I'm at a loss for the practical use case of this pen. You essentially have to uncap it twice. It is like having a lamy cc or pilot vanishing point that also has a screw on cap.

Well yeah, but those two have integrated nib caps. This one sort of acts like a Montblanc Boheme, minus the need to screw the cap on the end.

Considering the price of the pen, it should work. Retractable nib pens have been around for decades. Lamy and Stipula come to mind. These pens do seal the nib. The cap on this pen does this sealing? Not sure. Fascinating pen. Fairly heavy, too. It sounds like a pass for me. Thanks for taking one for the team

Your detriments are my preferred features. I like a lot of turns for securing the cap. I had a pen that had less than two turns and it worked off in my pocket and ink bleed all over my pocket and the outside of my pants. The clip being strong is also a good feature to me.

I think it's a very nice looking pen. If it worked perfectly out of the box, I would suggest that it would make a fantastic EDC pen. The retractable nib would help ensure the protection of the nib, the four turns to remove the cap, and the piston fill would all serve to make it perfect as an EDC. Then, there's the beauty of the writing experience with that lovely little 10kt gold nib. I hope you are going to attempt repairs and show us what you were able to do to hopefully make this pen work properly. I would have a hard time writing with this pen for any length of time because of its weight, but for a quick note, or a secret message, it would be great. In my opinion, if you purchase a pen,and you can't write with it, then the pen does not work. Ugh! Great review as always! I love all the detail in your video content! Lisa

I bought this a few years ago on Aliexpress and like you, I love the nib. Because of the gold, it has slight flex which makes a really great interesting smooth nib. I have ever had any problems filling it like you have. It comes in gun metal, black and the brushed steel. I saw a RU-vid video from Hong Kong where they disassembled the pen. They did not show how they disassembled it though. Capacity is small as it contains a hidden standard size convertor inside the barrel. So they kind of cheated on the build and really limits the ink capacity. I actually have two, as one accidentally rolled off a table and it broke the plastic feed. Unfortunately, because it's a small size nib, I have not found a replacement for it yet.
@jacobus57
@jacobus57 4 месяца назад
The flex is NOT because of the gold, especially at (allegedly) 10k. What does the FP community need to do to put a stake in the heart of this persistent erroneous notion?!?

The wife bought me a Mont Blanc for my "promotion" which works onn a similar princip,e. Take of the cap, rotate, cartradige inserted at the top and walla.....ñip dries quiickly, the turn out mechanism packed up, they could not repair it, I got it working to an extend and basicaly it is still useless. I had 5x MB's - gave one to my brother who doesnt use it(fibre tip that dries out faster than a racing car), puppy nibbled one, lost and the rest packed up. The one lost was a mechancil pencil - the top where the pencils leads are inserted kept on coming loose and fall off - had to apy foreach replacement. Met a client whomused the fibre tip & he told me he has connections at the MB francise in the country - he got the stuff at 10% of shop,price. My conclusion is ultimately the ariting experience is in the nib and that is what I go for now. Amazing how the most expensive pens were the most disappointing.

Did you mention that this is a clone of MB Heritage 1912 ? I have it (and also Majohn X1 which is a clone of MB Boheme, another capped retractable pen).. I got it 2-3 years ago and I guess the issue you mentioned is quite generic - sometimes it fails to draw ink and more often than not it draws very little ink. Anyway, I like this pen and its nib. Hm, Aliexpress markets it as a new pen, but I see in other comments it's been around for a few years. €94 here, which is probably mostly the nib, but still, for good money it should be a good pen. Just checked the two links you provided. Where you bought it, it's 20 dollars cheaper than the other, but I've no experience with 'Pen Store', I mostly stick with 365 Stationery. The new A1 is still on its way from there.

There are reviews of this pen going back to 2018 on FPN. I don't have any Heros from back then but I do have a lot of Wing Sungs which is the same company. The piston fillers could be iffy. They often felt like things weren't meshing properly. A bit of silicone grease helped but in reality, it was usually a poor design. We're getting spoiled these days. It's rare to get something that doesn't work. Back then, it was pretty common to have to fix something that you just bought.
@Gregwisconsin
@Gregwisconsin 4 месяца назад
Two questions. 1. If only filled partly, what happens when you invert (nib up) expel air and twist piston knob again? And again? 2. About the two oval-shaped indentions aren’t they for engaging the knob when twisted to expel the nib? Thank you for the review, mysterious design indeed.
@karismadelacruz9172
@karismadelacruz9172 4 месяца назад
Hello, I'm not sure if I can help I bought the exact same one on Ali express although it looks exactly like the monblonc original model. Idk how it works but one thing you wanna check first when you have the knob ready for filling check if it spins freely it should have a stopping point if not that means the filling mechanism is out from it's original spot. You can pop off the back but it takes a bit(there is some glue holding it) it still clicks back on, than just go on ahead a push the mechanism back in after pulling off the cap than your good. I only know because I wanted to take mine apart. I hope this helps or if possible we could talk more through the comments

Pretty sure this is the cheapest gold nib pen. If you are mechanically inclined, or just a tinkerer this might be a good pen. Also if the nib can be transferred to another pen, $68.00 seems reasonable for a gold nib on it's own.

Originally, the problem was that ink was drying rather quickly on the nib back then. Retracting the nib back into the ink reservoir prevented this. Since ink got better over time, no need for that anymore.

Hi DB! Too bad that one won't load ink properly! I like the color of the pen, but the mechanism is a little strange. Rather than have that big, honkin' cap with the useless clip on it, why not have a little short cap that just threads over then end? From what you show you can't post the thing anyway, and it might do away with the multi turn threads. Will be interesting to see what the guts look like!

The only, very minor, advantage I can see to the retracting nib is to allow the pen to be shorter, but considering how short the piston throw must be (because of the space needed to retract the nib), you could get the same advantage by making the barrel shorter, keep the nib static, and make the cap correspondingly longer. That would also be simpler construction as well. So I vote pointless gimmick.

What is the point of cap plus retraction? Did they want to make an retracting pen like the Dialog 3 and than did not get the seal door working, so thay needed to fall back to a cap? This does not make much sense to me. Also, this rod in the cap is an awful solution. I would assume if you forget about it you might damage nib or feed. And this dancing around accepting an isue shows the still awful attitude and bad customer service that still exisits with many sellers that operate from China. Expect that they do whatever they can get away with to keep as much of the money, but without an interest to actually fix the problem. This is unfortunately still the expected behavior on Aliexpress or similar platforms.
