Our main attraction, the famous Porterhouse steak, is a massive cut known for its tenderness and rich flavor. At Delmonico's, this steak is prepared with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring a perfect balance of texture and taste. We couldn't wait to see if this iconic steak lived up to its legendary status.
Founded in 1837 by the Delmonico brothers, this esteemed restaurant began as a small shop selling classically prepared pastries, fine coffee, chocolate, bonbons, wines, and Havana cigars. Delmonico's quickly grew in popularity, leading the brothers to purchase a triangular plot at the intersection of Beaver, William, and South William Streets. This location became the first fine dining restaurant in the United States.
Comparing Delmonico's to Our Previous Steak Adventures, www.theorigina...
Having tried various types of steaks, including country-style BBQ and massive Tomahawk steaks, we were eager to compare Delmonico's Porterhouse to our past experiences. Would this iconic steak live up to the hype, especially given its premium price?
Delmonico's introduced an unheard-of luxury at the time - private dining rooms for exclusive entertaining and a massive private wine cellar in the basement, holding 1,000 bottles of the world's finest wines. Under the culinary direction of Chef Alessandro Fellippini, the restaurant developed its identity with the house special, Delmonico Steak. This prime cut of beef, prepared to the original specifications, remains a staple on their menu today.

The thinner longer side of the steak is the NY strip, the smaller more round side of the steak is the fillet. And she is right, the NY strip side has more flavor, while the fillet side is more tender. I still like the boneless ribeye the best.

And it comes on one of those metal hot plates, so it stays hot while you eat it. it comes with 2 sides, and it is so good you do not even need any steak sauce with it, I just put a little salt on it and it is really good, especially for that price. I picked up a bottle of HP sauce last year. I was shocked at its versatility. I just assumed it was the British version of A1, before finding out A1 is just as British as HP. HP pairs well with many dishes besides steak. If HP marketed it here as a condiment, much like ketchup or mustard I think it would do well. We Americans love our sauces after all.

I've eaten at numerous steakhouses including Delmonicos. IMO, the best steak in New York, perhaps the country, can be eaten at Peter Luger's, either at their Brooklyn location or the one in Great Neck in Long Island. It's not cheap, but it's worth every penny. You can tell because you regularly see the owners of other steakhouses eating there! Order the Steak for 2 (it's a Porterhouse), medium rare, don't forget the potatoes and the creamed spinach. You can thank-me later. Oh, if you like Shrimp Cocktail, order that for the appetizer.

The people suggesting texas roadhouse are crazy, its a mediocre chain. NYC is just famously expensive and delmonicos has weight to its name so its even more extreme. If you want value delicious steak, go to a brazilian steakhouse, almost every major city in the US has a 5 star brazilian steakhouse like fogo de chao or chama guacha and it will not be more than 40-50 a person for unlimited steak of every type. If you go at lunch time it will be even cheaper. The ribeye cap (picanha) is my personal favorite.

If memory serves me correctly, Delmonico's Steak in NYC is our oldest steakhouse in the USA. It has an outstanding reputation. It was Delmonico's that also became famous for the "Delmonico" cut of steak, which we call now call a ribeye. Years ago, I believe there was some sort of trademark argument over the use of other restaurants, butchers or supermarkets selling a cut of steak called a "Delmonico," hence what we have come to now know as a ribeye steak. I have relatives in the midwest that still call a ribeye steak a Delmonico though. Your Porterhouse looked delicious! I have commented on a number of your videos about the high prices you have paid at various places, and if you remember me at all from one video to the next, you probably have the impression I'm either a pauper or a miser. But wow, the better part of $300 for a simple steak dinner for two? Everything did look absolutely excellent, just delicious, I will say. And I'm aware that Delmonico's is a well established, very highly regarded name in the business, and one must expect to pay for that kind of cachet. But ... that's paying pretty dearly. I have to resign myself to accepting that there some places I'm not going to experience. That said, though, I am genuinely glad you're experiencing them, and letting us share.

They use black garlic which is an aged version of white garlic. It's sweeter and milder than fresh garlic. The aging process makes it softer and a bit chewy and it's usually used in it's raw state since it gets more tough when you saute or roast it. It's preferred by some because it doesn't have that typical sharp garlic "bite". ☺

So, the original Delmonico's was opened in 1827, and basically was the originator of American fine dining and also created a restaurant empire at the time with several locations available. The original family just closed all the restaurants in 1923, so 96 years' operating. It was then reopened by an Italian immigrant in 1926 at its current location (and the new restaurants they've added since of course) and has now been running for 98 years. Pretty good run I'd say. And you can't beat an incredibly well prepared steak, I don't care how vegan or vegetarian you are lol

The editing in your videos is astounding!! It feels professionally produced. Makes your videos even more exquisite to watch lol.. Someone sure knows what they are doing. ♥♥ I love A1 on my steaks but I think I'd have trouble adding anything to this steak for fear of interfering with the natural flavor of the beef. My 29 year old (single businesswoman) daughter loves to take me and my wife to Seattle's finest restaurants. We've spent nearly twice this amount on dinner for 3 (no cocktails) Its easy to do here and I consider it payback for all of the expensive meals we took her out for when we used to let her choose the restaurants as a kid. Back then, not only did she manage to choose the most expensive restaurants to celebrate her birthdays, graduations etc but she used to choose the ones furthest away from our home so we'd end up driving to the most distant parts of the county. Secretly, I hated the driving more than paying those obscene prices for meals. Sometimes we'd let her invite a friend or two.+$$$+ Grateful for our son was always satisfied with going to Applebee's on his birthday. Kids!! ♥ Nicola looked gorgeous and Andrew as handsome as always. ♥ We love you guys. Mila and Rich in Seattle. ♥

You are correct that the tenderloin has less flavor compared to other cuts-fat conveys flavor, and the strip steak has more of it. Fat also insulates, so it's not unusual for the fillet to cook slightly faster. The fries are served as if you are expected to eat them with your fingers. If they were meant to be eaten with a fork they would have been served on a plate.

Wagyu for $250.00? Oof that's pricey! The Porterhouse for 2 looked like the best thing on the menu. Leave it to Delmonico's to make imported salmon look inexpensive. Holy Ned $38.00 for mushroom risotto. I'm sitting her dying for one of your pommes frites - they just look like they were cooked in beef fat. The best French fries I've ever had like that were in Puerto Vallarta and we pigged out on them from room service every night. They had house made catsup that was to die for. Still, I think that Delmonico's can keep theirs at $15.00. You're paying for the name! Thanks for another fabulous video! Well, I guess, check it off your bucket list. Now are you going to find the best Chinese food in New York? They have the most amazing dumplings at Pacificana.

But you gotta take some time in the next couple of days, next couple of weeks to do some testing with your microphones for proper mic placement and mic gains. During your beginning and ending segments of the videos, listening to you talk is painful because the recorded sound is distorted and muffled when your speaking volume is elevated or pointed directly at each other’s microphones. I have eaten there a number of times . The food is very good . They also have an excellent wine list which I noticed that you did not partake of . It is quite pricey because they get a lot of Wall Street types for whom price doesn't matter. Because they were a wine customer of the company at which I worked, I ate there to sort of show the flag and let them know that we support our customers by buying from them also , I was on the company expense account , so the price wasn't a concern for me and I had to buy a bottle of one of our wines with the meal .
