If humans could go through metamorphosis I believe Brockhampton would surely be near the final stages of being as beautiful as they can be, yet this is still so early into their careers so for all i know they're still crawlers and what wowed me here is but an ample sample of what's to come in the years. Absolutely loved this album and I can see this easily being in people's best albums of the year, if not the best. Let's see how this grows with even MORE listens. Brockhampton cray yo. Huge love to my homie too who helped me out here, mad love. Sandy be on holiday still : )

Jungle Beats aspires to be Australia’s plug to the best most prolific/unique hiphop artists in the world. @AlexanderMann & @AlexSandalis host Australia's biggest and weirdest music review channels. Jungle Beats is about creatively sharing our love for music/hiphop with energy, positivity and passion. We started this in 2015 with a weekly hiphop show on a radio station in Melbourne, Australia. In August 2016 we decided to create Jungle Beats Media. To us, Australia doesn't have a strong hiphop identity within culture. Who do you think of when you think hiphop in Australia? Most think of people OUTSIDE of this country. Maybe we can change that in some small way and push it forward. JBM is side hustle of ours, so it’s not going to be perfect. It’s gonna be haphazard, crazy, and we’re gonna mess up. But that’s music, and we love it.

I don't necessarily like every single song on this album, but I appreciate the variety. Frankly, I didn't want another saturation. They needed to evolve and this may be a half step in that direction, but I can hear that they are growing. It's not perfect, but it's human. I'm on board for it.

This is their best album. My hopes weren't super high since i was a little bit let down by sat 3 but this shit is amazing. I'm very glad they experimented more instead of giving into the pressure of being more pop since a lot of their new fans came for that sound.

Disagree. The lack of structure and pitched vocals on here are more annoying then usual. The flow of it was weird, and if you make an album in 10 days you better be doing the best of your abilities.
@4r1777
@4r1777 5 лет назад
I think the manipulated vocals really work on here, although i do agree that the flow of songs in the first half of the album was a bit odd. The unorthodox structure of the songs in my opinion improved them and were executed in a way that didn't leave me wanting more.
@4r1777

it was solid, but i think the "brockhampton flow" really made a lot of the songs hard to listen to compared to Sat 1, or 2

I totally agree with your conclusions. Saturation-era Brockhampton was easier to like but Iridescence is their best amd most ambitious project so far. I encourage everyone to give this album multiple listens even if it didn't hook you in on your first. There's so much to appreciate especially when it comes to the production that there's no way to get all of it right away. Btw, an interesting detail, I don't know if you guys listen to Radiohead but the beat in TAPE is a clear nod to Radiohead's "Videotape". Adds to the whole UK vibe of this album.

McKenna Andersen brockhampton has been succesful with structure and have made way more memorable music then this album. Nothing here feels surprising and feels like a lot of ideas thrown together and misses a lot of it. Either that or they are sounding too similar. The production is ok which is surprising for them. Guess this what happens when you record in 10 WHOLE DAYS. That really constricts a lot of ideas or changes that need to be made. Idk, maybe I just have bad ears. Im definitely not hearing album of the year.

Hey Alex! I've talked to you in the past about how I make my own music, though you may not remember. Well, you said that this album would inspire a new wave of artists. YOU WERE RIGHT. This album has showed me that there are no limits to your potential no matter where you come from. THERE ARE NO LIMITS TO MUSIC! Listen to the instrumentals on this album. Beyond compare. Incredibly intricate, incredibly VARIED, incredibly FLUID!!! It's making me look at my work differently. I'm still wrestling with giving this album my top spot this year (this was a FANTASTIC year for music, I mean, KIDS SEE GHOSTS, TA1300, ugh), but this is 100% one of my favourite albums of all time.

