That's oddly specific. I don't think statistics back up women who suffer from this. Prenup isn't legal in india, so the women will take half of wealth, and In the near future when it does becomes legal, women definitely would have a lot more opportunities seeing how well women empowerment is working in India.

I also have a different opinion on this, if anyone is claiming that women are equal to men, and we are in an economy where there are no barriers to them getting jobs, then the concept of alimony should not exist. Whatever financial arrangement the couple had when they were together was their business, and it should remain their business when the relationship is over, the state should not get involved. In case of separation, you own what you own, whatever is legally your property should remain your property. Every adult is responsible for themselves, you simply cannot demand people provide for you, when you are no longer with them. A man cannot demand that the woman he was married to, continue doing whatever she was doing for him as a wife ,until he finds a replacement. I don't see why women should be able to demand, that their ex-husbands should still be responsible for their financial needs. And child support should be capped at a suitable ammount, regardless of how much the man earns. The present legal system makes men pay for the choices of women, you cannot demand equality and preferential treatment at the same time. The contract of marriage should not be a contract of indentured labor for men.
