly as an instructor. Flying the super close formations is not used in combat situations so that level of precision is not taught to all pilots as it takes several months to learn and get good at and is hugely expensive and serves no purpose for a combat pilot. Just looks cool. Same is true with continuous flying upside down. No tactical reason to do that for extended periods. But it sure looks cool, (and is cool) at airshows.

F/A-18 Hornet: Empty weight: 23,000 lb (10,433 kg) / landing speed: 155 mph/250 kph / Separation: .5 m (18 inches). Imagine if your after work commute involved taking an 11,000 kg (24,000 lbs)aircraft, traveling at 250 kph (155 mph) and put it on a spot the size of a football pitch, that is moving in all three directions at the same time. The runway is angled to your direction of travel, so you have to slide sideways. Now, it's 2:00 am, people have been trying to kill you at work, and your home is in a storm at sea. That is why they are never called "pilots". They are Naval Aviators!!

They are the US Navy flight demonstration team. They train to do a show that is choreographed and lasts about 45 minutes. They go to a new location each week during their demonstration season. The purpose of the Blue Angels is to demonstrate their abilities and inspire people to join the Navy. The jets get within 18 inches of each other during the show which is amazing in person.

They have ejection seats. On many of the seats, you will see two loops on the top of the seat back. Those are the ejection handles. If they are going to eject, they pull their feet against the front of the seat and reach up to pull the handles. When they climbed into the plane and strapped in, they were hooked into the parachute that was built into the seat. After they pull the handles, the canopy is first blown off and then the seat ejects. The seat frame itself falls away, and the parachute deploys.

I saw the Blue Angels when one plane had an in flight mechanical issue and during the group maneuver that plane smoothly left the formation and flew low so he didn't disrupt the group. Meanwhile the formation shifted the group formation to adjust for the missing plane and continued the performance. They are prepared for every contingency. The missing plane landed smoothly and on ground support personnel were waiting to fix the malfunction. Remember the pilot was probably communicating the issue with the ground crew so they were ready for him to land. The electronics and avionics are modular "black boxes" that literally plug in in many instances so the component was replaced quickly and within just a few minutes, the plane was fixed and we saw it take off at a very low and discrete altitude in the opposite direction from the ongoing formation. As the formation continued the next maneuver the now repaired plane smoothly merged into the formation which shifted positions to allow for the plane to take its normal position and the group flew on as if nothing had ever happened. No doubt they were well practiced in such situations because the entire performance was FLAWLESS!!!! These guys are PROFESSIONALS and capable of incredible things. OUTSTANDING !!!!!

"The jets themselves look nicely done" Those aircraft were literally the biggest piles go junk in the NAVY inventory, often they are airframes that are or about to be retired. It is a huge point of pride to the maintainers as well as the pilots that they are given piles of junk, literally the worst of the worst, and make them not only flight worthy but gleaming gems that are literal icons. Crews will completely tear down the airframes and slowly rebuild them, often on their days often, to the state you seem them while flying and on display. It sends a message to the rest of the fleet that anything can be done when t's done with pride and dedication.

They're flying in the Pacific Northwest Seattle, Washington. The Blue Angels, are a flight demonstration team, it also helps to recruit new potential pilots. When they have these, Americans are allowed on Airforce Bases to see all of the different aircraft fly, and to look at all of the different aircraft on the ground. And go in, and through some of them. The Blue Angels, go to several different cities across the US. Also different countries. These are Navy and Marine Pilots. Their are also Air Force Pilots, called the Thunderbirds, their also a flight demonstration team. This is the Pilots job. Their are several different videos from the crowds view point, that show you all the different maneuvers they do. Yes they do have ejection seats. The boats are because, it's what they call Seafair days in Seattle. They have these, also Navy Ships, a lot of different things going on, including a Parade, in Downtown Seattle. You really need to watch a video, from the ground, what the crowds watch. This was a Pilots view.

