I want this entire show on tape, I saw it twice live because it was so incredible. They outdid themselves. It was the best performance I have ever seen
Just saw it today in DC and my jaw was to the floor so much that it was hurting and I was literally FREEZING from having goosebumps half the show. Also lots of glitter and I freaking loved it
I get excited just listening to these interviews!! This show reaches way down into your very being and brings out raw emotions you never knew were there. Can't wait to see it again.
I did a production of this years ago. The music is phenomenal and its so powerful. You lose yourself every night in your character and and the production. Love this show.
Seen this production in London twice in Regents Park and also in an indoor theatre (The Barbican). Seen many productions JCS on stage 1973 when I was a kid. This is an amazing production and i think the best.
I have loved this show from the beginning. I have seen the original cast several times. We are going to see this new production tomorrow. Looking at the clips of this version I am not sure if I am keen to the re-imagining of the show. I know I will love the music. It never gets old. I really hope I am not disappointed in the new production. Sometimes things are best in the original form. I can't imagine Fiddler on the Roof re-imagined in this vane. Hopefully it won't be as bad as the TV version with John Legend. He was the worst Jesus of all.
It seems like its totally fucked up like any remake of the fucking new era of "artists" managed to show us...no matter if we are talking movies, shows or musicals...
OK here is my follow up from my last comment. Saw the new version last night at the Eccles Theater in Salt Lake City, Ut. The overall production was well done. I was pleasantly surprised. The choreography was excellent. I did have a problem with Jesus (man bun, really?) and his awkward use of the guitar as a prop. He was constantly picking it and putting it down like he didn't know what to do with it. Also, that fact that he played it during Gethsemane was distracting. He lost all emotion and context of the song. He sang to the audience not to his Father. It just became another song. One of the most powerful songs became a space filler. His facial expressions and body language was adolescent and projected confusing emotions. I never got the feeling he was the "Son of God". I am guessing the intent was to show him as a mere man, I get that, however, I didn't see the charisma that attracted people to him. The use of the mics was also distracting. Except for their use with Annas and Caiaphas et al. It was clever how the mic stands were the scepters too. I felt there needed to be more interaction between the characters and less with the audience. Again, we lose context with the story. Harrod was a fresh new look into that character. Well cast. Judas was excellent too. Mary had a great voice but was lost in the production.
