Brittany is right!!! Don’t care if they are family. Toxic is toxic. My niece is no longer in my life due to her being a narcissist. She has screwed me over so many times, I don’t have to give her the opportunity to do it again. My life is not hers to tell. And she is a bully and I HATE bullies. I cut her off.

The toxicity thing is really heavy in my moms side of the family. My parents divorced when I was 6 and my mom moved 1000 miles. So I grew up thinking it was normal for a parent to leave. Every year till I was 21 my brother and I drove up for the summer and Christmas to visit my mom but she never came to see us. After being married my wife opened my eyes to see how toxic and one sided that relationship was with my mom and her side of the family. It’s been 2 years since we fully separated ourselves from that toxic side of my family and we couldn’t be happier. I feel like a lot of people live by the whole blood relative thing where they feel like they have to keep people in their lives just because their blood family. You don’t choose your family but you can choose who you include in your life and around also your children’s lives. I feel like there could be a part 2 to this podcast and maybe bring more awareness to toxic relationships. It’s weird seeing I’m not the only one who has gone through this. Thank you guys for all you do, I’ve watched y’all since I was in high school almost a decade ago. You two make a difference
@star08094
@star08094 Год назад
Thanks for sharing a little bit of your story. I can't say I can connect with all of it, but I can definitely relate to some aspects. My parents divorced I believe when I was 2 (I'm 19 now, haven't really ever asked them about it because it's all I've known, so I don't really care. Prob will later in the future), and I've lived with my mom and my brother. My dad ended up moving from Boston, where I've been my whole life, to Arkansas for a handful of years and then to Texas. However, he was always apart of my life, whether it was frequent phone calls to check in, fly to Boston, or fly me and my brother down to see him. My parents did a really good job of being respectful adults and not letting whatever differences came up between them affect us. However, growing up it was very hard for my mom. She would have really difficult times and it was usually because she felt like she wasn't being the best mom for us and that she was parenting wrong, which is extremely far from the truth. Sometimes I reflect on my life and think how it's lowkey sad that I feel absolutely nothing wrong having grown up with no father figure, but I absolutely wouldn't change any of it. If anything, it's forced me to grow up quicker and I feel like at 19, I know so much more about myself than others my age, simply because I had to figure things out on my own as a boy/man. Hearing that you had to deal with a very toxic situation honestly breaks my heart, and really makes me appreciate how my parents handled their divorce. Now that I'm older, my relationship with my dad is a lot closer. I've always been a mama's boy, I guess for obvious reasons, but I was very protective of my mom. When I was younger, I almost convinced myself that my dad was a bad person and the fact that he "left" when I was 2 was something that I always had in the back of my mind. But now that I'm older, I've grown to realize that whatever happened between them had nothing to do with their love for us, their children. It's unfortunate that not everyone can have this with divorced parents, and I really admire your decision to cut that side out of your life. Although that is your mother, you're right, it's not right to allow people like that to be apart of your life when they don't reciprocate the same love and respect that you are willing to give them. That takes so much courage to do and I really commend you for being able to do that. I feel like people with divorced parents tend to be embarrassed about it, but with so many people having divorced parents, I think it's important to share your experiences, so people really know that they're not alone. Again, thanks for sharing.

I’m 44 and I started seeing a therapist about a decade ago. I really can’t express how helpful it has been. Often our spouse or friends think they’re helping when we express the trauma in our childhoods by saying it’s not that bad, this was still good, you’re family loves you etc. When really what we need is just to be seen and heard. Your feelings are valid. Im sorry thinking back to your childhood can be painful, thank you for sharing I know it can be hard to open up ♥️

My daughter was born in 2020. I was in labor in the hospital, 2 normal heathy births before her. Her heart rate was dipping during my contractions and then they lost it. They rushed me back and had her delivered by c section in under 6 minutes. She came out with a tight knot in her cord, and she was basically dead. They did CPR on her for 25 minutes before they got her heart beating. She was in the NICU for 17 days. She’s a healthy almost 2 year old now, and she’s a miracle. I’m so thankful that your sweet boy came out healthy. We are blessed! ❤

Speaking of families, I can relate to Britney in some way. Growing up I didn't have a mum, well, a mum who would spend their time raising her kids. It was my Dad (who isn't actually my biological Dad, since my biological one left when I was a baby), who raised me and my other sibling's. He was the one who took us to school, cooked and cleaned around the house, while all my mum ever did was sit her ass down in front of a computer screen, smoke weed and treat me and my younger sister as second, because in her eyes, my older sister and brother were her "favourite children." And since we weren't the wealthiest family growing up, me and my younger sister rarely got new things, or was given hand downs by our older siblings when we needed clothes, shoes, etc. So, growing up I grew less and less attached to my mum, because after all these years, she still act's the same way. Whereas my Dad, who's divorced/moved on from her, still gives me and my siblings the time of day.

i applaud brit for sharing her story and i totally relate. i am diagnosed with ptsd and have adhd both of which impact my memory a lot, so i know there was good happy times but the only things that stick out to me are the traumatic bad times. i’ve always technically lived with my grandma but my mom would move me and her out with her boyfriends who all ended up being drunks or into drügs or abusive and that was very traumatic at a young age. i always ended up back with my grandma, my mom as well, until my mom was arrested on drüg charges and we began a court case when i was 13 to give my grandma custody, and my mom was officially kicked out. i’m happy and safe now, technically have always been, but live with ptsd and strong anxiety which could very well be a forever thing. i hope brit is doing okay and has healed a little bit from the past but i myself can totally recommend therapy and i hope should she ever need it she would know it’s always okay to do therapy for whatever reason no matter who you are, and that goes for everyone. love the podcast and hope you guys continue to inspire people ❤

Agreed about the home birth. ❤ I did the same for my first 6 months ago! It was perfect. I literally feel so sad for women who have traumatic births and don’t get to experience it this way.

One of the hardest things I had to do is learn not to worry. If you worry you suffer twice. As a famous space cowboy bounty hunter said. "Whatever happens, happens".

It’s kind of shocking to hear about Brittney’s woes and her self doubt and almost fear about negative comments she reads etc. I guess I forget Roman and Brittney are two different people with their unique background and it’s not all smiling more, we all have our own thing going on. Love you

Thank you for sharing your stories, Britt! You're such a warrior 💙 My 1st was breech so I knew she would be a c-section but my 2nd was supposed to be a VBAC but 40 hours after my water broke, including having Pitocin, he never dropped and I never got past 1 cm so he ended up being an emergency c section. Birth is such an amazing thing, no matter how they get here!