19:05 fighter jets have ejection seats that the pilot activates when the aircraft is unable to be landed safely. First, the canopy opens and detaches from the aircraft. Second, the pilot seat is ejected from the aircraft and an attached parachute opens for the descent.

As other commentators have stated they are a precision flight team representing the US NAVY. They have even flown demonstrations in Moscow and other Russian cities.. The US AIR FORCE has it's own flying team known as the THUNDERBIRDS. Both teams have flown joint aerial demonstrations out here at Pt. MUGU and EL CENTRO military installations in California and throughout the world. In fact they have flown with the UK'S REDARROWS (your equivalent). I didn't read all the comments but it looks as though they are flying off the Florida Keys. And it is quite common to see all those private boats.

The Blue Angels are the U.S.'s premier formation aerobatic demonstration team. They fly for airshows and other special events. The pilots will be with them for 2-3 years and during that time that is their full time job. Once their time is up with the Angels they will go back to the fleet and re-join a regular squadron. If there is a problem with the aircraft they do have an ejection seat but that is the absolute last resort. They will do everything they can to get the aircraft on the ground in a controlled manor. If they eject, the plane will become essentially an unguided bomb. Also ejecting can cause physical damage to the pilot.
@darraha
@darraha 2 месяца назад
They have an ejection system. It's typically a handle under the seat. When pulled, it'll fire the canopy over the pilot. Then it will basically fire the pilot out of the aircraft like a rocket. They have a parachute, and a rescue team on standby.

Flight demonstration teams like the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds perform throughout the world, particularly over North America. In one scene, the Blue Angels are over Chicago during the Air & Water Show (the reason for all the boats). A former public affairs officer told me the team goes over the patterns they will fly in a conference room then practice over the venue for one or two days prior to the demonstration. These displays promote the US military as well as display the skill of Navy aviators. They are flying the earlier F/A-18A Hornet. The Blue Angels recently adopted the bigger Super Hornet that is now standard throughout the US Navy but some are being replaced by the F-35 Lightning II.

gotta remember too, this is so thoroughly planned that at every stage of the performance in these tight formations, there's a safe escape plan and everybody knows in the event of an emergency to go their assigned direction to get away from the issue, that emergency could be anything from pilot error, a mechanical issue with one jet, or a bird in the area that could damage one of them, i saw an interview where a pilot for one of these teams explained an incident where half of the formation loosened up mid turn because they were headed at a bird, the bird changed paths and the team reformed within seconds while the lead never broke the turn

The middle half of the video was shot over Seattle as part of the Seafair festival. 360 mph = 575 km/h. Need to do 160 mph or so just to get off the ground. The GoPro camera mounted in the cockpit does distort the view a little due to the wide angle lens. To get on the team, you need to be a top-ranked pilot. Then your time with the team is 2 years. Then you go back to your regular pilot job. All fighter planes have rocket-propelled ejection seats. In the shots over Seattle, you see a line of boats in the lake. These boats are in the "debris zone" in case of collisions of the planes and require special waivers to be there. The team travels with 1-2 extra planes in case of emergencies. The last time I saw the Blue Angels live, one of the planes had radio problems and the pilot needed to swap planes just after the show started. The specialty flying they do is purely for the air shows. It does showcase what the planes are capable of doing. These flight teams are technically part of the recruiting divisions.

OK, the Blue Angels is the U.S. Navy's flight demonstration team, it is a recruitment command, from March to October, they fly at different airshows across the United States, they do on occasion perform internationally, the pilots are in fact active duty U.S. Navy and USMC fleet pilots, if they get accepted to fly with the Blue Angels, it is a SHORE duty assignment for 2 years, then they go back out to the fleet, there is "USUALLY" 5 primary U.S. Navy, Naval Aviators and 1 USMC Naval Aviator in the show team, with an additional 5 U.S. Navy, Naval Aviators and 1 USMC Naval Aviator as backups, typically, the backup team does training usually out of site of the public, and their second year on the team they are the primary team, quite frequently the U.S. Navy Blue angels fly as close as 12 inches away from the next jet, (IN SOME OF THEIR TIGHTER FORMATIONS) although they do advertise 18 inches, because they fly so close, they also fly without the use of G-Suits, so yes they do this for the public, nearly every weekend during the summer season.

