Ok, can somebody explain to an outsider what the deal is with these guys? They seem like kind of the Tenth Planet of drum corps. They're new? They don't do conventional stuff? Help me with some context:)
Personally, I think it's their fresh sound and how they came out of nowhere that contributes to their hype. Their loose approach to drumming similar to BK and the direction of Rodger Carter is a masterful combination. Honestly, I think it's a welcome and refreshing take on the activity.
A bunch of Bluecoats and Blue Knights dudes get together in the winter and get taught by Mike Jackson and Roger Carter. Basically super soldiers of the drum world.
Taking the MCU mantra, if civil war were to happen, it would be Bluecoats on one side and Blue Knights on the other. But being United, it’s glorious. They are the Avengers.
Also, how many World Class Corps Drumline section leaders gone through this program over the years? This line alone has 3 or 4 of them. I’m thinking of Kyle, Zach, and Jared. Thoughts?
alex boyajian I haven’t been to a finals lot in over ten years... but I have been to hundreds. I was an instructor for years. I get they hype. Just hype in weird places. Like 8 note exercises and such.
