Part 1 of a Drama based on the life of Peter Brock I don't own this video. It's uploaded under the Fair Use Act for educational/entertainment purposes only. My channel is NOT monetised.
Sure there were historical inaccuracies and other embellishments, but this is one of the most underrated Australian dramas ever. For anyone who grew up in these times, it's magic.
I saw Harry’s little shop in Auburn . No room to swing a cat. He had really come to the end of his time . The paint jobs on the LH’s in 74 were an afterthought. When John Shephard took control all that changed,.
As a Holden die hard, brock may have been a great driver but if thats how he really was in life, he was a poor excuse for a man. His wives weren't much better either. No great hero.
This was actually told from his brother Phil's persepective, and he was always pissed off with Peter for taking his ride in the winning car. It's a bit slanted.
So they used the car as it is today, as his son restored it, big deal. They made this on a very low budget and you should overlook crap like that and be glad that they made it.
Only funny thing I've ever noticed in these that irritated me was when Bev and Peter were in that room at the party, and he's pretending to drive her around the track, and he says 'up to fifth', despite that point in time being 10 or so years before they got 5 speeds.
error in the ig presentation of Brock to the media. The finger-food girls had aprons with the HDT logo emplaned on the front - only the logo didn't exist until after the Toranas emerged
Typical: again a car movie with incorrect car bits and facts, endless shifting through the million-gear gearbox, while driving a 25km/h race. Is it really that difficult to hire at least one person with a bit of automotove knowledge a track for a day and some drivers who are not afraid to drive a bit faster than a bicycle?
I hate to break it to you, but it's true. Running out of fuel hurt 'em really bad, but Brock suffered 2 punctures late in the '73 enduro & those 2 flat tyres killed 'em dead. The Bond car ran SUs & got better economy. The Brock car was quicker on Webers, but chewed through the juice, hence the unexpected running out of fuel. Harry & Ian should have been a tad better prepared. They're both undisputed legends, but they made a miscalculation. The car was a winner. Brock & Chivas had the race sown up. It would have drasticly altered history if a 202 Torana had gone on to win 2 years in a row. It's also concievable that Brock could have won again in '74 if he'd stayed in an LJ with another 12 months of refinement. But Holden were flogging new LHs by October '74 & the HDT had to use the new "product". Imagine the uproar if 202 LJs had won 3 years in a row. That would have shown the Clevo powered Falcons up as fat, dumb barges. It wasn't to be. By 1972 it was obvious that Valiant had little hope of winning a major race in Australia. The fact that 6 cylinder Toranas regularly outran the best 351GTHO Falcons & GT Hardtops at circuits all over the country for several years makes them truly legendary. If you ever hear some ape raving on about how "great" a GTHO Falcon is supposed to be, just remind 'em that a pint sized 6 cylinder Torana beat all the best Ford backed GTHOs in the country at Bathurst in '72 and watch 'em cry their eyes out! It just goes to show... a good little car in good hands can trounce a big dumb turd in a fair fight. History also records that Dick Johnson stayed with his exHDT LJ in '74 & '75. Johnson was the QLD Guru of hot6 Holdens. He regularly blew the doors off L34s & GT Hardtops with his criminally fast LJ at Lakeside until he started driving for Brian Byrt. Johnson had no budget, but still managed to run LJs at Bathurst with little luck. Had Harry been a little more kind to Johnson, we could have had him in with Brock in '73 and '74. And that would also have drasticly altered history, because Johnson didn't just drive Toranas, he built them himself & he built absolute rocket ships. If I remember correctly, he won the QLD Touring car championship 5 years in a row in Toranas he built or rebuilt himself. A hell of a lot was achieved with Holden's teensy 6cyinder Toranas. If a few more planets had aligned back then, especially if Bob Morris & Allan Grice had been a tad more fortunate, LJs would easily have won every bloody race in this country from '72 clear through until the end of '75. Luckily for Ford fans, it didn't turn out that way & they can still harp on about their precious GTs & HOs. I'll take the XU1 over any Ford product any day.
Geez. A Torana LC XU-1 with 160bHp and 1700Ftlb or torque would be unbeatable...............sorry I meant undrivable. Face Palm moment right there and I'm pretty sure they weren't 771Kg in race weight either.

Mike Raymond is a legend of Motorsport commentary, sure modern commentary has more footage and more features such as the tech garage but Mike was the voice of Australian Motorsport during its heyday when racing was racing not an expensive parade of sponsors decals.
First of all there was never such a thing as a 73 GT HO LOL. The last HO was the Phase 3 in '71. The car you see in the '69 A30 footage is an XY which was 69/70...
Why not delete it. What garbage. They should have been quartered for making that series. So inaccurate it should be treated like a grain of salt. There were some good dramas the last few years yet this was not.
@H HOUR HOTEL That was never proven plus Peter's first wife was known to make up bs. Both Bev and Julie have come out and said that while he did have affairs, he never lifted a finger to them
