I always get so anxious when I see restoration videos that don't test for lead paint-- super appreciate you showing the test almost every time! Lets me breathe a huge sigh of relief, especially when you show the proper removal and disposal steps you employ!

I don't think you get enough credit for your sound engineering. We go from faint and subtle taps and scrapes, to circular saws and hammering, and the volume level is always just perfect. Thank you! Maybe you could give Hollywood some tips. lol.

I've gone down restoration rabbit holes before, however many creators seem to be faking the majority of their restorations, and some are just smearing with clay or adding surface rust by spraying steel projects with salt water.. I have watched about a half dozen of your videos.. I can tell from some of the instances that you took time to machine brass replacement parts to simply add contrast and your refinnishing of wooden handles that you are most certainly the real deal.. This has earned you my only restoration channel subscription.

@stask85
@stask85 3 года назад
You can use epoxy to reszore cracks and holes. Sometimes you can even "glue" the wood with epoxy, when its broken. But this pieces were totaly destroyed by age and worms. As you see the wood is absolutely soft and more like a dry sponge, so even when you cover it up in epoxy in the end you will be able to break it like a dry cookie
@CoolAgainRestoration
@CoolAgainRestoration 3 года назад
True Renegade. many people said that when I restored the coffee grinder and i changed the wood. I thought to do this now but if I do it with epoxy,then the wood will be crackable very easy.

@@stask85 Well, stabilizing it is more than just covering the wood in 2-part epoxy. It would require a vacuum chamber to remove any air and proper stabilizing epoxy, not the normal 2-part. Done right, it would ensure that what's left is basically a slab of epoxy with with the "wood" doing nothing more than being decorative. It shouldn't crack or crumble once stabilized, but it's a lot of work for very little gain, and using new wood is just better. I just think it would look neat.

"Acetone and Automatic Transmission Fluid" color me intrigued. I've never seen this tactic before, and I watch alot of restoration vids. And seeing how it worked, it was just as good as the expensive ass DETCO-45 we usually use Edit- Those letters and numbers you found are probably just serials and parts labels for the manufacturers Edit 2- 9:02 is that why people are calling you an amateur? I mean it is a "rookie" thing to do but I appreciate you attempting to save at least a little bit of the original parts. As a (non condescendingly as I can be) bit of a tip, precision elements like screw threads and barrel riflings are very vulnerable to rust pitting and usually are unsalvageable, so, expect that more often than not.

I watched Sorted use one of these yesterday. Now that I've seen you restore this one, theirs was noticeably dull. I'm so glad I got to see this restoration to show what one of these really can do and how beautiful it should look.

A guillotine bread cutter... Indeed, the the most French thing I've ever heard of ... and the fact it's made in Germany only makes it more amazing!

When I went to automotive engineering school, our gasoline engine professor told us about the acetone and ATF mix. It's an amazing concoction and now we keep a bottle of it in the shop. If you pre-mix it and store it, shake well before using because it will separate and I recommend using a spray bottle (like a Windex bottle) for larger area applications (26mm bolts, etc). But yeah...here's a thumbs up from a master mechanic. 👍

I was a diesel mechanic, worked on everything from Cat bulldozer to hospital backup generators. Became disabled from "hereditary neurological complications." Basically, they don't know why but my nerves are slowly failing. So I'm retired now...at least that's how I see it. Just doin the occasional oil change on family vehicles and odd projects every now and again.

Very well done! Even works with softer bread as they should. Excellent choice for the wood replacement. The grain really stands out. I've never heard of that type of bread. I'm from the U.S. sounds absolutely appealing. Now you went and made me hungry. Definitely will watch for more of your content. Thank you.
