This episode really confirms that ben is an introvert... as hes seems more extrovert next to cristine. But talking about how matt should be less adventurous really made that side show lol
I could listen to Matt talk all day. He is extremely intelligent and well versed. I wish I could have a conversation with him because I feel like we could bounce off of each others thoughts a lot.
It’s very presumptuous of you to think that you can match his intellect. Maybe you are more intellectual or intelligent than him or less. But to say you can bounce off thoughts is very presumptuous of you.
I'd like to offer some anecdotal evidence for Ben's parenting theory; my dad told me for years not to become a lawyer because he thought it was boring, and now I am in my last year of law school.
Wait a second here. I feel the need to defend Edmonton as I have lived here since I was 6. ( born in Grande Prairie ) We actually have a thriving arts scene and many international events and tours include us as a stop. The river valley downtown is the largest natural area of urban parkland anywhere in Canada. West Edmonton Mall is still a huge draw as one of the larger shopping centres in the world. I also appreciate how many community leagues we have here and the generosity of other locals in donating to various charities as well as our local foodbank. There is also a wonderful diversity of cultures. We are sometimes know as festival city and have a wide variety year round. I could go on. 😊
As someone who is about to finish a PhD in ag/environmenal chemistry, I would like to note that the issue with opportunity cost is not true for all fields. I have acquired a ton of experience and have advanced myself in my field throughout my PhD. On resumes Im actually allowed to write that I have 5 years of experience, because at least in my field, every year in your PhD counts as work experience. Ive made contributions to my field, have made connections in industry, government and academia. That being said, I also love research (although I don't intend on staying in academia) and am here purely because its so cool I get to do research and get a degree and get paid. I cant imagine doing anything else. But just saying, I am benefiting professionally from this.
I really wish I heard someone talk this openly about moving out and starting uni when I was going through that change. I started uni four years ago in a city "only" two hours from my home. To save time on commuting, I found a room for rent in that city, and all that change plus added stress situations my peers didn't have to deal with made me spiral into a severe depressive episode. Because I was the only child in our family to go to uni and had no older friends who've been through this to talk to, I felt so alone and isolated. Just hearing Matt say "it does get better, I promise" kind of warmed my heart. On another note, the vast majority of people I met at uni either switched their majors (some within the first week, some after a year.) It is SO common for people in their late teens/early twenties to still be unsure about their path in life. My boyfriend absolutely hated uni and the program he chose, so he quit after one semester. He felt like a disappointment for not going to uni, but now he works at a coffee shop/roastery and he's happier than ever. If someone in their teens who's anxious about the future is reading right now, lemme tell you - life has a strange way of figuring itself out, it's a lot of ups and downs but with time you'll understand that you're exactly where you need to be as long as you don't give up. Okay, enough of my sentimental ramble, Matt's so cool, can't wait for the episode where all four of these people sit down together, it's gonna be epic, I'm sure.
I love how Ben started railing on Matt for the “pedestrian nature of wonders of the world” and he just straight ignored him 😂lmao. This has such sibling energy
24:50 thank you so much guys! I spent most of my day crying about this kinda stuff so hearing this just as I'm about to go to bed makes me feel a bit better :)
Thank you for the words of encouragement, Ben & Matt!! No advice is good advice as well, hahahaha. Also, it was a lovely surprise to hear Beyn pronounce my name the way I do (spanish pronunciation)
Out of Cristine, Ben, Jen and Matt. Matt is the person I would talk to for hours. I LOVE traveling! I can also confirm that the best part of my trips to Japan were the bars!!
On the part about travelling with Madam Simply I would reccomend Athen for Spring if you want to eat good food with a lot of sun and heat for spring , and any island that isnt instagram famous for the summer. The prices on Santorini and Mykonos are bankrupcy level for most greeks haha.
As an Australian, the big brown snakes are the one thing I'm actually scared of... we don't usually get scared of snakes unless they are brown snakes...
In the US you can be a research assistant or teaching assistant while getting a PhD (or masters). In fact universities depend on students doing that. However, the pay is about the level of working at McDonalds.
OMG, you both need to get a super nintendo and get those classic games. SNES is so amazing. I still have one and play, usually Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, Final Fantasy II (aka IV) and III (aka VI) .. etc!
I really enjoy you guys! Keep visiting Matt. Maybe y’all could take a couples vacation. Keith and Becky of the Try Guys just took a trip to Greece and it was gorgeous.
Ben please I beg of you, I'm from Greece, don't go to Santorini!!! At least don't only go there, we have so many beautiful islands that aren't so touristy that you would love! If you ever decide to come to Greece, please consult with someone local to guide you. Really good podcast, very delightful.
The toilet flushing in the other sense in another hemisphere is apparently fake... the coriolis effect does not apply to such a little quantity of water, so the water is only influenced by the mechanism of the toilet
OMG, "It's not too late to be a doctor" is my nickname with my parents. Lol. And I AM a doctor. A psychologist! And the strict parents with dating? Wait, was I raised with these guys?!
