the where? not sure what your question is , if the drain valve breaks off the tank will drain out - If you replace with 3/4" pvc pipe and cap - you can use the cap to drain the tank when needed. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Better yet. Use a vacuum and a drill and drill to npt tap drill size. Then and a threaded connection for a brass valve Lube the valve with silicone lubricate before installing. Do not overtighten the valve to prevent further damage to the plastic. One more option is to not drain the tank. And then replace with a tank with a brass valve.
Got lucky. My plastic valve opens without issue. There's lots of way to skin a cat. Best to have many options. Yours are good. Thanks for posting solutions to common problems. When people do that we don't have to go in blind on common everyday issues like these.@@thewaterheaterfactory
@@keithbrown1915 : yeah, it doesn’t happen to everyone of those plastic drain valves but since about 2016 a large majority of them probably a manufacturing defect causes them to leak where they’re screwed in at the tank maybe heat pressure hard to say but you can’t see the water and then it just shows up in your combustion chamber and running down the front. Lotta people think their water heaters are leaking from the inside and it’s actually that connection from the outside at the drain valve. Thanks for watching. I’ve got about 250 videos on my channel. Lots of service calls.👍
I did mine yesterday, 7 year old gas Reehm never been drained. Manufacturer should be flushed every year to avoid problems. Noticed no hot water 2 weeks ago during cold snap pilot won't stay lit. Landlord sends his employee to look see. He sees the drip and grabs to tighten and it blows off in hand. So home warrantee sends plumber who looks at and leaves 10 days later claim is denied. Plastic drain valve #1 failure on water heaters. What was left in that port is not gray pvc plastic hits like this white concrete where it should have been gray plastic. It dissolves. That plastic. I didn't see any utube video that showed hard of a job it can be, editing. I used my small dremil tool small round stone. 1/4 thick attached inside port. I slowly moved around inside pipe port slow opening up the I.d. til I could see the thread line. 3/4 bottom hole tapered pipe tap Cleared those threads in 2 minutes.
@@garyfyvie9490 yeah that’s awesome. There’s a lot of different ways to do it. Sometimes I put a torch on it and just melt it and then thread it with a pipe sometimes I’m able to cut it and break out pieces. It just depends on the type of plastic that it is good job sometimes they go quick sometimes they don’t, thanks for watching
Your camera work may possibly be the worst I've ever seen on RU-vid ! But I forgive you - that "heat gun" idea made it all worth watching. I was dumb and used a propane torch myself, yesterday, and I set the insulation on fire ! Scared my wife two floors up when the house fire alarm went off. Wish I'd seen your video first ! Those plastic drain valves are a bugger. The plastic gets hard and brittle. If I ever buy another water heater, I'll replace the plastic drain valve with a brass one right at the onset !
Well its gotten better ! I hope ! Glad it helped you out I think a hair dryer might work to. My early videos were pretty rough. I use a go pro now with a head strap. My early audio was awful , fixed that. I like to think i'm improving ! Check out the other videos if you run into problems , I have lots of tips and tricks , Service call videos , Water Heater installations. I film all my field work and try to make tip videos ! Thanks for the comments and Watching!
No worries I appreciate the constructive criticism, I wish more people would express any issues they have with my videos so I can improve where needed ! Thanks!
