Grateful For Your Support: sandibachom.com/ Broadway artists representing all Broadway Shows, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Josh Groban, Sara Bareilles and a hundred more as they sing Sondheim's 'Sunday' from 'Sunday In The Park With George'
What an incredible tribute in the form of the combined voice of Broadway. So many powerhouse singers coming together all with the goal of remembering one man. Geez, he’s gonna be missed :,)
The powerhouses together with the newbies because Broadway egos are so very different from Hollywood film egos. True artists. Teammates. Remember the night they all came out when Natasha Richardson died?
Sondheim's shuffle off this mortal coil has the same impact as the deaths of Fred Astaire (1987) and Frank Sinatra (1998). I guess we will move on but something won't be the same, in the air, water, or words we search for to describe the crosscurrents of our lives. Anyone should be happy to have lived in the Sondheim century. I know I am.
I remember Ted Koppel devoting that night's episode of Nightline to Astaire's passing. He seemed to be a big fan, and obviously moved. And it turns out the episode is on RU-vid. Cool.
When I first saw "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" - I was mesmerized by the "dot" painting they showed during their trip to the museum. I ran to the nearest bookstore to look it up. I could not believe someone could create such beauty from mere dots. Then I was able to see Seurat's creation come to life in the musical "Sunday in the Park with George" - my ALL TIME favorite Sondheim creation, and performance by Bernadette Peters - the princess of Broadway. There is NOTHING like live theater..... something human kind should be very proud of.....
For anything New York may do wrong, they make up for it one hundred fold by things like this. Such respect, style, and dignity worthy of Mr. Sondheim, but only a fraction of his talent given to us, now in full in Heaven.
I have seen so many clips of this memorial everywhere today. It really speaks how great of a person you were, when the world stops a little to remember how you've touched every individual life.
I love that Lin Miranda has such a big heart... he is so clearly and visibly moved by this tribute to a giant man who pioneered the way for his career.
Just amazing how quickly they can come together and perform that so well…I’m sure most of them if not all have performed a Sondheim song or whole show on their journey to Broadway. I know some like Lin were lucky to call him a mentor. Prob my favorite Broadway composer/lyricist of all time ♥️
It's this song that ends the first act of Sunday in the Park with George. The final touches are put on the painting. Partly painted figures and scenery and partly live elements (characters who appear in the show). The artist moves the live characters to the exact right spot giving them an item or taking one away until everything and everyone is in the right place. As the song ends and a scrim (you can see through it when the scene behind is lit) descends, the lighting is perfected and the audience sees the completed masterpiece as the last two notes are played by the orchestra. It is magnificent and one of the most uplifting experiences in Broadway history. Stephen Sondheim will always live through his music, the lyrics and the new productions that will continue to move generations to come. Sondheim forever!
I love that Erin Davie (from the amazing show DIANA) is in the center, also, great to see Julia Murney (Baby!) and Heidi Blickenstaff (Jagged Little Pill) there! Broadway royalty celebrating the legendary Sondheim!
A very nice way to honor a late genius who brought more musical and lyrical sophistication to Broadway than any other composer. Rest in peace, Stephen.
Never fails to give me chills. For me this is the most beautiful thing he ever wrote. I saw it live with the original cast on Broadway and the end of act 1 was the most stunning and beautiful theatrical moment I'd ever seen before or since. I am weeping as I write this.
We will miss you Stephen. You are so important to theatre. Your work is beloved. -Seeing how impactful your work is to millions of people. Seeing Lin and Anni how emotional that was makes me want to cry. -You can't be replaced but we can use your genius as a gauge for improving our own lives.
Thank you, Mr. Sondheim for getting NYC'rs back, STANDING, shoulder-to-shoulder, maskless, faces radiant and emotion full to once again celebrate humanity … the humanity you so gloriously penned and put to music for all to feel and experience ~ R.I.P. BRAVO
These wonderful men and women are in great historical company. When the towering musical genius Giuseppe Verdi died in Milan in 1901 -- a national god in Italy -- hundreds and hundreds of Milanese men and women gathered in the city center on their own initiative, and spontaneously began to sing the chorus of exiled Jews from Verdi's first great opera "Nabucco", "Va, pensiero, sur ali dorate" ("Go, thought, on golden wings"): the commission that had brought him back to musical composition, when he was about to completely give up music in despair sixty years earlier, following the death of his beloved wife. When a great artist can bring his devotees into the street, to honor his memory in song, he is definitely among the Immortals. Rest in peace, beloved Steve. As Carlotta Campion sings in "Follies": you're still here.
The harmonies in this song always brings tears. I did a concert production of this a few years ago and was even able to meet Stephen and I thanked him for writing this show
Extraordinary song beautifully performed. Sondheim has been a part of my life, since I first saw the greatest musical ever: Gypsy. Thank you for posting this, and thank you Mr. Sondheim for this beautiful song and for: Send in the Clowns , rest now, thank you for your music. Goodnight Genius.
Singing Stephen Sondheim's music is beautiful, sometimes painfully difficult, and one of my favorite things to do. His shows are what made me fall in love with the theatre.
Fitting tribute to someone who brought joy to performers & audiences alike. l can still recall all the emotions & goosebumps l felt when l saw A Little Night Music with Dame Judi Dench over Forty years ago London’s West End. Thank You Stephen Sondheim For All The Music.
This is probably one of the shortest, yet most beautiful ballads ever written for the Broadway stage, by one of the most prolific artists stage & screen have ever known…… …..STEPHEN SONDHEIM! My heart is truly broken over his passing. And of the vast catalog of pieces he has let’s behind to treasure, no more fitting number could have been chosen in tribute, memory & honor of one of musical theatre’s greatest writers of all time! God speed, Stephen Sondheim. You are most definitely loved, and will be greatly missed! And, …..George has finished the hat!
Sunday, by the blue, purple, yellow, red water On the green, purple, yellow, red grass Let us pass through our perfect park Pausing on a Sunday By the cool, blue, triangular water On the soft, green, elliptical grass As we pass through arrangements of shadows Towards the verticals of trees, forever By the blue, purple, yellow, red water On the green, orange, violet mass of the grass In our perfect park, made of flecks of light And dark and parasols People strolling through the trees Of a small suburban park On an island in the river On an ordinary Sunday Sunday, Sunday, Sunday
I was devastated by the loss of this brilliant artist. Stephen Sondheim has been an inspiration to me and countless others. This certainly was a hard pill to swallow, but may this creative genius forever rip and never be forgotten.
Mr. Sondheim, you took a masterpiece, and brought it to life in front of us. in doing so, you made your own masterpiece. We sing our sundays and hope you can hear them all the way up there. we'll miss you, your songs, and your magic.
Class act all the way, and a beautiful tribute to the genius of this man. RIP Mr. Sondheim, we will never forget you. You will live on through your work. I’ve been watching old clips all day! Thanks for posting this.
What a wonderful tribute.... boy was he so so so so loved. I hope he is resting sweetly in the arms of the Lord knowing that he left a legacy for generations and generations to enjoy. ❤️👏👏🙏🏾🙂🙏🏾