I relate to what Matt is saying at 41:55. I too had drawing and artistic sense beat out of me because my art teacher kept on accusing me of having my parents help me on art projects. I was literally in second grade!
I always love the sibling podcasts because of that sibling energy but when Ben and Matt are together, I get a bigger smile and laugh so much. I don’t know what it is about them but they made my morning as I sit in my cubicle typing away 😂 *I wrote too soon because omg I am dying at the “what’s the story behind hitting each other too hard”. Baby Ben trying to take out Matt with a shovel 😂
When Ben interacts with his brother, he asks if what he is saying is ok. Goes into little brother mode, and I think it's soooo cute. I'm a big sister and makes me want to hug him. Its so sweet.
Weighing in on the "girl drama". Yeah if you're hanging out with girls and there is "always drama" its literally just because you're hanging out with dramatic people. I grew up with mostly girl friends, no drama. My sister had mostly girl friends, always drama. My brothers had mostly boy friends one had drama one didnt. If you notice you're friends are always starting stuff or getting involved in petty fights, consider what that says about you and why you're hanging around them. If you think its annoying that theres always petty fighting in your inner circle find a new circle. Like? whatever you're bonding over with dramatic or petty people, is probably dramatic and petty.
Exactly! I remember not getting involved in stupid drama a lot because i just avoided those girls. Unfortunately i was friends with a toxic girl, who was only friends with immature and dramatic girls, for a while. That's the only time i got involved with any sort of "drama". Then i found a better friend group and i haven't experienced any drama. The most "drama" we've had is when we un-invited a guy to hang out with us and he threatened one of us with "you do know that i know where you live". (Tbh i dont feel very bad for him because he's questionable and i felt so uncomfortable and unsafe around him. Idk why he even got invited in the first place). So yeah. Gotta find the right people to befriend.
This is going to sound like a complete attention grab. But. I’m sitting, listening to this podcast, from MONA and I’m kind of amazed. My dad owns MONA (eg he is David Walsh). I’m a 17 year old from Tassie who’s father is this really weird guy who owns a museum and made his money gambling, it’s very weird to me that he exists as some sort of ‘celebrity’ outside of Tasmania, let alone in bloody Canada. By the way the man you referred to’s name is Tim, he sits completely still all day long every day for half the year. And we’ve never had an exhibition on nail polish.
@@mattmazowita1757 I’m not generally included in curatorial decisions but I’ll see what I can do. For Cristine’s benefit though, my dad regards cats as far better company than humans.
Oh! YES!! A sibling podcast but with the one they’re not related too would be so interesting. Maybe he could talk Cristine into getting on a plane to go somewhere… 👀
Most Greek islands have a ton of cats, Santorini included. The ones with the most cats are Syros, Amorgos, and basically all the Cycladic islands. Also, we do have a salad named after our country, just saying...
Hawaii is the same way. There's random people and volunteer groups that actually take care of some of the colonies to try to limit the reproduction, disease, and harm they cause to the local wildlife and environment. A common trait is for the cats to have kinks in their tails, my cats kinky tail is like a hook which thankfully doesn't hurt him and is very cute. He's also the greatest ever! He acts like a dog in almost every way except pooping and peeing outside but thankfully his CatGenie is there to deal with that so it's he's even easier than my actual dogs. He loves everyone, every new animal, and loves to travel. He's a Hawaiian street cat living a very pampered life.
I really appreciate the Taylor appreciation especially for 1989 and All Too Well. However I will not accept this lover slander, Ben. You're on thin ice.
Accountant here… as someone who loves my job and has seen many friends graduate to only hate their jobs here is my advice: A degree is only as good as the jobs it can get you; if you don’t like any of the jobs the degree can get you, then the degree is worthless. Also, don’t get a degree for the paycheck… you probably won’t enjoy it and end up doing something else.
As a fellow accountant I totally agree, especially in accounting/auditing you won't succeed in school or in real life job if you don't have passion for it, you can't go around it
I've come to realize those "girl drama" questions as internalized misogyny and it makes me sad. There are many non-dramatic girls and women in the world, just like there are dramatic boys and men in the world.
I agree to a certain extent but it's also been explored in research that women are more likely to engage in psychological warfare and men are more prone to physical aggression in response to conflict.
@@VamLoveAndKisses That’s a good point. But that doen’t negate that being socially or physcially aggressive depends on how the person was socialized. :) Men being prone to physical aggression and women being prone to social aggression could be because men are usually encouraged to be aggressive while women are usually encouraged to be meek (obviously there’s cultural differences and my perspective is limited!). My point is just that it’s not innate. :)
People think these days are way different from the times of misogyny being normal. But it's just another form of gender obsession & refusal to treat individuals like individuals .-.
WHY DID I THINK BEN WAS THE OLDER BROTHER THIS ENTIRE TIME!? I’ve seen every video with the brothers in it and yet I’m just now finding out this information? I call a conspiracy 😮