There are two distinct sounds on the album, hard electronic bass’y mechanical sounding music, and softer orchestral and piano focused music. These tracks almost perfectly alternate throughout the track list, stating hard with New Orleans then going soft with thug life and continuing almost perfectly to the end of the album. This could be where iridescence comes in, where you can see the different colours / feelings / styles being represented in the music. This could also tie into the two different countries they recorded in. I’m still looking into what this could represent but I haven’t heard anyone talk about this.

This was a good album, but this is definately the first time that they didn't outdo themselves or wow me as much as they usually do. But definately amazes me on the second half. Don't get me wrong it's great but it isn't Saturation quality to me. Maybe it's a grower idk but I'm definately loving it and bumping it. Especially NEW ORLEANS, DISTRICT HONEY, and J'OUVERT Would've loved it a lot of the singles made the cut but they were scrapped along with a whole album, and replaced with what we got on iridescence. And since you guys said your favorite members I'm just gonna go ahead and say I'm a Matt Champion man. Also fun fact Beyoncé is on HONEY which is great!!! 😁

Same-- I think there are a couple tracks on the first parts of the album that derail the momentum slightly, but once we hit WEIGHT it's pretty much smooth sailing through the rest of the album. Probably a grower, like Blonde by Frank Ocean. The sound is less accessible than their previous work (there are fewer melodies on this project, the beats are more industrial/mechanical/abrasive) so it takes a few listens to adjust from a track like HOTTIE or BLEACH to a track like J'OUVERT or BERLIN. I'm just glad the boys are showing so much range. Also, the Beyonce part is a sample, still an amazing moment though.

It definitely is, I don't see it as experimental or game changing for them as everyone else is making it out to be, but a refinement of what they have done so far. It's like A Late Registration or Graduation for them. I do love it but I wanna wait before I make any bold claims and bump it for a week before just saying it's the greatest thing since the age of sound.

This album was near perfect. I don’t really like SOMETHING ABOUT HIM (Frank ocean knockoff), WHERE THE CASH AT, and VIVID. But overall the rest of the tracks were so well produced and had great meaning. To this day I freeze at some of the tracks such as TONYA, WEIGHT, and TAPE. Not a fan of this album, but the direction they are going in is admirable and needs improvements. These songs have zero structure and don’t feel worthwhile in the grand scheme. Tonya, Tape, J’Ouvert, and Weight are the only ones that I enjoy. Outside of that it’s really scatterbrained and messy. It makes sense considering they recorded a portion of it in 10 days. people need to understand that not every "ambitious" album is good. not every "experimental" album is good. just because they did something different it doesn't mean they did something that can be considered "good". it's certainly not a horrible album but it is not a good one either; the first 3 to 4 tracks were horrible and among the worst songs they ever made. you cannot call an album with 15 tracks, a brilliant album because you like about half the tracks. don't even try to compare this to any of the saturation albums where you would barely not like 2 tracks on each album. they tried something new and it failed. start recognizing that.

brother this album is worse than any saturation album in every aspect. the slow melodic songs on here are way worse than the ones that were on the trilogy. they even fuck some hooks up on this album which was something i thought i would never see brockhampton doing. joba only sounds good in one track, in the rest he's trying to sound crazy but it's coming off as him trying wayyy too hard. the production is still good but nowhere near saturation level that's for sure. bearface's parts are completely unnecessary, you could literally take him off of a track and the track would stay the same; something that did not happen in saturation. their use of auto-tune was definitely experimented with but it sounded horrible. etc. etc. etc. there's a ton of shit that's wrong with this album. i'd be here for an hour telling u everything. the only good thing about this album for me was seeing how much better matt champion has gotten.

I'll be honest. I've been a fan of Brockhampton since Saturation 1. This is their worst record, bar none. I was waiting for the good instrumentals that blend with hard-cutting lyrics, but I got neither. I REALLY was hoping they'd go in the style of BLEACH, but they decided to keep their edge even though Ameer is gone. It doesn't feel right. Plus the instrumentals are UGLIER. I'm immensely disappointed but I hope this album does well. I love the project and I want them to evolve into a more soulful group.
