Yeah but for America we’ve really only had 1 “gonna be the greatest ever” type and that was Freddy Adu at 14 years old as well, and it did not end well.. but think we’ve learned a ton since our academies, coaching and scouting have come a long way from 20 years ago when it happened to Freddy. Does say something man city have already agreed to buy him for 5 mill at 18 but the chances of him ever playing for the are still slim.
@@AdamGee8 The media should leave the young promises alone and not put that tag "the next Messi", one of those "next" was also bought by Man City in 2020, and in 6 months they sent him on loan (without playigng a single match), never returned to the team and today they are selling him, never adapted to the level. Barcelona had "the next Messi", coming from their academy, and they sold him (he played a few matches). Diablito Echeverri (River Plate) was bought two months ago by Man City, Barcelona and Chelsea wanted him too. And also the media said "the next Messi" a lot of pressure for young players from the last 8-9 years.
From the US side of the pond. It's just a new and quite brilliant thing to see our youth developing in this beautiful game. We our a century behind at least, but it's great to see the US start to do something right in this sport. Btw, while this game has never been popular in the professional sense....that is changing rapidly and....soccer has been the #1 youth sport for the last 50 years in the US.
The Freddy Adu comparisons are way off-base, in my view. We didn't even have academies when Freddy Adu came up, and Adu was deliberately hyped by MLS itself as a marketing ploy. The state of the game in the US today is totally unrecognizable from what it was in the early 2000s. Cavan Sullivan has a very clear, progressive path to high levels of soccer/football, from the youth team to the Union senior team to one of CFG's subsidiary clubs to, potentially, Man City itself, and Cavan Sullivan has a whole team around him. He'll blow Freddy Adu out of the water, even if he never plays a minute for Man City
I'm hoping we will one day get our own world class player, but it does feel like they are rushing him a bit. He's barely played for the Union II team. I guess in theory he will be able to practice with better players and coaches on the senior reserve roster.
And tbh, Cavan doesnt even look THAT good... I mean, he is clearly a talented kid, but, I for one doesnt see any similarities with a 15 year old Messi. If you ever watched 15 year old Messi at Barca's youth Academy, he was running circles around grown men and Barca's main team during practices. Messi is the RARE case where you can just know he is a superstar above all others.
@JonHop1 tbf Sullivan has been playing with grown men as well. I like this kid because his football iq and first touch along with passes are pretty top notch. But I don't know anyone calling him the next Messi other than "jornalists" trying to click bait
Stop comparing him to Freddy Adu, Adu was never that good and he was playing against MLS players that were terrible. This kid is actually 14 and he's already able to compete in MLS games.
@@FullMetalAttackTitan9tailsHerodude we saw Messi struggle for trophies at the international level for YEARS because he didn’t have many enough world class players around him. Wouldn’t you rather have a world class team led by a star like pulisic?
@AnsonTheJosephOBriennumber1Fan pulisic vs messi has nothing to do w the team surrounding them. i simply said messi was at least twice the player pulisic will ever be. You dont get to choose your teammates...all u can do is do the best you can and messi carries every squad he was ever on other than barcelona during his first few seasons...and he still managed to shine on the best team ever compiled.
As an american, not one american can ever claim to the be next messi until we put forth at least a wayne rooney or Zinedine zadane or henry or someone else considered great. Ffs what a ridiculous concept....we dont have 1 of the top 100 scorers in history but well claim to have the future #1...gtfo.
Well football has only been relevant for about 35 to 40 years all these other countries have been playing for over a hundred years we have some catching up to do yes but stop making it seem like were complete dog shit no one likes self hating soccer snub
News team through around nicknames and titles way too much. No one calls him captain America. Captain America goes to the Captain of the USMNT Captain. But as a Philly union fan Cavan is a lot of fun to watch.
Wayyy too damn much pressure was put on Adu, they called him the savior of USA soccer and had I’m on David Letterman at 14.. didn’t end well he went overseas, eventually back to mls to actually coming off bench in mls think he’s played in USL usa second division recently he’s 34
Idk the exact rule, but basically it’s against the rules for a player to move abroad to play professionally until they’re a certain age. You see it all the time with Brazilian youngsters, they play for their club till 17/18 then they can move abroad
Man City signed him, but he can't go to England to join a club until he is 18. He might go to Europe to join a club on loan between his 16th and 18th birthday if it is determined he has "outgrown the MLS". Regardless he will officially join City when he is 18.
