This is how all fluent signers do it. When you listen, you make eye contact. Everything is fully comprehensible. I think the comment about "You're not supposed to look at the hands" is really a tip for people who are still learning to sign and to understand other people's signing. When you are a new signer, it takes a lot of practice build up your vocabulary and receptive skills and peripheral vision, but then your brain can just do it. :) I'm fluent, but not a native signer. If someone fingerspells something and I miss it, I might look directly at their hand when they repeat it, but then go back to normal eye contact. Hope that's helpful info. I encourage everybody to learn to sign! :) Edit: This is how *sighted* people do it. Signers who are deafblind or have some kind of visual impairment might direct their gaze differently and or put one or both hands on the signers hands. Or on the signer's wrist, which is called tracking, so the signer's hand doesn't go past the listener's field of vision. In the US, there's also a dialect of ASL called Pro-tactile ASL, which makes much more use of touch to convey information.

idk if uk this but when ppl sign they tend to look in their eyes for eye contact..and also when looking into their eyes u can also see there hands as well loll. having eye to eye contact is very important in ASL

No she was deaf from birth so she have no way of knowing how letters and words sound in order to speak them herself, i dont know much but I'm pretty sure she cant look at letter and hear in her head what they say in the same way we can

She’s not mute, she can speak but I don’t believe she went through much speech therapy. I’m pretty sure she did much younger since she went to a mainstream school but over the years she’s 41 now I don’t believe her mind would remember much. But she does mouth the words when she signs.

She said in an interview that she was raised using both sign language and speaking but around age 16 she decided to stop using her voice.

I know ASL and arguments are with upset facial look features and hand sign movements are more of a stab sign movements and the signs are faster than a smooth sign if they are fine.