At almost every location before the show, they will take a civilian person up (usually a reporter) up in a 2 seater for a flight. Some of these are fun to watch the in cockpit film of the flight.

Yes they have ejection seats….if you look at some of the cockpit views you can see gray straps going over their thighs, those two and two more attached to their ankles are designed to secure their legs against the seat in the event of an ejection. When I got to fly with them in Blue Angel 7 that took the longest time to get attached to the seat but boy was it a great 2 hour ride!!

They are flying out of their base in Jacksonville, Florida. They are experienced combat pilots but also part of an exhibition team that travels around the world. When in Florida, they do a show once a week in that area. The Air Force also has an exbition team called the Thunderbirds.

They are a demonstration team for air shows. This is in Seattle Washington. And they can not stay in the air unless they fly at least 200 plus. Also they can easily climb to 30,000 feet in a few minutes.

One thing you notice is that they look at each other while flying ,and not a head of themselves. Like the beginning take off, the pilot in the foreground is watching his wingman and only looks forward when he breaks ground. Another fact Blue Angels don't wear G suits.

You cannot parachute from low altitudes because the parachute would not have time to open and slow the descent. The ejection seat has rockets that would propel the pilot high enough to safely parachute to the ground. The forces of the ejection seat can injure the pilot. I recall an incident from Air Force days when a plane malfunctioned upon takeoff. The electronics support officer ejected. The pilot stayed with plane while it crashed back onto the runway. The pilot had no injuries. The electronics support officer survived but broke both of his legs.

Blue Angel pilots are regular fleet pilots that are selected to serve 2 - 3 years. They train on the maneuvers for just a few months before starting to do shows.

Imagine the air turbulence in the middle and rear. The air gets really chopped up by both the aircraft and the jet exhaust. It's like flying on waves, but remaining very nearly highly stable.

Theres a handle you pull that hlows off the canopy and blows you out of the plane. Then your parachute opens and you land on the ground or in the water. As soon as you hit the water your life preserver inflates. The homing signal lets the Navy know exactly where you are.

The jets have ejection seats. The canopy is ejected and then the seat has small rockets that propel the seat and pilot clear of the aircraft.

They have two methods to eject from the plane. Their seat have rockets that blast them away from the plane. Some of the locations are over Seattle Washington where you see a lot of boats for the air show. You will also notice the pilots are not wearing G suits.

19:35 Yes, they have rocket-propelled ejection seats that launch them out of the aircraft in an extreme emergency. They then parachute down to earth.

There is an outstanding documentary on Amazon Prime produced by J. J. Abrams about the training the Blue Angels go through. It'll show how the go from standard "Navy" separation down to "Yankee" separation , approximately 18 inches. Both of these videos are great but you really need to keep an eye out. The Blues occasionally travel to the UK you absolutely need to see them. Nothing beats seeing them in person

More than likely these are all taken from various air shows mostly in the US. The US Navy Blue Angels perform worldwide. They are a demonstration team that advertises the US Navy, naval aviation and capabilities. The US Military is an all volunteer force and competes with private industry like airlines for such highly skilled people so an air show helps recruit new Sailors. Like the football game flyovers, these shows connect the less than 1% of Americans serving in the US military with the American people and our allies they defend. Their home base is Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida. One city is definitely Seattle Washington and the Puget Sound, a couple of shots look like Tampa, Florida too. I could be wrong and its all in Seattle, Washington. Fortunately, they have two engines on these fighter jets, F-18's. Once the pilot pulls the emergency handles by his shoulder, exploding bolts release the canopy and a rocket pushes the seat away from the plane. The pilot then separates from the seat and his parachute deploys. You can see this in the movie, Top Gun. The pilot will first ensure the plane is heading away from densely populated areas.