How many times I heard that . just watch hi is going to be good . never and I said never no body will be like messi not even close to Pele neymar Ronaldinho
Everything that lad does works incredible against youth players pros won’t have a bar of that shit. Kid is never gonna be 1/15th of Messi. Just watching what Messi did in LA Masia is better than 99.9% of pros. This kid might go pro that’s it.
@@hez859 nah mate not “British” 😂 I’ll let the ratio of these so called wonder kids speak for its self 99.9% don’t do nothing. Kids Lamine yamal are the ones ye need to watch, don’t go noticed and boom there tearing up pro’s at ages 16-19 years old. The gap from beating youth players to pros is about 1 million miles in difference.
Baby Football League? MSL is not even close to as old as the European Leagues and it is still 12th on the list of top leagues. US has dominated in the most wide array of sports in the world and Football is next on the list. If you know anything about the history of the sport in the US then you would know why the development came to a halt in the 1930's. Even then the US placed third in the 1930 World Cup.
@@ntimeproductions your national team shows zero improvements. The national team reflects the state of the league first of all. Where are your Top Talents? One every 10years? Where are your strikers who score double digit goals in European top leagues? You have a long way to go, like I said, you are still in Baby shoes. Maybe you should check out which teams weren't there at the WC 1930. No European top team was there. None. Because the World Cup was in Baby shoes
@@0ompaLoompa LOL, it took France until 1998 to win their first World Cup. And they were in the first World Cup in 1930. Also, I told you to know your history before commenting. After the 1930 World Cup all the teams and leagues were disbanded due to the Great Depression at the time. The sport lost its popularity and no development was made in the sport for decades. It is only now that MLS has youth academies to truely develop players. And saying that leagues equals best players and national teams is simply not true. South America leagues are not even ranked higher than MLS. And I know you will say that is because their players play in Europe. That is true but they have to be developed first and be good enough in their respective countries. You can be disrespectful all you want but I have always seen the best way to shut up a trash talker is by winning. That day in both MLS and the US World Cup team is coming.
@@ntimeproductions south American leagues were at one point competitive with Europe. You should know that if you would know the history. Stop trying to educate me. I know football for 36 years. And wrote a paper about it. Winning? You can start arguing AFTER you won something.
The first thing he needs to do is get the hell out of the US program and go to Europe, so he learns the proper way to play. If he is going to play for the Philadelphia Union, and the MLS, he will never progress. If he is that good, he would already be starting at the Philadelphia Union. Messi went to Barcelona at the age of 13 and played for their under-14 team and progressed through their system until he was 17 and made his competitive debut. Barca has one of the best systems in football for producing young talent (La Masia). Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Busquets, and yes even Pep!). There are others in Europe as well. It will teach him the culture and toughen him up. Stating he is the "Next Lionel Messi" is not only ridiculous it is only setting him up to fail. They said the same thing about Ansu Fati and now he is an afterthought at Brighton. They're doing the same thing with Lamine Yamal, and that is not going to help him. Yes, Daz you are correct about Freddy Adu and he tanked in Europe. He was hyped as the next "Pele" and he fizzled out once he got to Europe. This kid looks like a tool anyway. Messi was never like that.
that’s just not true, alphonso davies was fully developed in the mls system. And if you actually read the contract you’d know that the plan was to have him play for union until he turns 16 and then loan him out to belgium for 2 years before finally bringing him to city to play for the first team
Yea I think the days of saying you HAVE to develop in Europe are dying. It’s like what they use to tell young European basketball players that they have to go to America in high school in college but in reality plenty of European NBA stars were brought up in euro clubs despite those clubs not having the talent or coaches America has.
@@hez859 Canada was lucky to make it to the semis. They are not a good team. Let's get real. This fever dream that the MLS is a legit quality league, is silly.
Always the next Messi, Jordan, Ali, Lemieux/Gretzky, Jim Brown/Barry Sanders. Let him be the first Cavan Sullivan. One thing I noticed as a non-soccer/football follower--this kid needs to spend time in the weight room. I'm sure they'll get to that.
Ehhh you need to be strong but not weight lifter strong for soccer. I’m no expert but I think you need good leg strength, contact balance, and endurance and you’ll be golden.
